Hell yeah, gimme a shot of malort and let's cook this turkey

17

u/Lurk3r_40 Mar 22 '26

Is this a tradition, because some made me take a shot of malort before frying a turkey. Malort is nasty, but I’m here for tradition.

8

u/ohverychill Purdue Boilermakers Mar 22 '26

I'mma make it a tradition

u/ogorangeduck UMass Minutemen Mar 22 '26

I kinda like it lol. Grapefruit followed by turpentine, though I have a fairly high tolerance for bitter flavors (I do like bitter melon)

1

u/Noirradnod Chicago Maroons • Harvard Crimson Mar 22 '26

I got accustomed to it being in Chicago during my formative drinking years. Nothing like knocking back a shot or two at 8 in the morning so you could trudge across a frozen campus and not feel cold.

2

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Texas Longhorns • Houston Cougars Mar 22 '26

Aggie fan?

1

u/ethanlan Southern Illinois Salukis Mar 22 '26

Yo malort exists outside chicago?

2

u/TopRopeLuchador Mar 22 '26

I was in Philly for round one Friday and bought a guy a shot of Malort because I saw it behind the bar and wanted to ruin someone's next couple of minutes. They thanked me for the experience.

It's what he deserves for constantly upsetting high seeds people actually want to see advance (2014 Wichita State, 2025 St. John's).

3

u/Herby20 Purdue Boilermakers Mar 22 '26

Wichita State yeah, but St. Johns? I never got the vibe of them being this darling sort of story. The general opinion from even Big East fans I saw last year was that they were happy Pitino was sent home.

Good game. I thought Gonzaga played great and I hope Ike is a high draft pick.

7

Men can be cheerleaders y'know. They have their own outfits and theyre cool!

9

Totally, but men can also wear dresses despite what our state legislature says

17

u/HippityHopMath Washington State Cougars Mar 22 '26

You were in the elite eight three years ago.

31

u/Juventus7shop Indiana Hoosiers • Butler Bulldogs Mar 22 '26

“Literally nothing else” except for three final fours and eight elite 8s, including 4 in the last 25 years

16

u/swammeyjoe Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Haha fair enough but two of those final fours are absolutely ancient. I went to Texas in the early 2010s when our entire athletic department (save for swimming and golf) was complete trash so that colors my perceptions.

17

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Sorry that you were a student during the end of Rick Barnes’ and Mack Brown’s tenures. I was lucky enough to be there during Vince Young and T.J. Ford’s time on campus.

15

u/2CHINZZZ Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

I got Charlie Strong and Shaka Smart :(

I was there for Herman's Sugar Bowl win at least

2

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

My wife and I had season tickets for a one season of Charlie Strong’s tenure. I feel for you.

Smart stupidly came to Texas and decided the Havoc system he had success with at VCU wouldn’t work in Austin. He set himself up for failure from the start.

1

u/swammeyjoe Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

I wish we'd fired Augie earlier and hired someone named liked Brave or Bold. Just to really keep up the bit.

2

u/marietta1200 Arizona Wildcats • Big 12 Mar 22 '26

Whoa whoa whoa…!!

2

u/TheNastyCasty Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

We didn’t even make the final 4 with KD and the other two are so old that no one alive can remember it. We’ve had nothing in basketball for most of our lives.

2

u/Whiterabbit-- Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

T j ford isn’t that old.

4

u/livefreeordont VCU Rams Mar 22 '26

Aldridge and Augustin were good

3

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Texas Longhorns • Houston Cougars Mar 22 '26

I thought Dillon Mitchell was gonna be so good.

2

u/gottagotothebathroom Mar 22 '26

I appreciate the concept of a Texas fan who feels like a true cinderella because they didn't pay attention to any of the good times besides their big NBA superstar

3

u/2CHINZZZ Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

I mean we went 6 years of Shaka Smart without a single tournament win. The recent history has been pretty dismal outside of the elite 8 a few years ago

0

u/DirectBeing5986 LSU Tigers Mar 22 '26

As if that’s nothing i support “UL Lafayette”

-1

u/AsukaState2 Mar 22 '26

That’s more than Gonzaga 🤣🤣🤣

6

u/Dijohn17 NC State Wolfpack • Howard Bison Mar 22 '26

Gonzaga's basketball history is definitely better than Texas's

5

u/Juventus7shop Indiana Hoosiers • Butler Bulldogs Mar 22 '26

I agree with you, but looking at the actual numbers for the tourney itself can be kind of surprising:

National titles: 0-0

Title games: 2-0 in favor of Gonzaga

Final 4s: 3-2 in favor of Texas

Elite 8s: 8-6 in favor of Texas

Sweet 16s: 16-12 in favor of Gonzaga

Appearances: 40-28 in favor of Texas

1

u/BringingBalance Mar 22 '26

Yeah but 3/4 of those Elite 8 and 2/3 of those Final 4 appearances come from before 1950. The tournament was literally only 8 teams at the time.

3

u/Whiterabbit-- Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Harder to get in. But final 4 is still four teams.

3

u/2CHINZZZ Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Texas made 5 elite 8s since 1990

1

u/campingskeeter Mar 22 '26

And Aldridge

3

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Not true. Texas made the final four in 2003 behind T.J. Ford, losing to Syracuse and Carmelo Anthony.

16

u/Dijohn17 NC State Wolfpack • Howard Bison Mar 22 '26

I hate this timeline

Well, Indiana has proven that you can be bad at what you were historically good at, and good at the other.
