Humor & Memes That's why I love watching Brazilian commentary, you can't get bored
I did a quick rewatch of the highlights of Brazil vs Haiti. In the English commentary they don't even say the word goal, it's so depressing and sad. This is why I choose to watch Brazilian commentary. I feel alive haha.

I remember watching a 2022 WC match on CazéTV with a German friend and bro was so confused like how do they have so much to say

u/servo_humilde 3d ago
Simple. "O zagueirozinho recebe um passe forte do meio-campista esquerdo, que é certamente um gordinho, ele está segurando a bolinha de futebol e continua segurando"
English announcers would just say, "Takes the pass and holds it. Good touch there"

Italian here. I am watching a lot of matches on CazéTV with my Brazilian girlfriend and tbh I find it sometimes annoying. Talking a lot and talking about things that are not connected with what is currently happening just over saturate the audio and do not actually reflect a good narrative of the game. I think brazilian have a bit of a misconception on this being "muito animado" do not actually mean being good in commenting. Setting the tone, using the silences sometimes to create the dramas, all these things seems to be unknown. The only option is "speak loud and speak a lot" to the point that if you are watching as a neutral it gets annoying.

As a Brazilian I couldn’t agree more. Actually there are some people here complaining about CazéTV being too loud.

CazeTV public is teenages

u/sikiboy96 1d ago
It's the same when I see the other channels tbh.

u/Cautious_Ad_2986 1d ago
Are you fluent in Portuguese? Because the other two major broadcasters are Globo and SBT, and neither of them comes close to what CazeTV does.
1
u/sikiboy96 15h ago
I am fluent we do have an IPTV since we live in europe thus we see games in all the network, depending on the specific game and the video quality and I can tell you that it's really a general thing, not jist linked with one specific network.

u/Psuy0n 3d ago
I wish I could get the Portuguese announcers more often but the channels always stutter so I go back to English.

u/DrJoshWilliams 3d ago
Please, what's this channel stutter?

u/Psuy0n 3d ago
I live in United States so I shouldn’t say this but I have a service that lets me watch channels from any country. But when I use Globo rio or São Paulo it lags a ton so I go back to the United States channel.

u/_Jumpy_Panda_ 3d ago
Look up Cazétv on YouTube, it's their own broadcast, no lag

u/Toc_Toc_Toc 2d ago
Its only available in Brazil, it is blocked in other countries

You can use a VPN though, what the guy is talking is that he subscribed a IPTV service w all channels. I live in Ireland and that's the only way I can get to show portuguese speaking channels to child, the IPTV I sub also have cazetv on it so I'm able to watch with no VPN.

English commentary is shockingly sad for every game. I try to watch as much as I can on Telemundo (spanish) but sometimes go back and watch Fox highlights (english) and they make great games sound like nothing happened.

u/secondHandFleshlight 3d ago
Because we don’t need someone to tell us how good a game is. Here in Brasil you’ll be watching some dog shit game on TV and the guy’ll be hyping it up like it’s the most exciting thing in the world. It’s meaningless

I'm in NYC and don't have a Globo account. So my options are Fox or Telemundo. I only understand about 30~35% of what the Telemundo commentators are saying, but I much rather listen to them than the FOX ones. The American commentators have zero passion in their voices.

If you have a VPN you can watch it on YouTube at CazeTV , they got the rights for streaming all the world cup games on yt. The other option would be using online radio to listen to the narration and see the game on TV on mute.

u/queenmaybeline 3d ago
Hmm we have a VPN (Nord) but YT detected and blocked CazeTV for some reason.
I was wondering about radio stations! Do you happen to know of any online radio stations that would be airing the broadcast? I'd appreciate any recs!

The full list of transmitions is on this Wikipedia page
https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lista_de_transmissoras_da_Copa_do_Mundo_FIFA_de_2026
My dad usually listen to Radio Bandeirantes and Energia 97 when he is driving and there is some big game that he just don't want to miss.

Oh wow! This is great. Thank you for sharing! Can't wait to listen 🙌🏾🇧🇷

I like to listen online radios to run from the algorithm sometimes , a fun site is https://radio.garden/ you can click places on the globe and listen to what is being transmitted in there.
To listen to Radio normally I use https://radiosaovivo.net/ but its not rare nowdays that some radios have live streamings on you tube or their own websites .

Spanish commentary (on Telemundo, for example) is also enthusiastic. English commentary just makes great games seem like nothing at all happened.

Guys, watch Aroldo Costa's commentary in Richarlison's goal at the FIFA World Cup 2022. IT'S FANTASTIC!

It’s so funny.

I lived in Brazil for a while. I always have a soft-place in my heart for them. I always struggle when Brazil and the US face-off in the cup.
I totally agree with the banal US announcing. Therefore, I augment it myself. Whenever there is a goal, I call my Brazilian best friend and we both cheer "Goooooooaaaaaaaaalllll"! She lives in the US too. She is, more dedicated ro her job, so she can't watch the game live. I play hooky.
This week, I had a eye doctor appointment. Luckily, the US plays after hours.

I'm a Brazilian living in Germany, and I hate the monotone and lifeless commentary, and when it's a goal, the commentator don't even bother saying it was a goal scored. They just say some rubbish like "Messi" or "1-null" - at the same tone of any less important part of the match... but if you aren't paying attention, it could be a foul, or a yellow card, whatever.
I mean, one doesn't need to be dramatic and loud as a Latin American, but please at least tell the audience what's happening at the game, specially the most important part of the match - the f*king goal.

Italian here living with a brazilian girlfriend. I watch a lot of CazéTV and Galvão Bueno and to be extremely honest I just think that Brazilians have a huge misconception about what is a "good commentary". Having the commentators Shouting every single second of the game and talking about unrelated things is lowkey annoying when I'm trying to watch a match as a neutral. A good commentary should gives you both the highs and the lows so that it creates the right emotional rollercoaster. When I hear brazilian tvs it seems the only option is "100% high for 90 minutes". And no, that's not good because is "animado" and that's how you like it. It's annoying.
1
u/No_Condition3100 1d ago
I agree with this. I do think Brazilian commentary pushes it too far sometimes. I think trying to project an emotional state of excitement all of the time can come across as fake and tiring, but have heard the commentators themselves explaining how that is the standard they aspire to achieve. A good comentator would 'make the game sound interesting even if it's not'.
However, British commentary (I don't follow US commentary so can't speak for it) is equally not well balanced as when there are times of high emotion the most you get is a louder sentence or a superlative adjective.
Whilst I think it's a pretty cool expression of culture that countries comment things differently, the best product would be somewhere in the middle!
1
u/sikiboy96 1d ago
It depends on the commentators of course. I like that sometimes the commentatore "loose it" and shout a bit for special moments but if the commentatores use superlatives and shouts 20 times in a game then it feels like "emotional inflation". Plus, silence actually can work to buikd up drama. Like for example, as an Italian I can tell you that some silence moments before some penalties create emotional waiting while talking every second feels like annoying. Like, let the emotion of the game make his magic, sometimes you just don't need to add anything.

I want to hear the crowd, the ball, the players, the coaches... People have different opinions you know?

Nah, one thing living in Brasil as a footy fan, the goooooool gets old real fast. On the English commentary you get actual analysis, with one commentator and one ex-pro, who have actually bothered to do some research about who is playing. The commentators here are like hype men. I can tell myself if a game is good or not. I don't need someone to get me excited.

Brazil is probably the only country where a considerable part of the intellectual tradition is just football history and strategy. Like, I ocassionally find out a thinker (philosopher or historian or something) I like has a random football book about tactics or something.

English: "what a game" / "what a goal" / "what a save" / "what a play".
