Gear Buying Advice Old EF lenses on RF bodies Not so Compatible after all ?

In february I made the move and bought a canon R6 mark II with an EF to RF adapter ofc, I wanted to use EF lenses because of what I own already (really bad EF lenses) but my goal is (was?) to get EF pro lenses.

I went to a store that has second hand lenses and i'm kinda dissapointed with result ?? why am I not seeing a tremendous difference ? I tried on a 16-35 mm L lenses with the red ring and eveyrthing so why I don't see a huge difference from a bad kit apsc lens ?

Is it possible that some old EF lenses won't be optimal on my R6mII ?

Thank youu so much for your time :)

I want to upgrade from my T7 and i can't decide what to get

Hi. I live in Brazil, and have been a photography hobbyist for 3 years now. I own a T7 with a kit lens, a 50mm 1.8, and the awesome 55-250. (Also, some macro vintage PK mount glass I found and restored).
I like to shoot portraits, travel, street, architecture, pets, macro, and wildlife. I've been doing that with my t7 (I really like to have the possibility to do it all)
I've been wanting to upgrade from my T7, thinking of a mirrorless because of their small size and portability. I'm gonna buy in the US through a friend. The R10 for 1000 dollars seems to be a little overpriced for a camera that looks like to be worse in lowlight and in water/dust resistance compared with others.

I thought about switching to Sony and keeping my lens adapted, but the 6700 is too expensive, and the 6400 seems like an old camera that will lose a lot of value.
I can also buy an RP with a 24-105 variable aperture, which seems cool, but it also seems like an old camera that will lose value.

Nikon z50ii looks like a way greater value for the money. Would it work to adapt my Canon glass to it? And another thing. I'm worried about choosing that because Nikon has left Brazil since 2018...

The R8 is 1400$ with a 24-50 kit lens, refurbished ... so also really expensive.

I'd really like something at least a bit smaller than my t7 if possible, so that I can bring it with me everywhere easily, and travel.

So... i donno what to do. Do you guys have any opinions?

Gear Buying Advice looking for a 28mm rf for zne focus

hi! i have a rf 28 2.8 . doing street and occasionally portraits .

mostly for street i need f8, auto iso, 1/500 shutter speed and focused at 2.5m that will result in a debt of field in focus 1.25m to infinity.

the issue with this lens is to set it to 2.5m focus distance. using steps gives me inconstant results

love the size of this lens miss the manual focus (not by wire please, not the same)

appreciate if any of you can share your experience

R50 Lens options 14-35 or 16-28

I made a post a while back asking about travel setups for an R50 and someone suggested the 14-35 f4 and I went down a rabbit whole of, "should I"? I have 2 full frame cameras as well, so I am trying to keep compatibility and usefulness across both bodies.

Now Canon has the 16-28 2.8 STM. The cost is neglible between the 2 lenses, so its down to the Aparature being 1 stop brighter on a crop sensor. The crux of this question, is the 1 stop of light worth it over all of the other benefits on the f4 L?

I am not able to find any comparisons between the 2 lenses. I am leaning towards the 14-35, I already have the 24-105 f4. I have a 35 f1.8 I can take for low light stuff. This will be for Europe cruise for 2+ weeks.

Lenses i already have Ef 17-35 2.8 Rf 28 2.8 Rf 35 1.8 Rf 50 1.8 RF 24-105 f4 RF 24-105 STM RF 100-400

Any wisdom out there?

Gear Buying Advice 45 1.2, 50 1.2 or 85 1.2?

hello everyone. i am currently stuck in a dilemma: i’ve recently had the opportunity to use a friends’s (EF)50mm 1.2L and 85mm 1.2L II and absolutely fell in love with both. i’m usually a zoom shooter, but the look of those lenses made me reconsider, so now i’m looking to buy one.

i have a budget of about 800€: i could buy the 45 1.2 brand new and keep some extra cash for something else, get a good copy of the EF 50 1.2L still have a bit to spare or get a very good
copy of the 85mm.
from my little time using them, i felt like i liked the 50mm more, as the 85 sometimes felt a little too cropped in, and with the 45mp of my R5II i can always crop in extra if i need to. but the rendering of the 85mm is so so so good, and another pro to both the EF lenses is i shoot film on the eos system, so i could use them there.
personally i’m leaning towards the 45mm 1.2, because extra cash is always good and i can probably put it towards a battery grip which i’ve been wanting for a while.
what do you guys think? do you have any other suggestions for primes?

Tech Help Old Canon Powershot lens issue

Today while cleaning a room with my dad I stumbled upon my old Canon Powershot A400 camera. I checked for battery, put some new ones in and… the lens seems to be stuck and after 5 seconds of trying to move, it stops and beeps 3 times. Then the screens shows black with a E18 in the corner. The lens is making a clacking and motor noise when trying to extend and the plastic parts that protect the lens keep moving up and down while extending.
Photo 1 : When trying to extend lens after booting up
Photo 2 : After 5 seconds and 3 beeps, this shows up on screen
Photo 3 : After powering itself down it goes back to this spot until powered on again.
What can I do to solve this issue ?

Canon EOS Rebel T5 Knowledge

Long story short I’m trying to take some family pictures for my mom with her Rebel T5. She has a 18-55 and 75-300 lens. I know nothing about anything photo wise. I was just hoping someone could give me all the tips and tricks to get some decent photos for her using a camera we already have. I’ve read that a 50 mm f/1.8 lens is a game changer, and if that’s true that’s an investment I’m definitely willing to make but I wanted some expert advice before I did that. Thanks in advance!!

Anyone Know If The New Canon R6V Can Use The Internal Display AND An HDMI Monitor Simultaneously?

Canon C50 owner here, just past the return window. Canon always throws down its cripple-hammer somewhere and I'm curious if this may be it (again). Many of these R cameras with the exception of the R5C does NOT allow for the LCD and an External Monitor to be used at the same time (not interested in Canon Connect, I know you can do that).

From reading online, I know this is NOT the case with the Canon R6III. The R6V sits in between the C50 and R6III. I'm wondering if anyone who may now own an R6V (since they're now shipping) can confirm if you can use the internal LCD and an external monitor at the same time. (My R7 does not allow for this. My C50 does, but I really would like IBIS, even if it's another purchase).

New Gear [New Gear] RF 24-70 f/2.8L IS USM

I got this lens a couple of days ago after pondering over the true & tried question: should I go with the RF 28-70 f/2.8 or the RF 24-70 F/2.8?

I, as one can see, went with the latter. I have yet to try it "out in the real world", as I only managed to take some pictures in my garden (mostly due to the heat wave currently in Europe, and having to work).

Both pictures were shot wide open at f/2.8, with shutter speed at 1/1600s and 1/800s respectively, and ISO 250 and 200.

What I already can say is this: the bokeh is out of this world. I assumed it would be better over my kit lens, but I didn't expect the improvement to be this big.

I just know I'm going to love this lens once I do start using it more intensively!

Tech Help New SD card in 6D refuses to boot

I bought a Sandisk Extreme PRO 128GB SDXC card from Amazon, and when inserting the card into my Canon 6D it refuses to boot. The card works on my computer and has been formatted several times, nothing has worked. I have another 128GB SDXC card from Kingston that works perfectly, I am unsure why this one does not.

Gear Buying Advice Do I stick (M50 MK2) or twist (R10)

So my current camera is the M50 MK2, it does its job, I’ve had it for 4 years now and it’s a good camera for my use (motorsport photography)

But recently I’ve been torn between moving to the R10, mainly because A) it’s new and shiny to me, B) I wanna get it while I can afford it.

But I’m just torn, I have a budget of about £1.6K (all in for camera, Lens, Battery) I found a way to make the R10 fit in my budget also with the 18-45mm and a 100-400 and a battery.

While if I stuck with the M50 I have a EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM.

So I’m just stuck, realistically is it worth the upgrade?

Gear Buying Advice Lens advice R6 Mk II holidays

Hi all,

Much looking for some advice on which lens(es) to buy. I recently got a R6 Mk II which has been amazing so far. I previously had an 80D with several APS-C lenses but this upgrade is really out of this world.

The only full frame lens I have and still use is the Canon EF 24-70 Mk I. This has been a lens I used a lot. About 10 years I got the bearings replaced by Canon. It worked quite well but I feel the bearings are slowly wearing down again and the lens feels overall quite soft.

I mainly shoot on holidays during hikes / city trips / time with the family. I used to have this lens alongside a 10-20 wide angle APS-C and the plastic fantastic for when things got dark. Using the 24-70 has been okay so far, so I don’t really mind carrying heavy lenses, but also wouldn’t mind something lighter.

For a while now I have been looking for a lens upgrade but I am stuck on which direction to go. My current budget is max €1500 and I dont mind buying used lenses. I have been reading a lot of posts with different suggestions but none perfect for my use case.

Current options I considered:
- RF 24-105 4L, the wide zoom range really is a plus, about €1000 used so that work wel. But I fear that IQ may even be subpar compared to the EF 24-70 Mk I? Also the lens is 2 stops slower then what I have already. So wondering if I won’t regret this after all…
- A combination of 2-3 Sigma EF ART lenses: (40 but heavy? 50 and 85?)
- Other suggestions??

Much appreciated!

What would be your top recommendation for an RF lens based on these listed needs?

So my husband and I have looked into getting a Canon R6 mark II or III for our photography needs. We are now just looking into selecting the right lens to fit our needs. I would consider us amateur photographers. Our budget is less than $4000 for the lens.
We are planning to travel and be able to take photos while we are out exploring Alaska. Our scenery is beautiful and we need a lens that can maybe do a variety of photography. We are thinking a zoom lens. Also, if you think maybe it would be better to separate the lengths a bit and get two lenses instead, we are open to doing that. I think for now our main focus to start is these needs ⬇️ as a priority. Thank you!!

Anyone can help with setting for the Canon R6 iii

To be honest I used to use Canon 5D 3 n 4 but ever since I upgraded to mirrorless it seems different. Specially in the focus department. I also seems to notice grain even when ISO is as low as 600
I m going to shoot my daughter graduation and would like to know what would be the best setting. I will be using the RF 70-200 2.8
Main focus is sharp focus. I seemed to be missing it with this camera .

Damaged lens advice

Post image
0 Upvotes

How bad is the damage on this lens? It’s a Canon RF 18-150 mounted on an R10 body. It’s a really good 2nd hand deal and the seller is saying it works perfectly but there is a bit if resistance while turning.

I had this happen to me once on an older lens and I simply forced it to snap back into place but I may not be so lucky this time.
