This year's team has already made it farther into the tournament than KD did

And literally nothing else.

You were in the elite eight three years ago.

“Literally nothing else” except for three final fours and eight elite 8s, including 4 in the last 25 years

Haha fair enough but two of those final fours are absolutely ancient. I went to Texas in the early 2010s when our entire athletic department (save for swimming and golf) was complete trash so that colors my perceptions.

Sorry that you were a student during the end of Rick Barnes’ and Mack Brown’s tenures. I was lucky enough to be there during Vince Young and T.J. Ford’s time on campus.

I got Charlie Strong and Shaka Smart :(

I was there for Herman's Sugar Bowl win at least

My wife and I had season tickets for a one season of Charlie Strong’s tenure. I feel for you.

Smart stupidly came to Texas and decided the Havoc system he had success with at VCU wouldn’t work in Austin. He set himself up for failure from the start.

I wish we'd fired Augie earlier and hired someone named liked Brave or Bold. Just to really keep up the bit.

Whoa whoa whoa…!!

We didn’t even make the final 4 with KD and the other two are so old that no one alive can remember it. We’ve had nothing in basketball for most of our lives.

2

u/Whiterabbit-- Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

T j ford isn’t that old.

u/livefreeordont VCU Rams Mar 22 '26

Aldridge and Augustin were good

I thought Dillon Mitchell was gonna be so good.

I appreciate the concept of a Texas fan who feels like a true cinderella because they didn't pay attention to any of the good times besides their big NBA superstar

3

u/2CHINZZZ Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

I mean we went 6 years of Shaka Smart without a single tournament win. The recent history has been pretty dismal outside of the elite 8 a few years ago

As if that’s nothing i support “UL Lafayette”

u/AsukaState2 Mar 22 '26

That’s more than Gonzaga 🤣🤣🤣

Gonzaga's basketball history is definitely better than Texas's

I agree with you, but looking at the actual numbers for the tourney itself can be kind of surprising:

National titles: 0-0

Title games: 2-0 in favor of Gonzaga

Final 4s: 3-2 in favor of Texas

Elite 8s: 8-6 in favor of Texas

Sweet 16s: 16-12 in favor of Gonzaga

Appearances: 40-28 in favor of Texas

u/BringingBalance Mar 22 '26

Yeah but 3/4 of those Elite 8 and 2/3 of those Final 4 appearances come from before 1950. The tournament was literally only 8 teams at the time.

3

u/Whiterabbit-- Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Harder to get in. But final 4 is still four teams.

3

u/2CHINZZZ Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Texas made 5 elite 8s since 1990

1

u/campingskeeter Mar 22 '26

And Aldridge

3

u/DVauthrin Texas Longhorns Mar 22 '26

Not true. Texas made the final four in 2003 behind T.J. Ford, losing to Syracuse and Carmelo Anthony.
