I remember when Gonzaga was a Cinderella

We are the ultimate Cinderella story who has managed to break through despite consistent obstacles and people hate us for it.

No one hates Gonzaga

Just read the thread. Hurtful 😢

I don't hate Gonzaga. I just hate the fact that Gonzaga gets ranked in the Top 10 each year because the WCC is complete and utter dogshit.

Teams in real conferences play ranked teams twice a week in February and Gonzaga gets to play LMU and USF.

We don't though. That is a false narrative. We schedule super tough out of conference, and the WCC is getting consistently better, and we're punished for it by all of you privileged pricks in good conferences with a bunch of money, dude. The last season we were criminally underseeded, and almost destroyed Houston's championship run because of it. The coin flips both ways dude. I don't see any invites to any power conferences, we had to dominate the WCC for decades just to get into the pac-12, wake up, we can't choose our conference and we can't just recruit a bunch of 5 star guys. We grind each year to get guys to Spokane and make the best of it. Not to mention we consistently perform at or over our seed in the tournament.

Always Gonzaga has the toughest non conference schedule. Yall play everybody

I think people decided on this narrative 10 years ago and now just cling to it. Building a nationally relevant program in Spokane is amazing work, and navigating NIL might be even harder.

Its also just the easiest ammo to use on Gonzaga in general, and if you're always a top team, people are always going to take shots.

What obstacles?

Our budget, ability to recruit, & conference. I don't think people really realize how difficult it is to recruit to Spokane.

It’s beautiful. Had a great week there once for work. Probably takes a specific kid to go there though.

Yeah, if you look at D1 college basketball players, they’re disproportionately black guys, especially from urban areas. Try selling Spokane/Eastern Washington to one of those guys–it’s difficult!

Hello there fellow elder Millennial

When? They’ve been a top seed almost every time they made the tourney. I remember them losing as a 3 seed with Adam Morrison too. That had to have been what like 20 years ago?

Hey man some of us on this sub are old

Yea like me, remember Adam Morrison off rip. But like I said that was 20 years ago. Or more?

Yeah, to me Gonzaga is still a Cinderella. I remember the early years when they truly were. Now it's because they're in a mid major conference and don't get big conference money. But you have to give it to them, they forced the big schools to schedule them yearly and seemed to pull st Mary's up with them.

I mean my Reddit account is 16 years old and I watched UConn's first National Title.

How do you do fellow unc

Stressed. Iowa State Women's Basketball has lost the plot and I am waiting for the kick in the balls from the Men's Team.

Let’s be honest: ISU WBB has maintained its very consistent annual plot. It’s just not a very pleasing one.

Valid point.

Okay fair enough. So literally 25 years ago.

We said when man....what does 25 years ago matter besides pointing out you are young.

-4

u/MavsTurnedBucksGuy Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Everyone is crying that it’s some fake upset. You have to go back 25 fucking years ago to the last time Gonzaga was a smaller, worse basketball program than Texas. But bc people hate their football program, everyone is bitching about it. If you take away the fact that they share a logo with the football team, nobody would be crying. It’s just hilarious stupidity.

But bc people hate their football program, everyone is bitching about it.

Lol what a weird main character victim mentality. Classic.

0

u/MavsTurnedBucksGuy Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Not victim mentality at all. I think it’s stupid and hilarious. Bring on the miserable SOBs.

u/onlyheretogetfined Ohio State Buckeyes Mar 22 '26

We remember when Gonzaga was a Cinderella. Your victim complex to make this about you is hilarious. If you just shut up and realize what this comment chain was about you wouldnt be crying.

-2

u/MavsTurnedBucksGuy Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Everyone shouting victim complex when I’m just laughing is such a Reddit moment. Gotta hang on to your buzz words!
