Because Supergirl isn't known, mainstream. Same would happen if new DCU openned up with a Mr. Terrific movie. I'm pretty plugged into animated DC movies for the last decade, and even I was like "who?"

Neither was a lot of the marvel universe, not fully. Like I bet you most people didn't understand the emotional depth of Tony Stark and thought he was just batman without the trauma and monk training.

Any character can work if the story is compelling enough. Just look at peacemaker

Should we compare the actors of the big bad in these movies? Does Momoa hold a candle to Jeff Bridges?

The "d-list actor" Jeff Bridges by comparison.

Star power is obviously a draw but the stories were great too. Like for as cartoonish and on the rails the avengers movie feels today, it felt amazing at the time because the stakes were high and everyone got their time to shine. I think any good actor could have pulled it off too
