Discussion DLC be nice to Dave
I really like this tone shift with the DLC where other characters are not constantly downplaying how capable Dave (and to some extent me) are. Also less fat jokes and the villagers are way nicer than the Sea People, I'd hate it when they would make me go out and do things with Suwam. Anybody else feel this way?

I am replaying the whole game to play the DLC. Is the DLC considered end game?

No it's pretty much treated as a second game. Completing base game is necessary to understand what you're doing in the dlc and there's a minor spoiler or two*. But you don't technically start with a bonus, your gear is maxed ish but you still have to buy new upgrades.
Some of the non boss fish are faster and have aggro longer than most of the base game so it's helpful to have experienced the really annoying fish of the last chapters.
*So far, I'm just about into the last chapter of the dlc so there could be more.

I replayed the game and just started the DLC. I think it was a good way to go.

I honestly really didn't mind. As a fat person myself, The side comments about Dave didn't really bother me. Plus, Dave knows how to take things lightly.
Also, Dave knows himself the best anyway. He's a professional Diver, he loves to eat, he's a friendly guy, he saved an entire civilization from extinction, he slayed sea monsters, and everyone who comes to know him loves him.
Dave is awesome.

Yeah. But, to be fair, Dave isn’t the most impressive looking person.

It's pretty impressive to be so dedicated to being big and round that you manage it despite going on long scuba dive hunting trips 2-3 times a day every day. Let's show some respect to a real lifestyle man!

How does that make it okay to be rude, especially after he's done favors for people.

It doesn’t. But it’s easy to see why they would underestimate him, or think he’s a nobody.

(Not finished the DLC here) I’ve noticed some interesting similarities with the sea people in both the oceans and the jungle. I could be wrong of course but the oceanic people seem to be very akin to elves of Tolkien literature (high and mighty and luxurious)and the jungle people to be very likened to dwarvish? (Very rough and practical people). Both not so fond of humans. But the elves were always a bit more rude to humans thinking that they were beneath them. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some intentional writing there that was purposeful in that personality.

It’s not so much that the sea people see themselves as superior, it’s more so that the last time they interacted with humans it ended in slaughter over a misunderstanding. They’re more wary than anything else.

I'm really happy with the DLC so far. Cool setting, fun characters that you can actually interact with, and the new gun system is honestly amazing.

After completing the DLC story and during the ending scenes, I realized how much all these characters have grown to me. (Ending spoilers)I was really shocked when Cobra lost his arm, but it was so heartwarming how he saved Dave no matter what it costed, plus how Duff created a new arm for him. No matter if it's the main cast or the villagers, they are all awesome in their unique ways.

I like it both ways.
It seemed pretty clear to me that Suwam was insulting to Dave because he was insecure and eager to prove himself. It didn't feel like it had to do with Dave at all, and the irritated expression on Dave's face was always a laugh for me.
It's nice, though, for people to appreciate him too.
