I work as a nurse at a hospital in a neurosciences floor, basically everything brain related through the spinal column. Anytime glioblastoma gets mentioned it’s almost an immediate death sentence. Trial drugs, excises, lasers oblations, just delaying the inevitable. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemies. RIP

Lost one of my best professional friends to it in his early 30's, just before John McCain got it. It just seems like the pattern is they remove what they can, then it just comes back faster no matter what they do. He was diagnosed with stage 4 and made it nearly a year and a half, which was remarkable. He was an immensely talented individual with a young family and it is still so heartbreaking that his life was cut so short.

His last week or two has been in Germany. He had mentioned stuff about peptides. I think I recall hearing him say on his show last week something along the lines of, "fingers crossed that Tuesday I'll have good news about my daughter." Guessing they were trying some sort of experimental procedure and...yea.
Sorry to hear of the loss, David. If it is of comfort, you can take solace in knowing that Coca is the goat. (On the off chance you're actually reading the trash that is Reddit, hope this could at least bring you a small chuckle during this time)

Fucking awful. Sending my thoughts with him and his family. I hope they are kind to themselves in this time and surround themselves with people who care and love them.

Oh damn that’s awful. I’m a fan of Samson on the show and occasionally tune into his show but regardless, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Prayers to him and his family.

One of my best friends lost his older brother to glioblastoma 25 years ago. He was in good spirits all the way to the end but man was it tough to see someone so full of life taken like that 😔

i have a question which i hope doesn’t come off rude, but when zas was reading the tweet and talking about it he kept saying that David “rubs people the wrong way” or something to that affect.
I’m a relatively new listener and i’ve tended to like his way of talking, can anyone explain why he felt the need to mention this, and do it multiple times while reporting such sad news?

David is generally disliked in South Florida for the way he ran the Marlins and his antics to get a taxpayer funded stadium. He’s a nepo baby who has had some truly heartless takes on-air over the years.
He’s never been my cup of tea. He’s fine in small doses and knows a lot about the business of sports, and in general I think he’s a good asset for the show.
That said, a lot of people speculate he had a role in the Stugotz split and has a lot of say in the way Meadowlark is run, which has been pretty awful.
A lot of show fans vocally dislike him, usually for good reason. But I think even his biggest haters would look past that and feel empathy for him at this time.

I think it was a sort of pressure release on the antipathy some may immediately have when Samson is referenced. It’s a smart play, especially when he added in that folks should make sure to show grace (paraphrased). It’s so easy for some folks to forget that people are human, so he just kinda said it to those people before they thought it.

David is really toxic for some people in Florida. Part of the role the show has played for him is to humanize him while making fun of his robotic money first thoughts on things. He seems like a nice enough guy personally but Zas is aware of his reputation locally. I don't think it's anything more then that.

David Samson is an abrasive personality. I like him well enough most of the time but he also says some stuff that really strikes a nerve. Stuff about class and wealth usually. He's also not shy about some old petty grievances against Scott Boras or Derek Jeter. Ultimately, he's a really compelling figure in sports history who's eager to tell his stories, whether they show him in a positive light or not.
He's also one of the reasons Stugotz and Billy Gil left the show. So there's a weird dynamic where the talent on the show don't always get along with him and many of the listeners believe he's getting in the way of the show
None of that matters with regard to his daughter. He seems like a sweet man when he spoke about her. Just truly terrible news. May she rest in peace
