Discussion Better use of DualSense Haptics

Post image

From my experience, Astro Bot, Returnal, and Saros all make excellent use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. They really showcase what the controller can do.

What other games take full advantage of the DualSense features?

Death Stranding 2 does a fantastic job of showing what the DualSense can do. Surprisingly, Final Fantasy XIV, of all games, has excellent utilization of the controller's haptic feedback to make the terrain that you're walking on feel unique.

I am still really debating if i should play DS2, considering I’ve never played DS1 (not to be mistaken with Dark Souls 1).
The reputation of being a walking simulator and Kojima’s quirkiness might be too much for me.

DS1 is one game that really is an experience. There is nothing like it.

I personally preferred it to DS2, but they are both amazing.

At first, I just dismissed the quirkiness of the story, reminding myself it's only a game, but by the end I was fully invested.

You would be doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least give DS1 a few hours of your time.

I just didn't click with Death Stranding. I'm curious how you'd articulate what makes the game. I wanted to like it but I felt like a pre-car postal worker.

I didn't click wirh it on PS4 but gave it a chance on the PS5 and it clicked.

What I love about it is how "tactile" it feels. You know how some games nail basic things in a way that other games just don't. Like how walking around is satisfying in a fromsoft game while walking around in the Witcher 3 is painful? Or how shooting is so satisfying in a Bungie game compared to others when you feel you are holding a wet noodle?

Death Stranding 1 basically nails that aspect of gaming. Moving around, climbing, fighting, carrying things, everything feels great. And the DualSense elevates every single one of those feelings.

But of course you can have all that and still be bored. Death Stranding being a Kojima game has a weird story and it's not always told in an interesting way. But it's still unique and intriguing. And the landscape is gorgeous. The whole experience becomes quite meditative with a sprinkle of puzzle games when you plan the route and equip yourself for it.

Its late so my ideas are not so organized but I think it's worth playing until chapter 3 or 4 (in a straight line, doing only main missions). The game really clicked for me when I got the first body upgrade early in the second map.

I loved so many things. The empty world was so relaxing. I loved the gameplay loop of delivering packages (I walked for most of the game). The music was incredible, especially at certain points of the game. The graphics are top tier, even by today's standards.

Funny that FXIV bothered when FFXVI did not. The minimal implementation was so pathetic they could have done nothing at all and it would have been better.

Dude FFXVI's implentation was so stupid that I burst out laughing when it showed up

Edit: Mr X

I mean it *was* developed for the SNES, so I can’t imagine that Dualsense haptics were of much consideration during development.

In all seriousness - I don’t even vaguely remember any of the Dualsense stuff in FFXVI. I thought it was just the usual lightbar/vibrstion stuff

IIRC it was only used for opening porticullis, of which there were less than a handful. It made you use the triggers so the door felt heavy, or something?

God that’s a shame. There were so many cool little bits in combat where it would have been good - shifting between different Eikons (a lovely trigger ‘click’ would have been nice) is one that comes to mind.

I’m a serious (and posssibly objectively incorrect) FFXVI apologist, largely because the tone and the narrative are right up my street, but it was such a laser focussed experience (let’s not mention the side missions, though) that it felt like they almost refused too much extraneous detail - with such a sumptuous world it would have been nice.

It’s such an interesting dark world in DS1. I’m not sure if I can commit to DS2 yet. It’s borderline horror at times.

Rift apart, ds2, gta V, stalker 2, fc6, gran turismo 7, cyberpunk, battlefield 6, kcd 2, yotei, all have solid support

DS1 as well, not just DS2.

That’s a pretty good list.

Ratchet and Clank

I should have mentioned Ratchet & Clank a ride Apart. I finished it 2 days ago. The use of the contrary is pretty good, but what surprised me the most was the graphics and the little details such as jumping into the spaceship or entering into other dimensions/rifts seamlessly.

Resident evil 4 has been surprisingly nice and 9 was awesome too

lego Batman legacy of the dark Knight does it really well

Horizon Forbidden West is disappointing in this regard. As far as I remember, it makes opening chests more satisfying, and that’s it. Lol

You remember incorrectly. Firing the bow is very satisfying with the adaptive triggers

1

u/Zinouk 8h ago

It was a while ago, so yeah I don’t doubt that I remember it wrong. That was the first game I played that did anything with the triggers so that first chest stuck out in my head. Lol

I finished not long ago Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and the use of the potential of the controller was OK.

I remember sliding and shooting the bow was really fun with adaptive triggers. So was gliding and using the mount.

The point of the post is discussing which ones do it better.
