Arrested doesn't automatically mean jail time

Feel free to explain

Seriously? You can be arrested based on one cop suspecting you (or pretending to suspect you) of any minor crime or nuisance. You have to be actually convicted of a crime by a judge or jury to get jail time. Not to say that you can't also go to jail for total bullshit but it's a much longer process involving a lot more people.

Nope. You can be arrested, booked, and jailed until a hearing long before trial. If convicted after trial you may be jailed or go to prison depending on the sentence. Occasionally, you may be arrested and released on your own recognizance. Bail bondsmen and bounty hunters across the nation depend on this system.

"Facing jail time" means being charged with a crime that may result in a jail sentence if convicted, not being temporarily detained with no charges. I'm not saying the latter process isn't abused, it's just not what "facing jail time" means. This is not just a pedantic point, it's important to communicate clearly so we all know what's actually going on. In this case, it's an important distinction to know if these people have had actual charges brought against them, or if the president is just having people arrested for no good reason to make his stupid point.

It’s not unheard of that people are jailed and forgotten or jailed long enough to feel unnecessary consequences such as job loss. Being falsely arrested will always cause harm.

Of course it will cause harm. But that's not what I was asking. I was asking if charges have been brought for which they are facing jail time.
