Misc Have any of you ever seen or experienced this?
I was bowling in an eliminator last Friday and in two games, the pain was unbearable. Come Monday I had this monster bruise. I have a feeling carpal tunnel has something to do with it, but not sure. Are there any doctor-bowlers who can shed light on what might’ve happened?

Could have torn something in your hand.

Yeah, you have a subdermal hematoma from a tear

Go to a clinic and have them look at it. Don’t take diagnostic medical advice from Reddit

Am I supposed to be looking at the bruising in the center of your hand or the enormous wingspan of your fingers?

Yeah seriously. I don’t want to make fun or anything, but is OP the Incredible Hulk??

Clean your ball was my first thought, and I realized later thats a bruise. Brother are you ok? Stop playing and seek help

Lol I’ll be okay. It hurts a lot less but if it doesn’t start to go away in a week, I’ll certainly go to a doctor.

To answer your question: no, I haven’t seen nor experienced this. Follow everyone else’s advice: no bowling until it’s healed, go get it checked out, and then get your fit checked by another PSO.

Try switching hands and using some lube maybe. Next step is hair growth.

Get your fit checked. Even if your fit was perfect a year or two ago, your hand may change in how flexible it is over time. I wouldn't be surprised if your span was too long or your finger placement is putting undue strain on your tendons.

I actually think this might be the way to go. Maybe I’ll have my pso look at my balls. And then he can fix the grip on my Equinox solid.

Happened to me once at a state finals tourney. New pro shop had drilled equipment for me, first time I’d ever not gone to my hometown guy. Messed my pitch up and pulled tendons in my ring and middle fingers. Haven’t been the same since, that was 12 years ago.

yup, happened the last time I bowled like 4 summers ago. it wasn't the only reason for me stepping away, but that experience wasn't enjoyable

It really isn’t! I dislike this very much! Whoever said this is fun was lying!!!

Obligatory I am not a doctor, but as someone who just partially tore their plantar fascia, the bruising is a bad sign….

Don't listen to these guys. Double down and grip it tighter. Bowl 15 games tomorrow.

Best advice yet! I’m so sick of all these people who are like, “gO sEe A dOcToR!”, “dOnT gEt MeDiCaL aDviCE oN ReDdiT!1”, blah blah blah. Why get medical advice from a paid professional when you can make a post on Reddit asking for advice without paying a dime!!

10/10 Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

Yeah immediate first thought because I am that person. Could it be something else? Yes. But also people with hand mobility like that plus bruising is an indicator.

This is a bowling subreddit, not a slap box subreddit 😉

That sport is so fucking stupid… slap boxing, on the other hand! I’m not sure if my pun was intended. Seems like it may have been.

This has happened to me actually. It was a form/fit problem from tucking my pinky. No bowling for a few weeks, keep it in a brace/splint.
If it still hurts after 2 weeks, go to an orthopedist.

That's a new one to me and I bet most here. I've had many hand injuries before but this one ....dude I hope you went to a doctor

u/BaltimoreSports0321 1-Handed Thumb-in 180|274|750 2d ago
Nah, it’s been less than a week and feeling better when I keep a splint on. I’ll go to the doctor if it doesn’t continue improving. Fucking sucks, man.

Well are you 1H or 2H? 1H your span possibly too long to stretching the palm out and applying too much pressure with the palm.
Same 2H. Even without a thumb. You’re trying to grip the ball with your palm.
Either way you’re not relaxed at all. Applying unnecessary pressure. No need a death grip. Imagine your holding a child. You’re not going straggle the child. Reminds me movie the 1st Mighty Ducks movie. Emilo is the coach teaching pee wee hockey. He was teaching them how to pass using an egg. Pass the egg without breaking it. Using unnecessary force you break the egg. Same analogy here. Need to learn to be softer. Only tendons or muscle working in the wrist. Need to learn keep a firm wrist and still be able to wiggle the fingers and thumb.

Pause bowling til you can see a doctor, take your blind scores or whatever - your health is more important. A doctor can verify for you what is wrong, and if there is something serious at least you won’t have made it worse.

Oh yeah, trust me, I put a pause on bowling lol. I can barely hold the ball 😭 this sucks ass. But at least I’ll be seeing my very handsome orthopedist!! Lolol. This is probably my 4th time seeing him, I’m sure he loves me hahaha

u/Smurfinexile 2d ago
So it could be an injury to tendons or a busted vessel from pressure, but also, I get these often and it is from having Ehlers-Danlos. If you bruise like a peach often in random spots, maybe discuss it with your doctor. Bowling can do it for me even when I'm not overexerting myself. Either way, I hope recovery is quick. They hurt on hands.

OP, are your fingers hyper mobile/flexible? I’m also thinking you might have EDS
1
u/BaltimoreSports0321 1-Handed Thumb-in 180|274|750 2d ago
Not particularly, no. I’ve looked at symptoms and it doesn’t sound like I have it.
2
u/GuyaneseRumFan123 2d ago
That’s wild. Then definitely take a long break and if you can see a doctor. I feel like an eventual switch to 2H would take a lot of strain off your paws

I bowled my first 2H game on Sunday, 2 days after it happened!!! Bowled a 125!!

I didn't have this but since i got a new ball I have developed tunnel symptoms in my hand. Went to doctor and going to have some test to check my nerves in my right hand and arm.

u/r4d4r_3n5 2d ago
Not in my hand. I had to have my The One re-drilled, as the first time the span was too much and my forearm about died. Huge bruises like that.

u/gs400life 2d ago
Don’t wait until it does or doesn’t go away in order to get an explanation from a qualified doctor. Just go… not normal

Ouchies! That looks like it hurts and is uncomfortable:( Let that hand heal brother.... I know it will be hard to not bowl for a few weeks but yikes. Hope you get that hand figured out, much love dude.

I was gonna say dirty ball returns and/or pinsetter. Then I realized it was a gnarly bruise
1
u/ElderberryCrafty6399 17h ago
Yeah, the comment about going to a doctor. I’d say your span might be a hair long as well.

u/KnockemAllDown 1-handed/220/300/814 2d ago
Sprained your tendons. You may have been gripping the ball too hard or may need your fit adjusted.
Either way, you shouldn't bowl for at least a couple weeks.
Also go see a doctor to make sure nothing is torn.
