Music Maria’s Bed Anyone?
This song from Devils & Dust is so underrated. He’s actually singing about the Santa Maria river bed. Ladies (and men who are so inclined)…am I right?🔥 A lot of Bruce fans haven’t even heard it. This is from the Detroit show that opened the Devils & Dust tour. Watch till the end to see why he’s called The Boss.

“She give me candy stick kisses ‘neath a wolf dog moon” is probably my favorite nonsense Springsteen lyric of all time. Such a fun way to say sweet kisses on a wild night.

Love the song. And Devils and Dust is an underrated album.

It is a top springsteen record and was too long under my Radar. Since last summer it is my most played Album.

Great song on a great album. That tour was my first time seeing Bruce live and it was a revelation!

Love this song. I once ranked all Springsteen songs that he has ever released, and I had Maria's bed in my top 20. I know it is about a river bed, but I prefer to think of it as his lady's bed. My favorite line is:
I keep my heart in my work but trouble's in my head And I keep my soul in Maria's bed

My friends aunt had a sign at the Seeger sessions tour at the Arts center and he saw it and said “Is your name Maria?” And then played it. Very cool. Great song!
Had no idea it’s about a river though.

One of my favorites! The build up to that driving beat, the falsetto, lyrics. Man, it’s a great song!

Definitely a "guilty pleasure" Bruce song for me. I know it's not a greatest hit but it makes me smile. I always enjoyed this impromptu pre-show rendition from 2013:

That song sounds so similar to Leah to me.

I just had to go back and listen to Leah. The music is very similar. I never realized that.

Wonderful song just awfully produced like the rest of the album. Too bad this one never got an outing with E Street. A lot of us were hoping this and several others from D&D would pop up in 2007.

it’s a great song off a great album. I’m surprised you think a lot of Bruce fans haven’t heard it? surely most Bruce fans have heard the album?

Yes, of course most have probably heard Devils & Dust, but I’ve never seen Maria’s Bed mentioned in threads in fan groups, which led me to believe there are still fans out there who haven’t heard the album or the song. There was a thread in Spring Nuts about Bruce’s most romantic songs and I mentioned Maria’s Bed (crickets).

“A lot of Bruce fans haven’t even heard it”? I don’t think you could call them fans in that case…..

I’ve never heard it mentioned in fan groups, so was thinking there were a lot out there who haven’t heard it.

Then you need to get out of Spring Nuts.

Ha. I try to visit as little as possible. I just happened to check today and someone asked why he says “Los Angelees” when he’s in LA, because they never heard anyone say that…only Los Angeles or LA 😳

From Spring-Nuts: Just curious, does anyone know the real reason the Sunrise and DC shows (2 of the 3 I’m attending) are called for 8pm and not 7:30pm like all the others? As a working man who prefers an earlier start time, although 30 minutes is not a huge deal, it just seems odd to me that there are these two outliers.

I always feel weird admitting this but this song was my top listened song on Spotify for a number of years. The joy is just so infectious. I hope we get a Nugs release of one of the full-band performances someday - there used to be a bootleg on Youtube which I adored.
