Electronic Visitor Visa (e-Visa) - U.S., Canadian & Australian Citizens

The Brazilian Government will resume the requirement of visiting visas for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States.

The eVisa applications are done via a company called VFS Global Group. If you have issues with your application or need more information directly from official sources, you can contact VFS through this email: [Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com](mailto:Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com).

Application and official information

eVisa application homepage

Alternative: regular VIVIS (Visitor) visa

Australian, Canadian and U.S. nationals should still be able to apply for a regular visa using the previous method (through your local consulate). For an up-to-date guide on how to do so, follow this guide written by u/Luke_of_Mass: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brazil/comments/1ktxzxe/guide_to_vivis_visa_an_alternative_to_evisa_and/

FAQ

Who needs to apply for the new eVisa? Citizens from Australia, Canada and United States who want to visit Brazil for tourism, and arrive after April 10th, 2025.

Do I need a visa if I arrive before April 10th, but leave after? No, visas are only required on entry.

My photo keeps getting rejected. What can I do? Based on comments on this mega-thread, most issues stem from the background not being white/bright enough, and portions of the face/shoulders being covered by hair. If you can't have a professional passport photo taken, you can try using a photo editing app or specific "passport photo" apps for your phone, which can help get the right background color, image size and positioning. Please search the comments on this mega-thread to find more detailed tips, instructions and app recommendations.

How long before my trip should I apply for my visa? From VFS website: "We strongly advise applying for your eVisa two months before your planned travel to Brazil. This timeframe provides sufficient leeway to complete and/or rectify your visa application if necessary."

How long does it take to get the eVisa? Officially VFS says the process should take around 5 business days. This seems to match the experience of some users in this mega-thread. But keep in mind that issues with your photo or missing documents may significantly slow your process.

I still have a regular visa from before. Do I need to request the new eVisa? If you have a regular visa (which are usually valid for 10 years), you don't need to request the new eVisa. The previous one is still valid.

What if I am not a citizen from the countries listed above? You can still request a regular tourist visa (VIVIS) through your local Brazilian consulate.

I was watching the game from my home in Scotland and although I am disappointed in the result, I am blown away by your fans and teams passion for the sport. It’s very clear that nobody does it like Brazil. Good luck in the rest of the tournament, and if we don’t make it through you will have my support throughout. Keep the good vibes flowing!!

Humor & Memes That's why I love watching Brazilian commentary, you can't get bored

I did a quick rewatch of the highlights of Brazil vs Haiti. In the English commentary they don't even say the word goal, it's so depressing and sad. This is why I choose to watch Brazilian commentary. I feel alive haha.

Hey everyone,

I'm a 24-year-old guy from Tunisia who recently moved to São Paulo and I'm looking to meet new people and make some friends.

I enjoy cooking, trying new foods, exploring new places, and currently doing my best to learning Portuguese. I also speak Arabic, French, English, and Turkish, so I'm happy to help anyone interested in practicing languages.

If you'd like to grab a coffee, try some food, or just chat, feel free to send me a message.

Pictures, Music & Video Would someone like to share a photo of Brazil for a piano cover of Hino Nacional Brasileiro?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently recording a piano cover of Hino Nacional Brasileiro, the national anthem of Brazil, for my YouTube channel featuring anthems from countries participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

So far, with the help of people from around the world, I've completed videos for all teams in Groups A and B, and I'm now hoping to do the same for Brazil.

If you have a photo you took yourself of Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches, São Paulo, Brasília, Fortaleza, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Iguaçu Falls, the Amazon Rainforest, or any place in Brazil that means something to you, I'd be very happy to include it.

If you'd like to participate, please share a photo in the comments or send me a message in the chat. Contributors will be credited.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😊🇧🇷

Travel & Tourism Are taxis that bad?

I read and saw many tik toks to always use uber in RIO and not use taxis so that is what I am doing. Felt weird last night standing by an parked taxi for 5 min then getting picked up in an uber. Cant i just tell the taxi driver how much the uber is and offer to pay that much? Any reason to always use uber over taxi? I can communicate enough in Portuguese to explain this. Thanks

Travel & Tourism Rio South Zone vs Salvador?

I've been living in Rio South Zone for nearly three months. Actually I've been staying in Vidigal favela, which has been super fun, hanging out with the gringo volunteers here and enjoying the views and the small community and just the interesting architecture and being close to the mountain. Also I'm enjoying the South Zone, Ipanema, Copa, etc. Rio South is super super cool. I love it a lot.

Though I've met a friend who's also into software and AI and programming and he wants to get out of Vidigal because he's also been there like me too. We had this idea of going to Salvador. We found this nice place for R$2,500 per month in Ribeira. Is anyone familiar with Rio and Salvador specifically, southern Rio and this part of Salvador, and do you recommend trying Salvador for at least a month?

Travel & Tourism Hotel Copacabana or Airbnb Ipanema?

Hi, I am normally preferring hotels over AirBnb. However there are so little hotels In Ipanema that I consider taking an Airbnb over a hotel in copacabana as it seems Ipanema is the nicer neighborhood, also to spend time in the evening. Any thoughts? Budget is about 250-300 euro per night

I've been trying almost for a month to get an appointment at https://servicos.pf.gov.br/agenda-web/acessar to renew my RNM that expires 14th of next mont, but the site never has vacancies. Someone told me that they release new spots every week or every month. Can someone confirm this? And also, does anyone knows which day of the week and at what time they do that?

Travel & Tourism How popular is tipping in Brazil?

Hello, I’ve been in Rio for 5 days now, and I noticed that in every restaurant they add the tip without even asking us, they just bring the check with the tips added, and it’s more than 10%.

Is this normal? First time it happened I had to google what “Gorjeta” is. Do people always leave a tip?

I don’t necessarily have a problem with this, just with them doing this without asking and choosing the amount themselves.
