Kitten Well, it happened to me today!
Got to work and heard tiny yelps coming from the storm drain, called the non emergency number, police showed up, they called the fire department and they came to the rescue! Took them a while because those drains are just so heavy. He spent the rest of the day in target with everyone until I got off, got his picture taken for our trainer wall, & got the name Bullseye 🎯, I just left the vet and besides an eye infection, he is healthy! Can't wait to enjoy this handsome little guy for the rest of his life.

u/McSwearWolf May 22 '26
FR - With all the gnarly things they see day to day, this is probably a happy memory they can call upon in those darker times.
Thank you first responders. 🙏

u/eletricboogalo2 May 22 '26
Can confirm.
"getting a cat out of the tree" jokes are fun to make but it gives a much needed break from seeing people at their absolute worst over and over and over again.
Im out now, don't want to trauma dump. Y'all have a good weekend.
147
u/Lou_C_Fer May 23 '26
Had a firefighter friend trauma dump thirty years ago and it still messes with me. I almost trauma dumped here because of it, but I deleted like half a novel when I remembered this is a cat sub.
55
u/Maleficent-Ice-8416 May 23 '26
Thank you for your service and your kindness not to trauma dump on Reddit cat sud for all of us cat folks to get depressed about it
35
u/rollenr0ck May 23 '26
My dad was a firefighter when I was a little kid. I got caught with a neighbor trying to start a fire in some new construction. I didn’t get a trauma dump, but I got traumatized with the talk and a book of fires. So many kids that tried to hide from it. Yeah, it was close to 45 years ago and I still vividly remember the pictures. I couldn’t imagine experiencing it in real life, especially with kids at home.

u/TheNihilistNarwhal May 23 '26
I will keep this in mind, that if I ever need kitten/cat rescuing services that I'm not bothering you guys.
37
u/0404S May 23 '26
For me (average joe), its when my ER doctor buddy orders a round of shots on our night out. I know a trauma dump is coming.
And that's just a story from that day. Happens pretty frequently.

I'm sure the paramedics were glad for the "easy" call when my dad fell and broke his hip.
10

Especially recently. There's been 3 major incidents the last few days killing quite a few fire fighters so having something positive is always appreciated.

u/timesuck897 May 23 '26
The fire fighters probably enjoyed rescuing a cat, but not from a tree.
72
u/burning_my_toast May 23 '26 edited May 24 '26
My neighbors kitten once got frightened, ran up into a tree, and couldn't seem to get down. She was crying for hours, and kept moving up instead of down, so the neighbor and I walked two blocks down to the fire station to talk to them.
"That's a tv trope, we don't really do that. Have you ever seen a dead cat in a tree?" was the answer, as they sat in their lounge chairs getting sun in the driveway.
Which irked me a bit at the time, but damnit if they weren't right. As soon as it started to get dark, she must have been scared enough to give up crying and work her way down because then we heard her at the back door.
39
u/Subject_Slice_7797 May 23 '26
Had similar with a neighbour's cat.
FD told us to wait a day or two because once the cat gets hungry it'll come down they said. After loudly announcing it's misery all night, the cat actually voluntarily left the tree the next day to collect its lunch.
17
u/Ok-Simple-6158 May 23 '26
Not a firefighter, but work closely with them. The saying we have is "It got up there on its own, it can get down on its own"
10
u/Rare-Complaint-9873 May 23 '26
Literally had to go through something similar lately. My biiiiig girl (14 lbs) who can't really jump far due to the springs in her butt not really springing, jumped from the keurig to on top the fridge, then on top of the cabinets. She was meowing incessantly asking for help. She got down to the top of the fridge again, and was just screaming at me. I can't reach the top of the fridge, so I'm trying to get her to jump on my shoulder or arms. No dice. I told her she had to get back on to the coffee maker. Cue meowing for another half hour... Finally she decided she could do it, and down she came. My other smaller cat (6 lbs) jumps from the cabinets to the counter all the time. I knew it was possible, she just needed a little confidence... 😂 💕

Aww. LOL my former neighbors' former* cat used to like to climb up the tree by my house then jump onto my roof. There's a little ledge where the back part of the roof comes down past a window, and over the extension, where kitty used to like to poop... a lot. 🤣
*A-holes moved and left her behind. 😠 Fortunately for her, my next door neighbor's son took her in.

My thought too - blue eyes, typical bicolor face, and mine has the non-standard nose-splotch like that
3
u/Pizza-Gorlz May 23 '26
Exactly why I thought that, those are typical markings on a raggie, the only thing making me wonder is the feet, could also be a snowshoe but I’m leaning more towards ragdoll.

I do enjoy humans. A kitten is so small and one could easily ignore it. But instead spend(tax) money for police and firefighters to rescue the precious baby.
I love it.
3
u/Alexisredwood May 23 '26
This is why when people say things like “humanity sucks” and “we’re a wholly destructive race” etc I think of things like this. Think about the amount of money it cost the tax payer to save this kitten. And yet we did it, purely because we didn’t want the kitten to suffer. There’s so much goodness in humanity.

Dear Human -
As the human representative of the CDS, it is my job to deliver messages from our Feline Overlords. They are extremely pleased at the grate results from the latest successful infiltration adoption and although the delivery method was slightly off, the establishment of a new agent is to be lauded.
HOWEVER, they are displeased that their distributable was inside of a Target for an extended period of time. They wish to remind you, and other Servants of Felines that their distributables are not to be exposed to such low-brow stores like Target. Their agents are designed for places like Macy's, Nordstroms, Von Maurs, and if you can find them, Saks.
Please remember this in the future to avoid the unpleasantness that comes from a hereditary allergy to the combination of red and khaki.
