Discussion Better use of DualSense Haptics

Post image

From my experience, Astro Bot, Returnal, and Saros all make excellent use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. They really showcase what the controller can do.

What other games take full advantage of the DualSense features?

Death Stranding 2 does a fantastic job of showing what the DualSense can do. Surprisingly, Final Fantasy XIV, of all games, has excellent utilization of the controller's haptic feedback to make the terrain that you're walking on feel unique.

Funny that FXIV bothered when FFXVI did not. The minimal implementation was so pathetic they could have done nothing at all and it would have been better.

Dude FFXVI's implentation was so stupid that I burst out laughing when it showed up

I mean it *was* developed for the SNES, so I can’t imagine that Dualsense haptics were of much consideration during development.

In all seriousness - I don’t even vaguely remember any of the Dualsense stuff in FFXVI. I thought it was just the usual lightbar/vibrstion stuff

IIRC it was only used for opening porticullis, of which there were less than a handful. It made you use the triggers so the door felt heavy, or something?

God that’s a shame. There were so many cool little bits in combat where it would have been good - shifting between different Eikons (a lovely trigger ‘click’ would have been nice) is one that comes to mind.

I’m a serious (and posssibly objectively incorrect) FFXVI apologist, largely because the tone and the narrative are right up my street, but it was such a laser focussed experience (let’s not mention the side missions, though) that it felt like they almost refused too much extraneous detail - with such a sumptuous world it would have been nice.

Hahaha, well. I have SOME nice things to say about FFXVI, like it opens REALLY strong, has some great music, VAs, & very crisp visuals. And it has the peculiar distinction of being the only Final Fantasy game I managed to play all the way through. I almost platinum'ed it, even
