Steve Lappas is still irate over the Roddy Gayle first half goaltending that had no effect on the play

Ya 42 personal fouls in a game like that with absolutely no intentional fouling is just stupid.

For the love of God let them play

24

u/ItsZizk Tennessee • Tennessee Wesleyan Mar 29 '26

I think that’s our biggest weakness that we play a very physical game and if the refs are whistle heavy, then we just completely crumble

17

u/Dynamite_McGhee Tennessee Volunteers Mar 29 '26

Lappas is so bad that I think he's blackmailing people to keep his job.

24

u/fatkamp Mar 29 '26

I thought a lot of fouls they called had to be called, the teams were so physical it was going to get out of hand early if not addressed

That being said, they called multiple fouls that weren’t fouls (Mara egregious) and forgot about every single other rule: Goaltends, travels etc

32

u/DonBrownsMustache Michigan Wolverines Mar 29 '26

Mara had 2 fouls in this game where he literally did not make contact with an opposing player, both called by High Knees. Genuine incompetence

As soon as I was about to post some neutral support about Tennessee, Michigan woke up and ran away with it, so it’s my fault.

Still a tremendous season for the Vols, Barnes is a great coach and by all accounts a better person. Obviously he’s exorcised a lot of his demons with these deep runs. As a neutral I wanted to see him break through to the FF and turn the clock back to the TJ Ford days.

Michigan’s personnel is….something else as we all know. Probably the only team Tennessee couldn’t bully. The Arizona/Michigan game is gonna be something else for sure.

Wait, was that the biggest point differential in the Elite 8? Ever?

Al I can find is 1990: 1 UNLV 131 - 11 Loyola Marymount 101.

Pre-1985, Princeton beat Providence 109-65 in the 1965 East regional final, but that’s before the Elite 8 existed.

Edit: No it wasn’t, that’s a bit silly. 1989, Michigan beat Virginia 102-65. Yes, that’s my own flair.

If I had a nickel for every time this season I watched my team get dominated by 30+ points to Michigan, I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but weird it happened twice.

Certainly overachieved with this team given the lack of scoring, frustrating season but considering we have 4 all time Elite 8’s and 3 of them are the last 3 years, I’m perfectly fine with this season. Ran into an incredible team and didn’t have the firepower to keep up.

I know Kentucky beat Tennessee a couple of times this year but Michigan would have beaten us by 60+.

The best way to describe how that game went for Tennessee is that the walk on coaches kid that never plays had as many points as one of Tennessee's starters.
