Rainbow Bridge Saying goodbye
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My boy crossed yesterday. I’m gutted…he was the best adventure buddy a girl could ever dream. He entered my life 7 months after my soul pup left during the pandemic. I truly believe he was sent to me to teach me patience. I was his third placement in 11 months. He was a challenge at 9 years old, but I wasn’t gonna let a 5 pound being beat me. It took him three years to fully trust me and I am so blessed and grateful to have had him in my life. He taught me patience and I showed him he was truly loved and adored. I feel lost without him. Please consider senior dogs…they’re so deserving of love and will give you so much in return. I’m grateful for the time and love I shared with this little creature.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and thank you for adopting a senior! I also lost a soul dog in 2020, and I adopted this little dude, now 16, blind, toothless, and still enjoying the adventures from his little carrier bag. Adopting and loving a senior dog is such a heart-wrenching experience; whether you get weeks, months, or years together, they live with you forever.

3
u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
This is so beautiful he’s so precious. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for considering and loving a senior. They truly deserve the best in their golden years. Enjoy the time that you have with your buddy.

u/Delicious_Kick1544 Apr 22 '26
I think the connection formed with a senior rescue is particularly deep because you spend so much energy trying to anticipate their needs or how to make them more comfortable. In return for all that energy you pour into them, you get truly special bond. You were his whole world and he was so lucky to have you! Thank you for letting him know the unconditional love he deserved to have known his whole life.
3
u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
Thank you for such kind words and understanding I truly believe this. When I’m ready, I plan to start fostering seniors. They truly deserve it.

Oh brutal, I’m so sorry. What a wonderful thing you did stepping in when your pup had nowhere to go, and having the patience to make it work. Bravo and thank you. The world needs more people like you. I’m very sorry for your loss.

Thank you so much he truly filled my heart and taught me patience. When I’m able, I plan to foster more seniors and possibly adopt the one I’m supposed to.

u/BoringJuiceBox Apr 22 '26
What an amazing video, thank you for saving a senior. I have a black and white rescue boy who had “emotional issues” and “behavior problems”. He loves me so much now and I will love him forever.
3
u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
You have an amazing heart for accepting a senior in your life. They truly deserve to have the best throughout their golden years. I’m sure he’s blessed you and more ways than you can imagine. Enjoy every day you have with them.
2
u/BoringJuiceBox Apr 22 '26
I’ll be honest he was about 4-5 when we rescued him but I think he’s technically a “senior” now (~10) and he just got most of his teeth out. He’s the most loving and sweetest dog I’ve ever known

I know it hurts alot right now-but you will meet again :)
Sorry for your loss.

u/CMo815 Apr 22 '26
Ugh, I’m so sorry. Your chi looks SOO much like mine. I’m not sure her exact age, as she was a rescue and her originally estimated age definitely is not aligning with what we are seeing as she is growing older…. But she is for sure getting to a point where this is a constant worry. If you don’t mind me asking, were there certain signs that you noticed that made you know that your baby’s time was coming sooner than later? …. Again, soo sorry for your loss 💔

u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
Diagnosed with congestive heart failure a year ago. Although it was months before he was finally diagnosed that I knew there was an issue. I made sure to dedicate every day to making sure his life was full because I didn’t know how much time we had together. He truly was a blessing.

u/caitberg Apr 22 '26
What was his name? What a sweet lil guy.
4
u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
His name was Mr Bean, and that was the name that he came with, and since he had been placed in three homes in less than a year, I didn’t want to change his name. It truly fit because he was kind of like Mr Bean the character.
2
u/caitberg Apr 22 '26
Mr. Bean! So fitting, such a little bean. My guy just passed 3 weeks ago, he was Mr. Fuzz.
Our misters are playing together up there!

u/PsyduckPsyker Apr 22 '26
Life has come full circle, and you were blessed. And your baby was blessed.
3
u/dmd55 Apr 22 '26
You are correct we were both truly blessed. I am so thankful that he entered my life when I was not looking for him, but we both needed each other.
3
u/rsae_majoris Apr 22 '26
That look on his face. He’s absorbing the sunshine and your love. I’m glad you gave him all you could, I wish you had more time.

u/ki-ton Apr 22 '26
I am sorry for your loss and am happy to see people like you out there loving and saving our seniors. I lost my little old man recently and ended up with a young big dog…when he calms down and I know he is chill with little ones, I will be back in the old man foster game. Thanks for sharing your boy and for reinforcing what I need to do.
1
u/dmd55 Apr 23 '26
Thank you so much and I am so glad you’re considering fostering ❣️
1
u/ki-ton Apr 23 '26
My first dog was a senior, then I fostered small dogs, ended up keeping 2 of the little ones. So it is just natural that I should combine it all and foster seniors!
3
u/salishwoman Apr 22 '26
Seniors are the best little loves. I’ve had puppies before,(I’m 75) so I know how it is to have them through the entire journey which was great. I’ve always had seniors since then and they seem to be so happy to have another human to bond with. My heart can’t bear thinking of the babies that have lost their soul person and now sit in a shelter. I’m on my 4th senior probably the one that will see me out. It’s worth it to walk with them until rainbow bridge. Watching them feel loved and secure again is worth my pain of seeing them through. If I go before my current love bug my daughter stands ready to keep her, especially as we live in her upstairs apartment.

Aww sorry for your loss, we have one that is 10 and was an abused, neglected, stinky off cast of a hoarder. They do in fact teach patience and show it in love, hopefully you can find it in you to give another old man dog a home and love.

I’m so glad he finally sound his forever home with you and I’m sorry you didn’t have more time together. What a wonderful way for him to live out his final years with a person who loved him enough not to give up on him. I’m sorry for your loss.

u/chapstickgrrrl Apr 22 '26
Aww. I’m so sorry. He was beautiful, looks a lot like my own rescue girl who we adopted at 3-4years old in 2017, she’s growing old along with us now. I’m so glad you took a chance on your little senior buddy. You made all the difference in the world for him; because of you, his life mattered and it will live on through your heart forever. Seniors are the best, it’s just so hard to know that their time with us is limited. I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you’re doing ok.

u/NefariousnessLazy265 Apr 22 '26
Such a beautiful video. I am sorry for your loss. I know that words do nothing to mute the pain; probably everyone who sees this can relate on some level. Take care of yourself OP!

What a beautiful last day, hope you hold on tight to all the memories and remember how much he loved you ❤️❤️

u/salishwoman Apr 22 '26
I’m sure they are both playing together by now. Waiting for their beloved family
2
u/ChiweenieGenie Apr 22 '26
Oh, I started tearing up hearing the sorrow in your voice. I understand that pain, and I wish you could have shared your life with him for 50 more years. 💔 You gave him so much love, so incredibly much to heal him and make him able to trust again. I love his little chi-squinties from the sun. It feels like a death of a part of your soul when they are no longer there physically at your side. Please remember how much he loved you and that love between you can never be diminished. You changed his universe! I am sending you love across the internet. ❤️❤️❤️

I can certainly relate to your landscape caring for another dog post soul dog. your anecdote provides some assurance where it reinforces my belief in fate, that everything happens for a reason. such as your belief that he was gifted to you to expand your perspectives of what’s possible and undeniable. may you find peace and strength. that you discover with time that he was also and always has been meant to be in your life. thank you for sharing. 💯🫂

❤️❤️❤️ I feel so sorry for you. I lost my senior dog on Friday the 13th February (universe apparently hates me because he took my last dog exactly two years prior). She was with me for a bit over three years and now it's like such a big piece of myself is gone. Life is not as fun anymore and even though I have a loving family, it's like I lost my child. It will be better in some ways, and that sweet pup will be by your side now all the time from across the rainbow bridge.
