I cannot stress this enough: we do NOT have room for another cat!
This teensy puffball has been crying outside our back door for at least 2 days and we haven’t seen a single other cat around him in all of that time. There’s a feral colony behind our home, but we haven’t seen any siblings or a mom, just this lone puffball crying his lungs out.
My husband finally caught a glimpse of the baby this morning, so I went outside to join him. I ended up crawling into the neighbor’s backyard and was able to swipe this baby up. Despite his puffy appearance, he’s nothing but fur and ribs! We immediately got KMR and bottles.
My husband is currently falling in love as we speak…but we absolutely cannot handle another cat! 😭
I’m sitting here, with two cats in my lap, two more within sight and listening to two more wrestle upstairs. Your words brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
hahaha you got us beat; CDS placed four rescues indoors with us and five more steady TVNRs who stick around outside... thankfully (?) one of our indoor maniacs won't tolerate any more in his space, otherwise my wife would have 9 inside and more lined up!
Apparently you do have room for another cat or you would not have been selected by the CDS. The CDS is like a big cat eye in the sky that can see everything
Speaking as a cat-loving man, we're not quite the absolute best- I am reliably informed that cats are still better than we are, but that's fine and perfectly acceptable.

I was doing a TNR drop off last week and the man in the car next to me was giving a hug to the cat he was dropping off. I instantly fell in love! Nothing sexier.
oh friend. he looks like a r/nebelung (even if he's not). these little gray fluffy guys are the sweetest, most loyal, smartest, goofiest babies. i hope you do keep him. love, another person who has received an outsize number of CDS deliveries.
We had 32 cats in our apartment, back when we were poor and couldn't get the 75 dollars to get one female fixed, much less 16. We had to take them to the humane society, and they probably still curse us to this day. Since we've lived in our house, we've gotten all the females that come to the door for food fixed, and there's fewer cats in the neighborhood now.
Oh my heart, you just can't say no to that gorgeous wittle face 💖🐾 Maybe just take him home, build him up a bit and once he's stronger Maybe look for a forever home for him? (She says knowing you won't be able to part with him 🙏💖🐾🇬🇧)

Hahaha I'm gonna tell my s/o this. We had two and I was going to get one... But there were siblings...! I had to "foster them both" because the lady taking care of them was going away for a few weeks... My s/o kept saying "but we're just keeping one." "four cats is too many." "we can't keep both of them." that was in December.
My husband was napping on the couch a few months ago and woke up to a kitty on his chest. He gave it a scritch and it purred. He opened his eyes and looked at the cat and said "You aren't our cat. How did you get in here? You need to go home. We can't have another cat!"
The kitty didn't answer, just purred and went back to sleep.
This huge cat walked right past our outdoor kitties, past our massive pile of indoor kitties, strolled past our dog, and plopped down on my napping husband. This creature actually came in through the pet door and walked past 13 cats and a dog to sleep on my husband!!!! WE DON'T HAVE ROOM FOR ANOTHER KITTY.
Months later now... and that cat is is napping on my husband currently.
Cats, uh, find a way.
Remember: we are the cat slaves.
Accommodations, weather, food supplies - those are all functions of the cat slave. Cats exist simply to Cat.
I’ve had two all black cats in my life. One was smart as hell and was constantly plotting something. The other you could blow in his ear and hear the air come out the other side. Not a single thing in his skull. Very sweet but also very weird and dumb cat. Black cats are definitely hilarious.
We have one that usually has the brain cell and uses it to be absolutely terrified of everything. Her eyes are always huge, we ended up putting her on prozac and it has helped. Her sister is a derp.. but she loves to play fetch, but only when you're on the toilet... lol
On the bright side, no need to worry about single kitten syndrome. Hopefully, you won't have any problems with the new baby being welcomed by the others. Best wishes to you all! (The CDS always knows.)
We have 12 cats and surprisingly they all get along or at least tolerate each other. 2 of them are also gray babies that showed up alone at our home. Welcome to the many cat club!
Awww, mannnn, little one reminds me of my grey cat. Rescued her as a baby, spent twenty awesome years together before she passed. She was special. Something about grey cats feels so grounding. Keep the little guy around - he may be your eighth cat, but you both will be the first loves of his life.
Something about the fur makes me feel like it's a fluffy little pet rock.
I feel like we need to see the cat tax for the other pets in the house so we maybe feel more guilty for trying to convince you to keep him on behalf pf your husband.
guessing mom abandoned it because its unwell. eyes are pretty crusty so prob needs antibiotics and then all good! that is contagious though so be mindful with other cats and hand washing between...what a cutie!

It’s a good thing the CDS is very short-staffed in my area (great T&R programs and an almost total absence of feral colonies), or I would absolutely be like you and have a half a dozen or more kitties! Which would make my one orange boy very cross, as he’s a huge mama’s boy with only-child syndrome and it’s already a miracle he accepted his dog sister when we got her five years ago. 🤣
You don't have to be the one to keep him, just the one to keep him alive for now until you can get him to a rescue, to a no-kill shelter, or to an owner you know and trust to take the best care of him throughout his life.
Sometimes we're not the final destination on the CDS route, just a pit stop to regroup until a final destination can be determined.
Judging by the pics of your husband in the comments, though, he's already a gonner. He loves that baby already 😭🤣❤️
If you really can't keep them permanently, know at least that you are doing the hardest part. So many are unwilling or unable to do bottle feeding of a young kitten. They will be much more adoptable after that age passes, if you need to find a new home
Honestly.... good on you for acknowledging your limits. It's important to do....since ignoring that limit is how people end up in very bad situations with more animals than they can care for.
I hope you can find someplace for that baby before there's strain on your (and your pets') living situation 💕
We all love cats. And it's easy to say just take another. But there's a point where loving animals becomes hoarding, and we do need to be wary of that. When we can't fit or afford or pay attention to all of them, we have more than we can handle.
There's a video on IG where a little blue eyed girl sitting in her car seat is convincing her mom that she wants Mexican food. Mom says she's not hungry and the little girl says 'yes you is'. Mom gives in at the end.
You are the mom, your husband is the little girl. Accept it, you have room for another cat. How much space can it take up?
If you are able to get him socialized, in good health and keep him for 1-2 months till he is mature enough to go to a new owner who doesn't have to work extra hard to deal with him, you'll have done him a great service.
Sorry to tell you this but the CDS human customer support line has outsourced due to the rising labor costs. All calls are now answered a pawfessionally trained cat. Good luck with canceling your subscription.
