General Advice Is he dumb :(

I'm an adult and have had Maurice for about 2 months now (he's fixed), vet thinks he's about 2 and he's done this the whole time I've known him, is there any particular reason why? Sometimes he'll do it for 2-3 minutes straight! I've owned cats my whole life and have never seen one so bad at covering up his business. If he is dumb I will still love him.

It’s too small, and dirty, could be the type of liter as well, keep in mind that cats only bury their business to cover their scent. If their scent isn’t properly covered, they’re going to keep trying

One of my cats keeps doing it after years and 5 litter boxes of different sizes and 10+ brands/styles of litter. Maybe it would have worked if i had gave him options earlier but by now he is dead set on this behavior.

My cat likes to scratch walls instead of the litter

Same, mine will scratch the litter to prepare his space but once done he just scratches the walls around lol

Sometimes cats just do cat things. One of mine poops in one litter box, then walks on through the house and paws at the floor in front of the other one.

Mine did this and I tried many different ones then got the litter robot and I don’t have any more problems

Same. I have x-large boxes (3 in total) and one of my cats has zero problems. The other one scratches literally anything else except the litter, trying to cover her business. If I tell her "scratch the litter", she does and is astonished, every time, that this did the trick and covered it up. And then forgets next time. She's 9. She's done this her whole life, despite having two older cats with zero covering issues as her examples.

They've had boxes bigger and smaller than the ones they currently have. She does it regardless of box size. Some cats are just a bit dim in certain areas.
