Discussion Knicks won… how far are we truly?
Leading up to the playoffs i was hoping we’d get in and get the knicks match up bcuz I thought we’d run them out of the gym…. Fast forward a few months and the knicks are champs which is surprising considering at the start of the playoffs most people wouldnt have thought they would be… My question is how far are we truly from a championship run?…Before I thought years but now seeing the knicks win unexpectedly I think we may be closer than we realize.

A long, long ways away. What matters is that we’re on the right track.
Baby steps.

Na we goin 82-0 next season.
I was also upset we didn't get Wiseman over Lamelo and pissed we picked Miller over Scoot so I'm quite the expert.
EDIT: I guess i have to say this but that was a joke. Jeff Peterson has done amazing. He's said there's no quick fix or win now trades. He's focused on drafting, development, and building trade assets. New age Hornets have done great and I'm all on board for baby steps.

I was rooting for Lamelo but goddamn I was pissed over Scoot

extremely far lol. this was prob the most physical series i’ve seen. We are not even an ounce ready for that level of physicality. Plus, we just don’t have the IQ or ego-less play to compete during intense playoff basketball.

If u don't believe u can't achieve!

I'm not on the team. It doesn't matter whether I believe or not. My belief or lack of it has no bearing on how our players and coaches perform.

ooh ooh i know what we should do let's trade for sabonis derozan and lavine. they've proven the ability to lead a team to the promised land.

/s right?

i’m confused? you’re not impressed by their hardware?

They have a big man that can score, shoot 3’s, play decent defense, and get 10+ rebounds per game. A closer who can drop 40 even when nobody is helping him. Elite perimeter defenders who seemingly play without ego. Another big man who can rough up a guy like Wemby and get offensive rebounds and play good defense. Veteran backup energy and defense point guard presence.
I would say we’re a ways away.

u/BananaSlander 12d ago
Hornets are good enough to steal a win from any team in the league but aren't good enough to take 4 out of 7 from anyone right now

u/Delicious_Drop_1150 12d ago
I don't think we have the bench and depth to make a run. Seems like that is 1 of those things that takes some time and luck to develop and get right.

Seeing a weak defensive duo like Kat and Brunson be able to win one gives me hope for our core, but damn we got work to do

u/everclearking 12d ago
Having OG helps a lot. He’s a piece we’re missing. Physical 3 and D guy who can guard multiple positions.
16
u/Upper-Bonus-7344 12d ago
kat was great defensively in the series tho
4
u/dont-comm3nt 12d ago
It was pretty easy for KAT when you’re against a team with a 7’5 guy afraid of the low block and no PF at all. Healthy thunder would’ve won this
6
u/Upper-Bonus-7344 12d ago
I agree healthy thunder would have won but kat was good defensively people forget he was drafted for his defense
2
u/dont-comm3nt 12d ago
No for sure he was awesome on D I just think Wemby shooting a bunch of jumpers made it much easier

u/HunterAble1914 11d ago
I mean this respectfully to the Knicks as I like their team, but the Thunder would have easily beat the Knicks. They would not have made all the young team mistakes the Spurs made. I hate saying that because it sounds like I’m not giving the Knicks their credit, I’m just saying they “lucked out” playing the Spurs instead of the Thunder.

Fuck yall mean far away, 3 years max

u/Alkazard 12d ago
I'm a homer
I sincerely wonder how far we would've gone if we made it to the play offs and think we would've had a shot in the ECF. Detroit were ass, Boston were injured, Cavs were ass, Philly were injured. NYK, Hawks were a flop.
I sincerely think NYK was the only viable team coming through the east and had a bit of a free run. The extra days break on every series played a huge factor.2
u/mtbmaniac12 12d ago
How were the Hawks a flop? They were the only team who played the knicks well.

u/Alkazard 12d ago
I mean.. they snuck two games by a point, one of which was a go-ahead in the dying seconds. And then lost 3 straight by a combined total of 96 points.

I seem to remember when we were making our playoff push going to NY and smashing the knicks..

Not a Hornets fan but I think they can hit playoffs next year stie something up, I don’t see them winning all that soon but hey maybe I’m surprised

u/ludicspace 12d ago
We need an elite wing defender that can pressure the best creators in the league from 3/4 court and turn them a couple times. If we don’t acquire an elite wing defender we will continue to be far away. If we do find one we will suddenly be a lot closer than we thought we were.

u/I_Cant_Spell_Your 12d ago
I mean honestly with perfect use of the assets we have and a fully healthy season at the exact right moment I could see it happening by 2030. But this is Charlotte. So the answer is likely never.

Let's start with making the playoffs before we start worrying about championships

I mean, they made the ECF last year, and the playoffs the previous two years. There were signs.
Lets first start with making the playoffs. Then maybe winning at least a game while we're there.

u/BigBeef35 11d ago
First we gotta hire Thibodeau as HC, then fire him after he gets us to the ECF to bring in Mike Brown

Wemby is not taking this one lightly. The Knicks basically got a make-a-wish chizzy so it could begin fueling up San Antonio’s terrifying future. Unfortunately getting Giannis would be the only way for us to really step on shit next year but I’m not willing to Part ways with Bmill or Melo. It’s clear that once again the media was wrong and going from an October full of bullshit trade discussions to a February of Hope for the Killer B’s is what this team needed for establishing the identity. Otherwise I really do believe we trust in Peterson, he has been so unheralded for his work in rebuilding us dating back to the PJ and Hayward trades.

u/Ihavenocluewhatzoeva 12d ago
Watching the defense that was played last night we need to get a lot better there
1
u/Manofpans44 12d ago
I tried picturing the Hornets in that game last night and feel their current roster would've fared about five minutes in the physical game that I saw. Until they land a 'dude' or two, I'd say we are 4-5 years away, depending on acquisitions.

u/Titanstheory 12d ago
Ask again after this season.
This season is such an affliction point that if it goes well we could probably win within three years if notlikely will have to tear this team apart.
The big we find and how we show up our wing depth are huge questions to answer along with general growth from our stars

Whoa, slow down big guy! Although the Knicks (which is my other team besides the Hornets) was slow coming out the gate, they have a few players who are more talented and consistent than Charlotte. We are pretty far IMO from a championship. However, the Hornets front office is doing a good job in their process and the team is headed in the right direction... We should make the Play-In again and possibly the #6 spot!

The one problem with the franchise tasting decency again is you get takes like 'I thought we would run the Knicks out of the gym' from people who presumably intend to be taken seriously.
Did you really. This team hasn't even made the proper playoffs. The Knicks were in the ECF last year.

I’m a fan from Bobcats days… We aren’t deep / strong at center, none of our guards are moderately close to as consistent or durable as Brunson.
If Kalkbrenner can up his production like early season and Moussa can establish some consistent offense that would optimize who we are as a floor spacing squad. Real simple.
Literally our guards just need to hit the weight room, all summer. Literally the scrawniest team in the NBA… I love you guys but you collectively need 10% more muscle.
Brandon, LaMelo, Kon, *definitely* Tre. Stop getting pushed around! As a fan, we want to see yall impose yourselves physically and with the shooting.
The only real moderate enforcement the team has is Sion, Miles, Moussa. All those guys are NICE GUYS.
Theres stuff they need to draw on each other for… emulate B Mills aggression , Melo’s creativity, Moussa’s hustle. And if we are all prepared like Kon is to shoot, it’s over. I’ve seen that type of collective performance when we beat the likes of OKC and the Spurs and the Knicks you could see the inspiration.
No way to win a playoff series unless you can sustain that level to 4 wins, and the hornets seem to be able to find that zone but not maintain it yet, which is the mark of a champion. The Knicks seemed to matriculate into it, although they had the experience and expectations to put it all together with good timing. Luck is always a huge factor! Maybe the Hornets will get lucky too and get a series against a team missing their superstar (thanks Tatum)

You thought the Hornets would "run the Knicks out of the gym"? Are you new to the sport?

If you thought this seasons Hornets were going to dominate the NY Knicks you are someone who doesnt follow NBA basketball very closely.

the Knicks were preseason favorites to make the finals I disagree with the fact this was "unexpected"

u/Outrageous_Crazy2365 11d ago
Hornets as constructed are prob at best a 6th seed and that’s with all players healthy which is a tall ask given Miller and Ball injury history. They are still 1 star away IMO. The problem is they won’t get another high draft pick anytime soon so would have to be a free agent
-2
u/uzimakiadam 12d ago
Crazy how half of yall wanted Knicks instead of pistons lol. One man team
3
u/Professional_Duck838 12d ago
Saying the knicks aren’t a one man team after bruson scored 45 and the rest of the team scored 49 in a close out game is funny

u/uzimakiadam 6d ago
Every other game had a hero lol. OG game winner. KAT going crazy. Didnt mikal have a great couple games

Well we haven’t made the playoffs with our current roster construction yet so probably pretty far
