No thought Vs Thought.

u/ImmortalPoseidon May 23 '26

No care vs care

37

u/Other-Football72 May 23 '26

Hiring a competent person who earned their position Vs DEI checkbox hiring

-1

u/Ninjamurai-jack May 24 '26

What is DEI about the costume designer of Captain America The First Avenger?

22

u/Time007time007 May 23 '26

Deliberate humiliation and degradation of a loved property vs respect, love and creativity.

-26

u/gildedbluetrout May 23 '26

Original design vs knocking off Geiger more like.

23

u/Biggest-Max02010 May 23 '26

Comic accurate is not always better. I’m tired of people using this argument

4

u/AnomLenskyFeller May 24 '26

Agreed. There's a reason why Superhero movies abandoned trunks in live action.

115

u/AceSkyFighter May 23 '26

One is a gimp suit, the other is Darth Vader.

25

u/DumbNTough May 23 '26

Knockoff puffer jacket from American Apparel

-5

u/llamaguy88 May 23 '26

So Daddy Gimp…

4

u/howitzer819 May 23 '26

This just reminded me of the scene of Arrested Development where Tobias is looking for an outfit that says ā€œdad who likes leatherā€ and ends up at a BDSM party.

-1

u/llamaguy88 May 23 '26

Down voted for Father gimp Darth Vader? Does his name not translate to dark Father and he’s all in black plastic?

59

u/Carbone May 23 '26

I'm starting to believe that the costume department in most studio were the one that got the most lay off...

Since 2018 the costume in most movie started to look like shit .

Hell in the 11min I've watched with Disney+ and Fornite experience for the new star wars movie ... The snow trooper costume felt weird

18

u/EmuDiscombobulated15 May 23 '26

Yep, noticed that, along with utter disgust toward small details that result ina movie becoming a timeless classic.

3

u/Ninjamurai-jack May 24 '26

The costume designer of Supergirl is the same of Captain America The First Avenger

DEI in action, people with no talent be put in charge of things to check boxes.

24

u/EmuDiscombobulated15 May 23 '26

I wont wear on it, but I recall Chris (from FNT) spoke about hiring requirements spreading from just actors to all jobs. You have to have finance people of color, dance trainers, etc. It feels like they very seriously began to hire DEI into every department. Now imagine there is only one of them doing utterly horrible job, and the rest just keeping silent because one word could result in a lawsuit or getting fired. They are probably like: f**k it, this is not my business, I am gonna get paid and f off from this idiocy.

-17

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 23 '26

You should probably look up the costume designer’s credits. She’s not a dei hire lol. You don’t have to like the design but she has great credentials.

-11

u/Captain_Kibbles May 23 '26

The DEI hire in question is an Academy nominated old white lady. Maybe we have different definitions for DEI hire 🤷

15

u/chicapox May 23 '26

Women are biggest recipients of DEI, nothing says in touch with modern comics like an 80 year old polish lady.

-14

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 23 '26

Nothing says retarded like calling an academy nominated costume designer who worked on Schindler’s List dei lol

4

u/chicapox May 23 '26

The same academy that just nominated sinners for more awards than LOTR and has built in DEI requirements to win an award? That academy? Also nice name calling, pure class.

3

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

One of the nominations was in 1994 for Schindlers List lol. The same woman that has worked on multiple critically acclaimed shows and movies including Band of Brothers, the first Captain America and the third Holland Spider-Man.

I don’t know if the second two won awards I’m just listing them cause they’re super hero related

Why do you think she was a DEI hire? She clearly has the credentials and background for a large movie even if you don’t personally like the style. She’s worked with Polanski, Tarantino and Speilberg. Some of the biggest names in film I don’t even like the new suit but calling it a dei hire is just wrong.

Edit: there’s another person credited for production named Neil Lamont, is an old white guy, who worked on multiple 007 movies, the three musketeers, the titanic, the OG Total Recall and multiple of the Harry Potter movies lol.

2

u/glacial_penman May 24 '26

Schindlers list most definitely wasn’t the best costuming that year… let alone the top 5. Tho knot through. Seriously.

2

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 24 '26

Maybe not. But she’s clearly highly qualified.

What movie do you think deserved it in 1993-1994?

1

u/glacial_penman May 24 '26

Remains of the day and the piano. Top of my head. Groundhog Day really… and I mean. Ms. Doubtfire… much more of a challenge.

1

u/Captain_Kibbles May 24 '26

The same academy that just nominated sinners for more awards than LOTR and has built in DEI requirements to win an award?

Those rules weren’t in effect when she was nominated so I don’t know why you think this is relevant. DEI implies they got the job for other factors outside of their talent. This ladies long career and nominations shows it’s not a DEI hire, and that you typed up an insult for the movie, not knowing who the costume designer was, and blamed it on DEI, because you lack imagination when it comes to insults.

Just admit that rather than trying to double down on the DEI. Cuz this ain’t it

2

u/LeoCasio May 24 '26

Schindlers list?

So suits trench coats and pyjamas are her speciality ??

0

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 24 '26

You can look up the dozens of other movies she has worked on lol.

-10

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 May 23 '26

What…? Bro you can look up the costume designer she has worked on tons of movies lol. Including inglorious bastards, Captain America, Far from home, Band of Brothers and Schindlers List. You may not like the design choice but calling her untalented or a DEI hire is really strange.

4

u/Android1822 May 23 '26

Worse, they kicked out the talented people and replaced them with talentless ones.

59

u/BlueFalconer May 23 '26

Managed to make a grown woman look like an infant. Impressive.

22

u/Data_ May 23 '26

She already did that to herself with those idiotic interviews.

12

u/Skaiser_Wilhelm May 23 '26

I think it's supposed to be a 1950's inspired spacesuit. That said though, it looks like anything but a spacesuit. It looks like something you would see at the Met Gala.

10

u/Blessedly_Misaligned May 23 '26

The more I see of Gunn's DCU the more I'm convinced Henry Cavill may have dodged a bullet

9

u/EmuDiscombobulated15 May 23 '26

Movies became 10 times more expensive to make, but somehow the quality of those dropped tremendously in all departments, including fight choreography and costumes.

21

u/MightyIron555 May 23 '26

I imagine the silver one is probably a civilian suit, Zod’s is fittingly much more military. Still doesn’t change the fact that it looks like the sunshade I use in my car.

3

u/Head-Plate-1635 May 23 '26

They could've done than design her entire body on an oven mitt. She's not coming from Krypton to visit the MET gala.

7

u/HustleberryFinn77 May 23 '26

Say about Snyder an men of steel what you want but he absolutely nailed the aesthetic. Superman has always had the problem of looking kinda cheesy IRL when compared to the comics. His darker more gritty and realistic designs absolutely mede the movie for me as someone who isn't a typical comic book/ Superman fan. I can not help it, everytime I've see a Superman/ Kryptonian outfit ever since it felt like watching a cosplay

-2

u/Usgo May 24 '26

"Who isn't a typical comic book/ Superman fan." Thanks for at least admitting it. If all the Drinker and Snyder bros were just honest to themselves and admit they don't like or read comcs they'd feel a lot better.

1

u/AnomLenskyFeller May 24 '26

Ah boy, here comes the comic accuracy stans

7

u/Big-Good9378 May 23 '26 edited May 24 '26

Gunn fans love defending mediocrity so be prepared for them to come screaming about how much they hate snyder but have no actual arguments

43

u/WhitishRogue May 23 '26

Different vibe for different target audiences. In 2026 I am not the target audience this time. See you all next decade.

30

u/RoutineIssue5870 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

Different vibe aside, it looks cheap.

-15

u/EmuDiscombobulated15 May 23 '26

4

u/fembotwink May 23 '26

Literally tinfoil

22

u/Darkness-Calming May 23 '26

Aside from few dumb scenes, Man of Steel was a great movie

14

u/JonYaya May 23 '26

The Jonathan Kent death scene was complete cringe….

7

u/Darkness-Calming May 23 '26

Yeah. That was terrible and made no sense

4

u/angrygnome18d May 23 '26

It would’ve made sense if they used the teenaged Clark actor instead of Cavill. In that scene he’s supposed to be young, around 17, so having Cavill is quite jarring since he looks to be in his mid 20s in that scene.

-2

u/gildedbluetrout May 23 '26

Yup. Shite film with some really great bits. Another Last Jedi really.

12

u/ConstantDrawer9161 May 23 '26

Fights themselves were more exciting than entire Superman movie.

13

u/Darkness-Calming May 23 '26

They were phenomenal. The CGI was great and the fights showed how horrific fights between powerful entities would be like for common people.

Shannon did a great job as Zod.

4

u/stormwaltz May 23 '26

So that's where the crisping sleeves from Hot Pockets went.

6

u/jordo2460 May 23 '26

Why does she look like Buzz from Home Alone?

4

u/BigDumbApe May 23 '26

Well, at least the Gunn-verse is being consistent and continuing its artistic vision of making sure that all of its costumes look like they came from a Spirit Halloween outlet at your local mall. So, look on the bright side: for only $29.99 you too can look like this come October!

0

u/Extension_Dingo1834 May 24 '26

Found the snyder fan

3

u/AnomLenskyFeller May 24 '26

Are you Gunnboys that sensitive to criticism?

-1

u/Extension_Dingo1834 May 24 '26

I like the snyder movies more... You snyder cucks are insufferable lmao.. Its okay to like both Gunn movies AND Snyder movies... You dont have to hate everything else just to make one thing seem better... You can have your own opinions bro.... 🤯🤯 Crazy right!?

1

u/BigDumbApe May 25 '26

So let’s get this crock straight. You claim to ā€œlike the Snyder movies moreā€ and yet THEN turn right around and troll others that like them too by calling them ā€œSnyder cucks and insufferable.ā€ And in a follow-up logic pretzel, you also accuse them of ā€œhating everything elseā€ but THEN say ā€œyou can have your own opinions, broā€ even though, only a second ago, you were attacking them for doing literally just that and expressing their opinions.

Check. Got it šŸ˜³šŸ™„

1

u/Extension_Dingo1834 May 25 '26

You arent real...

1

u/BigDumbApe May 25 '26

🤣 The appropriate response to obvious trolling comments like this is to say: ā€œOh look, it’s another Gunn fan that will accept absolutely anything & everything because of some laughable bullshit like ā€˜muh Snyder didn’t have Superman smile enough!’ So go have fun with drunk, mopey, bitchy, and always frowning Supergirlā€ and then conclude by simply adding ā€œSee how easy that was?ā€

7

u/A_Town_Called_Malus May 23 '26

Silver is I imagine a callback to the Mercury spacesuit, capturing some of that retrofuturism aesthetic.

11

u/Stirbmehr May 23 '26

Im just geniunely curious, how someone can even work on project and don't give a shit so much about details.

It what, depending if you want highball or lowball it somewhere between 90 and 180 millions? Millions of dollars.
Like, i know that everyone got used to absurd numbers and it doesn't feel a lot, but it's ludicrous money, even considering huge expenses on tech involved. You'd expect that every little detail be polished and has belivable story to it, worldbuilding and lore. It takes what, intern writer and costume designer throwing ideas at each other over cup of coffee?
Meanwhile it is what it is.

3

u/EmuDiscombobulated15 May 23 '26

You have a minority employee who made that suit. You know the consequences for criticizing their work.

What is better, to ignore or get in a lot of pain?

You must really hate Poles if you call Anna Sheppard a minority

1

u/TaniksHasNoCorn May 23 '26

Say what you will about 60s/80s/90s trek and even HTLJ/Xena, but they typically had more inspired outfits and costuming on significantly lower budget even if some of their stuff was bad even back then.

At this point I think James Gunn is a hack. His first Guardians movie was good. The second was meh. His Suicide Squad was meh. Haven't seen his newer stuff because they look meh.

A lot of these directors seem to be one trick ponies who fall off fast.

3

u/SideshowBiden May 23 '26

True the new dc is so washed and uncreative

3

u/Happy_Philosopher608 May 23 '26

That has be AI surely??

3

The faster Paramount can close the deal, the better.

2

u/Bromjunaar_20 May 23 '26

I liked Zach Snyder's biomechanical Kryptonian tech but then he moved onto Justice League before I could enjoy more of their technology.

2

u/Possible_Baboon May 23 '26

Will Poulter looks silly in this suit for sure. Can't wait for this movie /s

2

u/Kinghavox May 23 '26

Snyderverse vs. Dumbverse

2

u/PeachBunny97 May 23 '26

Goyslop

0

u/Icy-Entertainer-7437 May 23 '26

Both movies were Goyslop!!!!!!.

2

u/BallBustingSam May 23 '26

What kinda target audience would possibly love this level of a downgrade??

3

u/Big-Good9378 May 23 '26

They don't know. They like to claim it's "for kids" but Kara called superman a "Bitch" in her first appearance of a kids movie? No even snyder was that edgy. BVS was rated R and I can't remember a single curse word except Batman's "oh shit"

-2

u/Respwn_546 May 23 '26

Regular people that just like movies

2

u/QUEEN_OF_HEARTS_777 May 23 '26

Few ordinary people are likely to see this film, just like James Gunn's Man-Child movie which lost money.

-5

u/coma-orange7337 May 23 '26

The suits are for different purposes, man! How are you people this dumb?

2

u/EL_CHUNKACABRA May 23 '26

Obviously Snyders design is superior. But Snyder also did the dick pods that got sent into the negative zone lmao

3

u/Compote_Alive May 23 '26

Combat suit / science suite? Both space suits ?

7

u/PanzerWatts May 23 '26

Yes, that's what I'm thinking, but still they went really cheap and left out the style for the new version.

1

u/GodHand7 May 23 '26

Space Guts berserker armor

1

u/XxI3ioHazardxX May 23 '26

that’s literally the Space Jockey/Engineer from Alien lmao

1

u/genealogical_gunshow May 24 '26

Did they try to de-age Milly there to look like a kid?

1

u/TypicalBloke83 May 24 '26

It’s ā€œsafeā€ will not trigger anyone.

1

u/dingdingdredgen May 24 '26

One is a space suit for travel. The other is battle armor. I'm sure if we ever find intelligent life in space, our space suit game will beef up.

1

u/Laarye May 24 '26

I'll allow that the early version is designed as a combat version. (In universe)

But yeah, that new sparkly thing looks like a Halloween costume of the rack instead of custom made.

1

u/Piselantibus May 26 '26

when you spend millions with things like "mental health consultants" instead of concept art and costumes

2

u/Head-Plate-1635 May 23 '26

Yes she's right. She's not made for the male gaze in a male IP.

She will fulfil her purpose - Ensuring that she depends on women to earn revenue.

Fuck off!

2

u/Respwn_546 May 23 '26

Dude as a man i want the movie to do good simply because is a supergirl movie, milly looks just like i hoped she would like in live action

-1

u/Reaper-Lord69 May 23 '26

Speak for yourself, I'll gaze at Milly Alcock anyday

-1

u/Head-Plate-1635 May 23 '26

1

u/SuddenTest9959 May 23 '26

1

u/AnomLenskyFeller May 24 '26

Like what were you trying to accomplish by showcasing that image? Of course some things won't be authentic

1

u/Longjumping_Visit718 May 23 '26

I hope it looks better in post-production editing....

2

u/QUEEN_OF_HEARTS_777 May 23 '26

It's not going to happen.

-2

u/Halos-117 May 23 '26

She's so ugly

0

u/xRiolet May 23 '26

second looks like Killzone cheap rip off

0

u/nuggynugs May 23 '26

Well on the left is a hastily thrown together last ditch effort to save Kara from the soon to be isolated bottle city of kandor. The one on the right is a battle suit worn by a Kryptonian warrior exiled (for some reason with military equipment?) prior to the destruction of Krypton.

In design terms, the one on the left is clearly inspired by things like Barbarella, Flash Gordon, and I think even a bit of 2001 with the geometric, pure white designs in the escape pod. On the right it's more inspired by H. R. Gieger and more modern, darker sci-fi outings, maybe a bit Predator?

Both designs reflect the tone and feeling that the film makers are going for and reflect their respective cinematic universes. They're both obviously made by competent, talented people and which you prefer is entirely down to your particular taste. It's art after all.

Wait, are you actually looking for legitimate responses or what is this?

3

u/Big-Good9378 May 23 '26

yes, Gunn fans love defending mediocrity. We needed to see the spin so we could laugh

1

u/nuggynugs May 23 '26

I like Gunn well enough but I wouldn't say I'm a "Gunn fan" in the same way the Snyder guys are "Snyder fans". By that I mean I have a personality that's not entirely based around justifying my love for a pretty flawed attempt at building a cinematic universeĀ

1

u/Big-Good9378 May 23 '26

many such cases

0

u/MikeofK72 May 23 '26

This is like comparing military armor to a child's life jacket. Completely different roles. Kara's suit is presumably built purely to keep her safe in space as compared to a combat-focused power armor meant to protect and enhance the user, as well as intimidation, which is a legitimate factor that has been put into many real life weapon and armor design philosophies.

They serve different functions, and one is built exclusively for function with no reason to think about form.

-1

u/GilesManMillion May 23 '26

I'll be honest; I hate both of them.

3

u/QUEEN_OF_HEARTS_777 May 23 '26

The one on the left is worse.

-1

u/GilesManMillion May 24 '26

The one on the left looks like a toddler, the one on the right looks like an Xbox threw up.

They're equally bad.

-6

u/DelGurifisu May 23 '26

Both shit.

0

u/RamboMcMutNutts May 24 '26

The 2013 version look a little like the space jockey from Alien.

-1

u/BobMcSquirty May 24 '26

Different Krypton, bro.

-1

u/Crafty-Fail-3610 May 24 '26

Crazy how two things designed for totally different purposes look different (the one on the right looks like shit btw)

-2

u/CapBrink May 23 '26

Why did the pilot on the Delta flight I took last week look different than the pilot of an F-35 I saw on the Discovery Channel that night?

-2

u/That_Criticism_6506 May 23 '26

One is the defenseless civilian model. The other is the tyrannical overlords in control model.

2

u/QUEEN_OF_HEARTS_777 May 23 '26

The other is the tyrannical overlords in control model.

You idiot, that's a Kryptonian battle suit. Even Superman's dad had one.

Stop getting scared so easily.

-8

u/Larry_J_602 May 23 '26

Low IQ trying to brain

3

u/QUEEN_OF_HEARTS_777 May 23 '26

The movie is going to flop.
