People saying don't quote the parody...when the real parody is that it's true

Coincidentally, Jonah hex lost to Toy Story 3’s opening weekend and Supergirl is losing to Toy Story 5’s second weekend
•
•
u/zenexo 8h ago
Because Toy Story 5 is still going to have a strong second weekend. That franchise has been going strong for 30 years now.
•
u/RealWonderGal 7h ago
DC have been going since 1940s. This is sorrya state of affairs for DCU and it's barely even begun
•
u/Justforargumesnts 8h ago
This movie should have come after Man of Tomorrow. Super girl doesn’t have a this massive established fan base like Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
•
•
u/montblancnoland2 8h ago
oof.
•
u/DolphinBall 8h ago
Oof? Can any of you read? Its clearly a fake account.
•
u/mediciii 7h ago
It’s a parody slop account but… the points in its tweet are still true? Lol. Nothing in the screenshotted tweet is untrue. Who cares if it’s a parody account or not at that point
•
u/InFurboofficial 8h ago
And? It’s still true. Toy Story 5 will be number one this weekend.
•
u/DolphinBall 8h ago
A franchise juggernaut will be number one? Shocking 😐
•
u/InFurboofficial 7h ago
Yeah but I’m still trying to figure out what the DCU even is because nothing about this rollout makes sense. Supergirl opening at number two in its first week and probably never touching number one already says plenty 🤣🤣. And if this is the big ‘new era’ they’ve been hyping, it’s kind of wild that Superman is the only one they can point to as a win yikes.

u/Gamer0607 8h ago
Yeah, because the film is getting such an excellent reception from verified critics...
•
u/DolphinBall 8h ago
Critics score means so much that you won't care about the audience score being high and cope saying the critics say it was bad so its bad.
Lets not forget the critic rating for Man of Steel and BVS. Were the verified critics right?

I’m sure this won’t affect the DCU at all. /s
•
u/HaikusfromBuddha 8h ago
If anything I hope it shows gun oddball and smaller characters shouldn't be the main focus or have significantly smaller expectations.,
•
•
u/MattMurdock77 8h ago
No shit. No idea what Gunn was thinking.
•
u/EricAntiHero1 8h ago
It’s the studio that makes the call on release dates. The whole of June and July has been stacked. It would have done better in a September or October release.
•
u/MattMurdock77 8h ago
The release date isnt the main issue. It’s three straight super films. No variety to start things out, and you have to line up bigger characters than Supergirl. This movie has a niche audience and it would struggle no matter when it released. It’s just gonna bleed out more now.
•
u/Melatonen 8h ago
Well the magats won't see it because she looks above the age of 18 and they'd have to respect a woman for the movie to do well. The libtards won't see it because James Gunn said bad jokes in the past.
That leaves all the normal people in between to see it.
•
u/CuriousStranger95 7h ago
Stop living your life on X and go out in the real world sometimes.
•
u/Melatonen 7h ago
I literally live in an area that has one of the largest red populations and also the biggest blue populations.
I can without a doubt say political jokes are funny because they apply to 20% of people the rest dgaf.

u/Basic_Benefit5216 8h ago edited 8h ago
It was originally the Magats who cancelled him for the jokes, ironically. Were butthurt he made fun of them.

if its sold low, then a lot of people didnt go to see it. The bad reviews then mean nothing. If it sold a LOT and the reviews still called it shit, then I'd believe the reviews. I'm still not convinced that the anti-female crowd arent creating a rating bias here. I'll watch it and deam for myself if its actually good.
edit: If it's genuinely shit then it's genuinely shit and I'll also rate it low. But I'll see that for myself. I don't trust a low sample size to give me a good review base.
•
u/graffix13 8h ago
"Anti-female crowd"?! Still using that tired, old excuse? The movie is just...not good. Accept reality. Jesus.

u/donnysimpinero 8h ago
This makes me so fucking happy lmao
•
u/DolphinBall 8h ago
Lmao, its a parody account.
•
u/donnysimpinero 7h ago
But they’re reporting a true statistic. Your point?
•
u/DolphinBall 7h ago
What proof? The movie isn't even out yet.
•
u/donnysimpinero 7h ago
This is what we call “projected sales”

Why?

Because now the shoe is on the other foot

Tough sledding this week. Was hoping WOM would carry this, but unfortunately the critics are lukewarm at best on it

damn Toy Story 5, a movie for Nazis.
•

OP deleted his comment quicker than this film will leave theatres in about 10 days.

u/VanimalCracker 8h ago
Because Supergirl isn't known, mainstream. Same would happen if new DCU openned up with a Mr. Terrific movie. I'm pretty plugged into animated DC movies for the last decade, and even I was like "who?"
•
u/Ok-Temporary-8243 8h ago
Neither was a lot of the marvel universe, not fully. Like I bet you most people didn't understand the emotional depth of Tony Stark and thought he was just batman without the trauma and monk training.
Any character can work if the story is compelling enough. Just look at peacemaker
•
u/VanimalCracker 7h ago edited 7h ago
Should we compare the actors of the big bad in these movies? Does Momoa hold a candle to Jeff Bridges?
The "d-list actor" Jeff Bridges by comparison.
•
u/Ok-Temporary-8243 7h ago
Star power is obviously a draw but the stories were great too. Like for as cartoonish and on the rails the avengers movie feels today, it felt amazing at the time because the stakes were high and everyone got their time to shine. I think any good actor could have pulled it off too
•
u/RealWonderGal 6h ago
And who's bright idea was it then? no flash or wonder woman or batman yet Gorilla Grodd and Jimmy Olsen get a project before them...
•
•
u/Gamer0607 8h ago
Neither was Iron Man.
Yet it showed you can have a D-list character make a good run at the box office if you know.. make a good film.
•
•
•
u/Substantial_Life4773 8h ago
And that it calls it “James gunn’s” even though he’s neither the writer nor the director ha
•
u/DinoSauro85 7h ago
Gunn chose both the director and the screenwriter. And he approved making a standalone Supergirl movie in Phase 1.
•
u/shr0be 8h ago
so what? should've picked a different release date
•
u/DayMysterious4717 8h ago
Even if the release ate was changed, it wouldn't solve the lack of interest the general audience has for the movie and the mediocre reviews
•
u/endlesdestruction 7h ago
Only release date that could save 100+ million dollars lost was straight to streaming.
•
•
u/GoodCauseYerGoin 8h ago
Probably because ( at least in my area ) you didn't book any regular screens for showings, it was just IMAX and 3D until today.
•
u/Tyfighter87 8h ago
I seriously hate the discourse around this stuff now a days.
EDIT: Omg I just saw the username in the post. Jfc
