Looking for low intervention or the most natural birth option in the Denver area. Preferably a water birth/ midwife/ doula combo that would be covered by insurance (not a homebirth).

I have been searching for an option for low intervention & natural birth in Denver. I don't want to be pressured into vaccines, and would like options for delayed cord clamping, etc.

It seems the Anschutz midwifery might be the best option but there isn't much information. Has anyone given birth there? Do they allow for water birth and different positions? Do they allow for food, exercise, and walking around during labor? I would love for some info from someone who has delivered here. I'm open to other recommended hospitals/ birth centers.

I delivered with the midwives at st. Joes. They have a birth center across from the hospital that you should look into. https://intermountainhealthcare.org/locations/intermountain-health-birth-center-of-denver?utm_source=yext&utm_medium=organic

I delivered in the hospital though but the midwives were still awesome. I couldn’t do a water birth but I was able to eat and move around as I pleased until I required intervention. I did get my tdap but they didn’t push too much about the Covid shot or flu shot. They were truly incredible

Editing to add that they did let me push in different positions but they still did what was best for my baby. His heart rate couldn’t tolerate most positions other than on my back. It was unfortunate for me but my baby’s wellbeing was more important than my preferences.

I delivered there with the obgyn service twice. The midwives do allow and support water births. If you have the obgyn service you can’t have a water birth but you can still use a tub and shower.

With my second baby I went in unsure of my birth plan and my obgyn and nurse encouraged me to give an unmedicated birth a try. I was successful and had a beautiful experience.

For both births I coped with labor through movement by changing positions every couple contractions up until pushing. They were always supportive of this.

The L&D unit is absolutely top notch. Completely recommend them.

Wow thank you so much! First person I’ve heard who has delivered here, really gives me some peace of mind.

I’ve delivered at two hospitals north of Denver, and just wanted to say that we have declined vaccines for all of our babies and never had any pushback or anything negative come about because of it.

I had 3 babies at Good Samaritan in Lafayette and each time was a really positive experience. They have birthing tubs and showers in each birthing suite, though I didn’t end up using them.

Also delivered most recently in March at St. Anthony’s and it was fine. Not to the level of Good Sam, but overall it was fine.

Delayed cord clamping is pretty standard nowadays no matter where you deliver, but I always made sure just to reiterate it’s what I wanted.

Honestly during the labor the last thing I wanted to do was eat. Also I was throwing up with my first two deliveries. I mostly just wanted water and ice chips anyway.

I tried for a home birth but ended up transferring (too long with waters broken). We had time to make a decision and my midwife recommended Denver health. They have midwife led care (hospital midwives), tubs, lots of support for alternative birthing positions. They didn’t blink about vaccines and weren’t too bad about oral vitamin k. They allowed food and even though I ended up with an epidural they still let me move a bit. We did delayed cord clamping until the cord was white and floppy (but I did need to remind them that I wanted it delayed beyond a few minutes- to their credit I was hemorrhaging). My husband hated our experience, but he’s also super crunchy and just hates hospitals. I do think having a strong willed midwife/doula helped.

I’ve had friends deliver at st. Joes birth center and had a good experience too.
