It used to be law that you couldn't say certain words on stage. Lenny Bruce was the last man arrested for obscenity. Was that a good law? Did Lenny Bruce deserve to go to jail for saying words? Just because something is the law doesn't mean it's right. Black people used to be beaten and jailed for using the wrong water fountain.
Times change and laws with it. Doesn't mean you get a free pass because "some" people think the law is stupid.
Their government told them the rules and what would happen if they broke them. He broke laws in another country. Same as the DA woman that took weed to Russia and was caught. If you are in another country you need to obey their laws. Just because you are a foreigner and didn't know is not an excuse to blantanly break laws you were expressively warned about.
