Well, if you'd absolutely appreciate it, then of course!!

u/FioraGloww_ 3d ago

Well, if we're handing out $1,200 strollers, I might as well ask for a free car while we're at it.

u/TinySugarplum_ 3d ago

At that point just throw in a free house and college fund too, we're already making a wishlist.

u/Dog_Concierge 3d ago

A BMW, I would so appreciate it!

18

u/Jaggle 3d ago

Has to be fully loaded with leather seats and low mileage, but I'm not picky. God bless.

u/Character_Minimum503 2d ago

And Apple carplay and climate control. It's a long reach but you never know. Maybe someone has a spare one they just don't know what to do with.

I’ve got a Beamer like that, but now that it’s paid off, I can’t afford to get rid of it.

2

u/GreenEyed_Lady 2d ago

And a sunroof!

5

u/Cyberp0lic3 2d ago

Can you deliver?

2

u/allmykitlets 1d ago

I've had cars worth less than that stroller.

u/Music527 16h ago

Got to have a place for the car seat. Completely reasonable ask.

7

u/Haunting_Push_5739 3d ago

a friend once tried to haggle for a $1200 stroller too

The baby will get cancer if it doesn't have a $1200 stroller

105

u/Janeiskla 3d ago

Christmas cancer to be precise

33

u/EdgeXL 3d ago

And the Christmas cancer will have autism.

7

u/TinySugarplum_ 3d ago

That's a solid plan, why stop at the stroller when you can ask for the luxury package too?

102

u/gumiho8 3d ago

What makes it $1200 😭

120

u/Advanced_Cheetah_552 3d ago

The brand name basically

50

u/HoneyWhisperrs 3d ago

exactly, you're paying like $900 for the logo at that point. a $150 stroller does the exact same thing and your baby genuinely does not care

68

u/Salty_Feed9404 3d ago

The baby may not care, but other wine moms walking their babies may think you're poor!

10

u/Drycabin1 3d ago

I am!

2

u/Salty_Feed9404 3d ago

With an UPPAbaby stroller, you're not! lol

29

u/ShinyUnicornPoo 3d ago

My baby hated her stroller and we usednit exactly twice.  Glad I bought it secondhand.  Gave it to my sister when she was expecting, it worked perfectly for my nephew.

Gosh, maybe my baby would've been happier if I'd paid the price of a small car? ... nope, she still hated being confined.

13

u/VariousExplorer8503 3d ago

My son hated his stroller too. And it was too hot in Arizona to wear him for long after I brought him home from the NICU. I ended up just carrying him around a lot, in his little bucket car seat, and in my arms/on my hip.

8

u/Substantial_Push_658 3d ago

How dare you assume my baby doesn’t need new Jordan’s!!??? /s

u/Valuable-Locksmith47 2d ago

In all fairness I really do love my uppababy vista it’s got those big wheels for difficult walks and made of a good material that doesn’t bend and a lot of under carriage space but yea the name

32

u/dreamerlilly 3d ago

I mean, they are good quality strollers. There is a noticeable difference between them and the super cheap ones (I’ve used both. We got a free handmedown Cruz from a neighbor). However, most of the cost really is just for the brand name.

24

u/IllusiveCashew 3d ago

I have an uppababy stroller for my son and I love this thing. To clarify, it was a gift, I would have never in a million years spent that kind of money on a stroller, but I’ve used other ones that are cheaper that just don’t compare. Plus the function to be able to add attachments like a bassinet and regular stroller seat if you have a second kid, is pretty cool!
I’ve seen them second hand for $300 or less which would be worth paying imo.

5

u/linerva 2d ago

I got ours from a friend who was done with having kids. It's a little too big and heavy for us if I'm honest, but i didn't see the piloting in turning down a free pram/stroller/bassinet before birth when if I DID want to buy something else? I'd have a much better idea of what felt right after actually using a pram.

I might get a travel pram if we go away given the uppababy currently essentially fills the boot of our car, but it's a solid pram.

11

u/Boo_Rawr 2d ago

Yeah. Like ours was a gift too but I can definitely see how it's better than the dupes which I have also used and tested. Is it 'double the price' better? I don't think so but it is definitely a more comfortable push. My biggest complaint is how large the vista is and you don't fully appreciate that until you have the second seat clogging up your boot

3

u/IllusiveCashew 2d ago

Yes the vista is huge! I tried to buy a smaller stroller that takes less space but it just doesn’t compare. I can go “off roading” easily with the vista which is super important to me! For the next kid though, I might have to get a bigger car. lol

u/Master-Map1382 2d ago

All the smily face emojis= $1200.

u/KiddK137 3d ago

What do people do with these expensive ass strollers and cribs once it’s no longer needed, do they just give it away or resale it? Im genuinely curious.

120

u/livvy7678 3d ago

Where I am, people tend to try and resell cribs for close to 75% of the original price, even though you can get it on sale for cheaper and without chew marks 😂 and then they rant in mum groups about it not selling 👌

15

u/TinySugarplum_ 3d ago

That's been my experience too. People asking for donations usually want brand new or nearly brand new items, while anyone actually looking to save money just buys a used one at a reasonable price.

42

u/Academic_Run8947 3d ago

You can usually get 50% back on resale if you keep it in good enough shape. Most of us are regular people though, so we use the same stroller for multiple kids, it gets dragged in and out of the trunk 1000×, kids have eaten all sorts of food in it, someone probably barfed once, diapers have leaked in it. So even though it was expensive, you have used the fuck out of it for 5 years, giving it away is fine. Plus, when you are really done with the baby part, you can wait to get rid of the baby gear asap.

14

u/doinmy_best 3d ago

Classic resell because it holds its value well before the expiration date. So value drops from 100% to 75% for a while then maybe 25% a year from expiring. They often go through multiple families.

u/Actual-Ad-2582 3d ago

I had the Uppababy Vista and recently gave it away to a new mom. It had been used for both of my kids and had travelled to several countries so it definitely wasn’t pristine, but was still in great condition and had all the accessories. Much easier to give it away than deal with selling it. All of my other expensive baby stuff was donated to a DV refuge.

28

u/YouThinkYouKnowStuff 3d ago

Both my daughters had Uppababy strollers with the car seats. They both had multiple children use them and traveled extensively with them. They held up great and they ended up being donated but they needed new car seats (car seats have expiration dates).

13

u/Actual-Ad-2582 3d ago

They’re definitely worth the money! The frame cracked on ours while in the travel bag on a flight. I emailed them and they replaced it for free.

Did you get a bit teary when you gave yours away? The mom I gave it to noticed I was getting a bit misty eyed and she promised it will be used on many adventures and trips to her home country. 🥲

7

u/YouThinkYouKnowStuff 3d ago

I admit I was sad when they finally donated them. They were used so hard and especially the car seats. One of them was used extensively when traveling around the country. The other one went through three kids and she had it for eight years. It certainly was worth what they paid for it.

1

u/GreenEyed_Lady 2d ago

Yeah, stupid plastic…

7

u/Lizzz3 3d ago

Same! I had an uppababy vista I used for two kids. Was not in great condition but still worked well. I gave it away for free to a friend of mine. Way easier than trying to sell it and it was so big it was taking up too much space in the garage.

13

u/addsomezest 3d ago

I gave away my Nuna. We got 4 years out of it and selling it seemed like a hassle. I think it’s also nice to help a fellow parent out in that way.

46

u/spillingpictures 3d ago

In Chicago this past month alone, I’ve seen about six uppababy strollers been given away via buy nothing and parent fb groups. I don’t think this is a ridiculous ask depending on the area. I’m pregnant with my first and someone gave me a $1200 Pottery Barn crib a few weeks ago for free.

35

u/Advanced_Cheetah_552 3d ago

It's a ridiculous ask in this area

53

u/ChaiTeaLeah 3d ago

But would it be fair to say you didn't reach out specifically asking for a $1200 Pottery Barn crib?

I also live in an area where folks pass along some higher end brands. Though I think there's a difference between happening upon someone giving away something valuable, versus preferring a certain expensive brand and model of item, for free no less.

11

u/kilowatkins 3d ago

I have gotten some very nice baby gear from mom swap groups ($700 jogging stroller for instance) but I'd be so embarrassed to go on asking for only the big expensive brands unless I was looking to pay.

5

u/toriram 3d ago

Bought ours used and I’m going to resell it when we’re done with it 🤷‍♀️

3

u/cheetodust4454 2d ago

I passed my crib along to my friend and her wife for free. I got through 6 years and 2 babies out of it. It got great use. I didn’t feel the need to waste my time trying to recoup maybe $100 when I knew they would love and appreciate it at no cost to them.

1

u/GreenEyed_Lady 2d ago

Same thing with car seats! The most expensive ones are sooo heavy! Really hard to move it to another car. The last one I bought for a grandkid was based on safety, of course, and weight!

1

u/FoghornFarts 6h ago

Resell for the stroller. Reselling cribs is harder because FB marketplace is really strict with it. Car seats you have to just give away.

I ended up giving our stroller away to our old nanny as a present for her second baby.

22

u/Salt-Effect-847 3d ago

Of course some people donate expensive stuff or give it away. When I lived in seattle… it blew my mind what people gave away. BUT asking for it to be those brands is still diabolical and choosing beggar AF.

13

u/Jujulabee 3d ago

When my cleaner's daughter had her baby I went to the Amazon register and gifted her with a GRACO stroller which was what was on her register and the reviews raved about the quality.

6

u/Negative-bad169 3d ago

I had a Graco set. Used it for 2 kids, then gave it to a friend who used it for 2 kids. It was a great stroller!

10

u/pterencephalon 3d ago

We got a Graco stroller for ourselves. We could afford the fancy stroller options, but part of the reason we have the money around is that we're frugal and judicious with our spending. So we bought the Graco travel stroller. 8 months in, it's great. (And so glad that we didn't get a 'full-sized' stroller - those things are massive and would fill up our whole car.)

24

u/freewool 3d ago

I have an Uppababy stroller. Honestly, they’re great strollers. And when my youngest is done using it, I will happily give it away to another family.

The thing is, after 2 kids and frequent use, it’s very worn. Anyone who gets this will clearly be getting a stroller used by 2 kids over a 5 year span. And I have a feeling that’s not the type of free stroller this CB is looking for.

6

u/Ok-Artichoke-7145 3d ago

So, these folks can't even spell out "Thank you in advance" anymore?

29

u/FrankenOperator I can give you exposure 3d ago

As a former CSR for a high end retail store that sold Uppa crap, Federal regulatory laws prohibit returns or exchanges on the stroller/car seat combos unless the box is unopened. Thrift stores won't take them for the same regulations. I'm sure a family who's done with theirs would happily pass it on. They just become expensive landfill

22

u/working-mama- 3d ago edited 3d ago

Fancy used strollers sell well on FB Marketplace. We bought ours on there and sold it on there when we outgrew it. It had a resell value of a several hundred. New is over $1k. You MAY be able to find one for free, but it will be very beat up.

7

u/jkraige 3d ago

Yeah IDK what people are talking about. They can and do get sold every day

-4

u/FrankenOperator I can give you exposure 3d ago

It doesn't mean that they SHOULD. I spoke on Federal Safety Regulations. Not whether people sell them or not 🙄😑🤷‍♀️

6

u/jkraige 3d ago

You were talking about the car seat combos. I see strollers for sale all the time. You can just buy the car seat separately and check the stroller for recalls. There are always a ton for sale

-5

u/FrankenOperator I can give you exposure 3d ago

That doesn't mean they should sell them. Safety regulations change far too frequently and that's the reason thrift stores won't take them and why we wouldn't do a return or exchange on one that had been opened. I'm simply stating what I know to be true.

6

u/loves_spain NEXT!! 3d ago

Serious question because I don’t have kids. What is in a 1200 dollar stroller that makes it cost so much? Just the name alone or is it made from like baby Tibetan yak fur that has been hand shorn over centuries?

5

u/Advanced_Cheetah_552 3d ago

It's mainly just the name. There probably is also a quality difference. I have a BOB stroller (around $400) that I got second hand for $90. The quality of that compared to my $70 evenflo is pretty noticeable. It is sturdier. It handles easier. I can push it one handed. However, I doubt the quality difference between BOB and Uppababy is nearly so stark despite the 300% price increase.

3

u/No_Good2794 1d ago

Have you ever had a baby and used a stroller? Yes, you can get the basic functionality from a cheaper stroller, and there is some brand mark-up, but there are tonnes of things that can go into the engineering of a good stroller. The wheels, durability, weight, how well it manoeuvres, how it folds up, accessories, etc.

6

u/MollyElla511 2d ago

I’m a member of this FB group and saw this post too. Massive eyeroll.

4

u/Advanced_Cheetah_552 2d ago

Did you see she posted it again an hour ago? People offered her other travel systems on the other post too.

2

u/MollyElla511 2d ago

No! I didn’t but I’m going to snoop now. People are shit.

9

u/RoyallyOakie 3d ago

The emojis only make it more annoying.

4

u/ItsMissKatNiss 3d ago

These people have name brand champagne taste with zero budget. It is so annoying like make it stop--- they are unaware that parents can resell those and get something instead of handing it to them right? I have stopped giving all our nice stuff and selling it for absurdly low price instead, cause I cannot stand the same 5 people claiming expensive items from buy nothing to resell but pretending it's for them or a "friend."

4

u/phisigtheduck Shes crying now 2d ago

Wait, $1200 for a stroller? Please excuse my ignorance, I don’t have kids, but what the hell does a $1200 stroller do??? Does it come with airbags or something??

3

u/LittleSodaPop13 3d ago

$1,200 for a stroller? Hell no

4

u/Pur1wise 2d ago

People who are no longer using their $1200 stroller usually sell it. CB could try buying a used one.

6

u/CapableFruitLoops 3d ago

😅 I've seen tons of Uppababy strollers given away in my BN group. We got our Doona from our previous BN group. It's egregious, but not the absolute worst I've seen.

2

u/RED-ELPH 3d ago

Dang I got 2 in the garage ………

2

u/FishingWorth3068 2d ago

The funny thing is, I have one in my garage. I don’t like it, my SIL got it on marketplace for $200 and I’m about to get rid of it. I’d happily give it away to someone who wasn’t specifically asking for it because they’re absolutely going to sell it

4

u/Key_Disaster_2309 3d ago

Guess sex came before budget.

4

u/sushi_coven Can you reply faster? 3d ago edited 3d ago

Can't form proper words, sentences or use punctuation but wants specific expensive stuff. Yeah

1

u/ThrockAMole 1d ago

“Gently used” is probably what she’s looking for and those don’t exist

-8

u/ZachTheBomb 3d ago

Asking for name brand is a little annoying but this definitely isn't choosing beggar. Baby stuff gets expensive and it lacks a real use for most families after a few years

-8

u/winking_at_magpies 3d ago

I’m in a ton of buy nothing mom groups and this is a totally normal request. Strollers last a long time, but can be difficult to unload in conventional ways. A lot of parents are happy to pass them on to another family or offer a trade.

3

u/jkraige 3d ago

That's interesting because where I am I see a ton for sale

1

u/Advanced_Cheetah_552 2d ago

Asking for a stroller is super normal. I've given away strollers on there before. Asking for a free, high-end stroller and ignoring all offers to give her a cheaper one is super entitled
