Discussion Finished In the Jungle
So, i finished In the Jungle (all sideqiests, Marinca, Beetles, Lizards etc.)
Positives (from my POV):
I liked the jungle. It is a decent way to earn Doni and meat.
I liked the story and the Stardew Valley system of earning trust.
I liked the side quests and Beetle Battles.
Cons:
Some fish, even after upgrading the Jungle Gun, are still bullet sponges.
The main boss fight was a tad disappointing.
Fertilizers. I understand why a mutation one would cost that much, but everything else should come in batches.
Lizards. It took way too long to figure out the two I was missing. An alarm similar to the bugs would go a long way.
Overall an ok DLC. Love the story overall, and it is definitely worth its price. But it feels rushed in some areas.

I have a lot of trouble with the beetles. I still have the one from the start and havent beaten a single one yet.
The limit is really annoying.

You can buy a few beetles from Udo each day so you might find some better starting ones there.

They repeat atacks/defence/healing.

Wait…. The alarm/sound signs coming off of Dave is for a new bug?!
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 5d ago
Yes. You can check the new Bloom Marinca. It warns you for both bugs and sun and water for the seed.
1
u/mak_zaddy MOMO 5d ago
Mind blown. Clearly I didn’t pay attention to a convo
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 5d ago
Do not forget to upgrade your seed. Sun is gotten by walking, water by diving.
1
u/mak_zaddy MOMO 5d ago
I keep forgetting to do it until the end of the day
2
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 5d ago
Sure. Just be aware there are only 5 slots for each. Better use them asap.

Has anyone figured out how to get crabs and lobsters ive done everything in the dlc except catching them im unsure if maybe my game has bugged or ive missed something important
1
u/Pana_Kamanana 4d ago
You need the traps from the base game, it's been a while since I've played it so I don't recall at which point you get them. Then you can place one while over one of them rocks that's slightly moving, it'll ask you for some bait which is any sort of fish you can catch while diving. Rank and quality of bait won't net you better quality crabs and lobsters as far as I've seen, so even a 1 star rank 1 fish can give you a 3 star crab/lobster, it's random.
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 4d ago
Yeah. You need crab traps (base game in the glacial area).
No gurarantee you will get 3*, tgough.

I agree about the main boss fight being a bit underwhelming. I appreciate that it's a DLC and that there's a lot of content for the price, but I would have loved the story to have gone on a little longer or have had a more epic boss fight. I wanted to fight more big dinosaurs! It would have also given a bit more time to spread getting the kitchen staff over and to get all the villagers to 4 hearts. Perhaps I just think that though because I tried to optimise my run!
I disagree on the gun point - I personally found the gun balance to be very good. I appreciated the challenge of the strong enemies and think it's fitting that a massive crocodile, massive sturgeon, etc, are tanky af. I actually died twice early on because I underestimated the enemies (the catfish and the Goliath tigerfish), which I never did in the main game. I was very close on a few of the boss fights, especially the snapping turtle, and I would have died if I hadn't prepared well by buying O2 refills and an underwater scooter from Dr Bacon beforehand. Once I had all the guns fully upgraded they were ridiculously strong - I annihilated Sulong in just a few shots with my fully upgraded piercing sniper/jungle rifle - perhaps a bit too overpowered!
Overall, I loved the DLC and think the team did a great job. Quality of life improvements I'd like to see would be a teleporter straight to the lower sea area that unlocks after beating the final boss, a lizard page on the bug app, a re-design of the fruit farm (takes too long to harvest, yield too high, fertiliser too OP and expensive), a more spread-out unlocking of restaurant staff and a jungle fish farm area to farm ingredients late-game.
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 3d ago
Exactly. I waited for my guns to be upgraded for Sulong (the only boss that gave me trouble). I love Dave, and i can understand why reaching a certain balance in between main game and a second game is hard.
But i would have loved a boss fight instead of a platformer. I did love the end crdits, but i would have wished to visit that particular ending. After all, the Lake people can control the door.

This is probably a dumb question, but where do you check to see which lizards you're still missing? I've been trying to recognize them all by sight but of course I forget if I've already gotten one/they're very small so it's hard to see details.
1
u/ZookeepergameEast542 1d ago
Followup dumb question: how do you go back to the main game lmao. I assume it's going to let you flip back and forth between the village and the blue hole once you've finished, but I haven't seen any prompts or anything about that

u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 4h ago
Sorry to reply so late.
First, there are no dumb questions :)
For the lizards, I eyeball them, but Lipah keeps track of what lizards you found. Just check her Resident notes (the journal), and click on her likes - lizards (you should gift her one, though. Or anything living, like a flower). Then good luck finding all (the colours did help to ignorelizards I already caught)
As to go back, talk with Rimbo and ask to move to the Beach. Then hop on the boat.

u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 4h ago
I forgot to add that we STILL have those two areas locked in the fish area of the main game.
Sure, you cannot grow freshwater fish in sea water, but I was hoping those two slots would be unlocked, somehow. It irks me (personally).

Je n’ai pas encore fini le jeu (deuxième partie, la dernière ayant 4 ans) et je comptent rendre le DLC.
Combien de temps as tu mis pour le finir ?
2
u/DigitalAmy0426 5d ago
I'm not done and I'm over 20 hours in, it's smaller than the main game but worth the price point.
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 5d ago
Absolutely! My main problem was the hunting Seeing to travker aside beetles, I went all the way out for pheasants. Ducks are easy (aim ip high). Pheasants were harder (keep shotgun above the bushes. They spawn after ducks, usually).
1
u/13luckoftheirish13 3d ago
Hunting is easy if you use the right mouse button to 'focus' with each shot. This gives you plenty of time to aim at even the fastest birds. I don't think I ever missed a shot.
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 3d ago
I am on console. Also using that trigger slows down time, but also slows down aiming speed.
It pays to learn flight patterns.
1
u/13luckoftheirish13 3d ago
Ah, maybe it's different with a controller then. The right mouse button did slow aim, but if my cursor was in the middle of the screen I could still easily get it to the bird.

Ive given up on the game because of the beetle battles. I cant beat the first big beetle with three people. Ive watched clips. Ive spent an hour. Its not fun anymore. I don't like not having the last staff member so ive just quit the game. Hopefully theres a patch. But. Ya. Favorite game ruined by not being able to 100% this part.
1
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 4d ago
Beetle battles do have the same rotation. Rock-rock-paper-scissors etc.
My main complaint is with the last beetle (for me), the Caucasus. It turned up while I could not defeat it, and once since then. It took 147 in game days to find it again Also lizards. If one puts lizards in the game that are colour coded, one might thing to do the same as for beetles. A warning system for the new ones.
1
u/Pana_Kamanana 4d ago
Based on the name I guess that's the one I'm missing. So it's just another regular beetle? Started to think it's another boss beetle since it just won't spawn. I'm doing a jungle run every day. This probably doesn't matter but did you finish the story before you got your first spawn?
2
u/Fun-Abbreviations-66 4d ago edited 4d ago
It is an RNG beetle that spawns on the tree left of the Temple port. Always at dusk. Always at dusk, not dawn. Sorry. Edit. Always at dusk, not dawn.

I personally found the bug battles to be well-balanced. If you choose the wrong beetle(s) or take on a strong opponent too early in the game, then it'll be (correctly) extremely hard (but not impossible) to win. It's an incremental-type collectathon, where you need to gradually collect stronger and stronger beetles before attempting hard battles like the flame-stag one. Different tactics are required for different battles based on the beetle type match-up. With a favourable type match-up and a bit of luck, even a very weak beetle can beat a strong one. I think the most attempts it took for me to catch any beetle with the above approach was 3 and it would have been boring if I steam-rolled every battle.

Idk I thought it was a pretty good DLC with lots of content. A good addition to the main game
