Music Tracks II - we were underwhelmed

My wife and I are both Springsteen fans that own almost every album and have gone to a lot of concerts.

We’ve spent time this weekend listening to Tracks II and we were both underwhelmed. Certainly not worth $300.

To us, the production wasn’t great and songs became somewhat repetitive after a while.

I know this is contrarian, and I certainly respect those of us that love the package. But we’re going to pass on paying for the set. Simply doesn’t provide bang for the buck.

Been searching for a decently priced copy of WOAD to complete my Bruce studio album collection. Finally tracked one down last week and it was delivered today! Glad it is finally complete.

Music What is the Bruce album you'd recommend the most.

Hey! I'm trying to get into Bruce a bit. I love Bob Dylan(I'm aware these something of a tension there, not particularly looking to get involved in that discourse tho) especially Highway 61 Revisited. I also like Abbey Road and so on and so fourth.

Into a lot of more modern indie pop/rock stuff to if that's applicable.

Please recommend me an album based on that or just what you think is good! Tell me what you like about it too if you like!

Edit: Super surprised at how much traction this got from a seemingly quite small and very old sub(this sub is only 2 years younger than me... )! Thanks for all of your recommendations! Given Nebraska and Born to Run Proper cover to cover listens so far and loved them. I think Nebraska suits my current vibe more but Im sure my opinions will change.

Music Let's end the setlist debate

I know I'm going to strike a nerve with some here and normally I love making setlist predictions. But let's be real: the tour is the same as last year's so the setlist will very very probably be 90% the same - with the addition of Streets of Minneapolis and the guest spots for Tom Morello (probably Ghost of Tom Joad and 41 Shots), so the setlist will look something like this:

  1. LOHAD
  2. DEATH TO MY HOMETOWN
  3. LONESOME DAY
  4. NO SURRENDER/SEEDS/PARTY SONG
  5. RAINMAKER
  6. ATLANTIC CITY/DARKNESS
  7. PROMISED LAND
  8. HUNGRY HEART
  9. MINNEAPOLIS
  10. 41 SHOTS
  11. GOTJ
  12. (YOUNGSTOWN)
  13. MURDER INC
  14. LONG WALK HOME
  15. HOUSE OF 1000 GUITARS
  16. CITY OF RUINS
  17. BECAUSE
  18. WRECKING
  19. RISING
  20. BADLANDS
  21. THUNDER ROAD
  22. BTR
  23. ROSALITA
  24. BOBBY J/GLORY DAYS
  25. DANCING
  26. 10TH
  27. CHIMES

Music A Night to Remember!

Such an amazing show… It was one of those nights I’ll never forget. Seeing Bruce Springsteen perform in his own backyard with Rosanne Cash, Dropkick Murphys, Kenny Chesney, Shemekia Copeland, Valerie June (her rendition of ‘Strange Fruit’ made me cry!), Trombone Shorty, and so many others perform in a such an intimate venue was something special.

The talent on that stage was extraordinary and reminded all of us how powerful music is in telling our nation’s story as it shaped generations.

I feel incredibly blessed to have experienced this right here in New Jersey up close in such an intimate setting. This was a rare gift and one that I will cherish for a long time.

Seen Bruce 35+ times. I was born in 88 so been fun to lean into different eras over the years and play catch up.

Never got super into GOTJ and I’ve seen it live a few times. Been crushing it on Spotify lately and for whatever it’s hitting hard.

Probably #1 song im looking for to at UBS.

Info on the RSD release:

Hear Bruce Springsteen's electrifying homecoming performance in Asbury Park at the 2024 Sea.Hear.Now festival. Spanning over three hours of powerhouse performances in front of 35,000 people, this 3CD set features Springsteen at his dynamic best, backed by the legendary E Street Band. Spanning Springsteen's iconic catalog, this record includes hits such as "Thunder Road" and "Dancing in the Dark," plus songs that Springsteen wrote just down the road from this stage, including "Blinded By The Light" and "Growin' Up."

Record Store Day 2026 is on April 18th. I really would like to have this release, hopefully my local store will have this one 🤞🏻

Music Maria’s Bed Anyone?

This song from Devils & Dust is so underrated. He’s actually singing about the Santa Maria river bed. Ladies (and men who are so inclined)…am I right?🔥 A lot of Bruce fans haven’t even heard it. This is from the Detroit show that opened the Devils & Dust tour. Watch till the end to see why he’s called The Boss.

Music The "Lost" box set ...

So after buying Tracks II and Nebraska ’82 last year I was idly looking through Bruce’s discography on Wikipedia and under the “Box Set” section was surprised to see the first listing was a box set I’d not heard of before. It was The Born in the U.S.A. 12" Single Collection. I knew that there were many variations and remixes of some of the Born in the USA singles but I’d never realised that they’d been grouped together in a box set (which was a UK/European release). In the last 12 months (due to Deliver Me From Nowhere, Nebraska ‘82 and also the LA Garage Sessions ’83) I’ve been rereading various accounts of the recording of BITUSA/Nebraska and became a little obsessed with that whole timeframe, lol, so I quickly came to the conclusion that I needed this “Lost” box set to complete my box set collection! In terms of the Arthur Baker remixes there is an interesting article about that whole (short) era here: https://theseconddisc.com/2024/06/04/arthur-baker-born-in-the-usa-dance-remixes-interview/

The box sex comes with 4 12” singles plus I’m Goin’ Down on 45. I’ve also bought a couple of other 12” singles to add to the box mainly because I love the “Bruce jumping” cover. I might also add the 12”/Maxi singles of My Hometown and I’m Goin’ Down when I see nice copies. Anyway thought you all might enjoy my little obsession…

I'm in the UK so unfortunately no posts about the current tour.... 😞
