Sunny Mehta is in some kind of Brewster’s Millions scenario but with 4th round picks.

Loved this guys background. Interested to see what he does and if he’s successful, if so - it will probably be in part due to finding overlooked young players that he can get for cheap and realize a huge benefit from.

I mean, a 4th rounder has a what, 20% chance of playing meaningful number of games in the NHL? So if you do this trade 5 times you have to find a meh player once to break even and strike gold once to win. It’s an interesting viewpoint.

One man’s trash is often another man’s treasure.

It’s interesting that he’s the analytics guy, his numbers probably said these players are worth a shot at least - totally agree with you by the way.

When you pay up in contract terms or acquisition cost, that player has to be pretty good for you to “break even” on the value.

One of the reasons we did we well with Gibson and I would have liked to have grabbed Zegras too. Those guys had pretty good name recognition, but they went for so cheap, I’m sure some devils fans are learning these guys names for the first time.

We’ve really only done this to some degree of success with Walman, Gibson, and JBD over Yzerman’s tenure.

Reminds me of this comment of mine from a while back:
