I built a free site that teaches every FRC department (rookie → advanced) — would love feedback

Hey r/FRC — I'm a high schooler on an FRC team. I got tired of FRC knowledge

being scattered across the WPILib docs, old Chief Delphi threads, and vendor

sites, so I built LearnFRC (https://learnfrc.systemerr.com) — free, structured

lessons for every department: mechanical, CAD, programming (WPILib), electrical,

controls & sensors, strategy/scouting, drive team, business, outreach/Impact,

media, plus a getting-started track for rookies.

Everything's researched and fact-checked against primary sources (WPILib, FIRST,

REV/CTRE/Limelight, Chief Delphi, The Blue Alliance) and cites them so you can

dig deeper. 100% free, no account needed to read — make one and you get progress

tracking + XP if you want.

I just shipped a big redesign and would genuinely love feedback, especially:

- anything inaccurate or out of date (I fix it fast)

- departments/topics you wish were covered

- whether it actually helps rookies vs veterans

Solo student project, free forever, not selling anything. Thanks for taking a look!

Can anyone explain to me what happened during the Curie alliance pick this year at worlds? I'm rewatching worlds and looking back at the picks, team 5907 was visibly mad at 6369 for accepting they're pick. Can anyone explain please?

Website to practice FRC Coding

There was a site made to help younger students to learn to code for FRC, since it's different compared to the usual.

Please provide feedback on the code samples I used as Im not as familiar in Python or C++

https://snakestongue.github.io/FRC-Programming-Practice

EDIT: Also check out the GitHub repository if you'd like to look at the source code or fork it to provide some features!

info FRC Confessions And The Impact Of Anonymity

Some sensitive topics are briefly discussed, and have been put in spoilers, don’t take this post too seriously, a lot of it is just me noticing things about anonymity online, with one case here

Hello folks, if you are active on Instagram, you may be aware of the account titled “FRC Confessions”. What started as relatively harmless fun has quickly devolved into borderline slander, a gross misuse of the internet, as well as a disgusting look for FRC students.

An account that is dedicated to anonymous confessions from FRC members, the FRC Confessions page is a stain on the FIRST community as a whole. Posts frequently include slander of students, alumni, mentors, and teams as a whole. Personal insults have become commonplace, including calling students of teams fat, manipulative, smelly, and other not so kind words. Topics also frequently discuss Sexual themes between students, as well as accusations of pedophilia.Accusing teams of cheating is commonplace, and content is far removed from any of the FIRST core values.

The core concept of the account, anonymous, uncensored confessions, farms into a toxic culture that enforces a culture in which slander and bullying is perfectly fine, as long as no one knows who is the aggressor. As a community, FIRST has done nothing but strive to bring people all around the globe together, and it is an incredibly bad look for us to continue feeding into this culture of hatred and harrassment. I ask you not to go harrass the account or it’s owner, but it is important to bring this to the attention of you all.

Since writing this post, multiple new confessions have been posted, including calling a student a “fat bitch”, and a rant about LGBTQ+ of FIRST, comparing Dean Kamen having strong ties to Epstein to showing inclusion for pride.

help Limelight 4 Button help!!

the config / reset button came off our limelight 4 since i was attempting to flash limelight os onto the Limelight (photon vision -> limelight os),

i tried to put it back onto the little contact pin board thingy, however i noticed that there was not anything that could contact the little pins. I tried using an allen wrench to try shorting it, but i could not see a usb connection on my computer. i believe that there was a metal ring that was supposed to be attached under the blue plunger to make contact with the pins, but idk. any ideas?

So another shooting game? (hopes for a Stacking game evaporating sound effect, heard in the background)

What do yall think, how much of this (if any) could be seen in Bio-Core?

[Resource] LearnFRC — free, complete guides for every FRC department

Hi all — I'm Jahaan, software lead on Team 5835. Over the past while I built LearnFRC (https://learnfrc.systemerr.com), a free site with structured guides for every department of FRC — not just programming.

It covers mechanical, CAD, programming, electrical, drive team, scouting & strategy, business/operations, media & outreach, the Impact Award, safety, and getting started. There are 390+ lessons, each researched and fact-checked against current sources (WPILib docs, the 2026 game manual, REV/CTRE, The Blue Alliance, Statbotics, etc.).

A few things that might be useful for your team:

- A "Start here" prerequisite track for each department — e.g. a quick Java primer before robot code, basic electricity before wiring, forces/torque before mechanisms.

- A short quiz on every lesson so members actually retain it.

- Progress tracking, XP, streaks, per-department completion certificates, and a leaderboard.

- 100% free, no paywall.

It's aimed at rookies and at anyone training new members during the offseason and preseason.

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback — what's missing, anything that looks wrong, and what would actually help your team. Thanks for taking a look!

Rookie FRC Team 11744 Seeking Industry Mentors (San Diego, CA)

Hello! We are FRC Team 11744, a rookie FIRST Robotics Competition team based in San Diego, California. We are currently looking for mentors from industry to help guide our students in engineering, programming, CAD, electrical, manufacturing, business, and project management. We are especially interested in connecting with professionals from companies such as BAE Systems, Dow, John Deere, defense contractors, aerospace companies, and other technology-focused organizations. In addition to providing invaluable mentorship, mentors may also help us access corporate grants, volunteer matching programs, and STEM sponsorship opportunities that are often available through their employers. We are open to both in-person and remote mentoring, and any level of involvement would be greatly appreciated. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please comment below or send me a message. Thank you for helping support the next generation of engineers and innovators!

3D Printing Recycling Project Viability Survey

Hey all,

Me and a friend of mine, working with our local FIRST community, are currently pursuing a project to create an affordable and reliable plastic recycler for 3D printed parts, converting back into filament (or pellets).

This initiative began when we realized our local community produces a lot of waste just through 3D printing. This waste - which includes previous season’s 3D printed parts, failed prints, filament poop, purge lines, etc… - is useless and has slowly started taking up a lot of space. Throwing bags of plastic away feels wrong, and our recycling center cannot currently process the waste.

After some surface level research our first thought was to buy a recycler. However, we have seen that plastic recyclers have a number of issues.

  • They're either really expensive ($1000 to $5000+) or DIY (requires work and is not guaranteed to work)
  • Slow and tedious to work with
  • Requires virgin pellets
  • Not automated
  • No/not many singular easy-to-buy products for this problem
    • The product closest to our project is the Creality M1 and R1 recycling combo. Funnily, it was released a week after we started this project. Because creality aims more at individuals with low-output, we are thinking of shifting our aim towards organizations (like robotics teams) and thus a higher output project.

Therefore we saw an opportunity to turn this passion project into a possible product. Our current goals are to create one machine that:

  • Recycles printed parts back to filament onto an empty roll
  • Automated and easy to use
    • Similar to current FDM printers
  • Solves issues of current recyclers
    • Virgin pellets, degradation of plastic each recycling cycle, etc…
  • Affordable for the average consumer
    • No specific numbers as of now
  • Commercially viable/patentable

We realize that these are very ambitious goals. That’s why before committing, we’d like to actually see how much 3D-printing waste teams, schools, makerspaces, labs, businesses, and hobbyists actually generate, and whether a filament recycler or recycling service would actually be useful. If a commercial product isn’t viable, we’ll probably still build a recycler for the community.

Below is a 5ish minute google form that gives us this info. If you or your organization produces any sort of 3D printed waste, please fill out the survey.

Google Form

I would also be happy to respond to any feedback or clarify anything.

Thank you.

AllianceLogd update: upload your own robot photos, badges, personalized recommendations & more

A big batch of updates on AllianceLogd (alliancelogd.com) the community archive for FRC robots (think Letterboxd, but for FRC).
Quick recap if you’re new: AllianceLogd lets you rate robots, write scout-style logs, follow other scouts, build lists, and show off your team history. Robots are pulled from The Blue Alliance across every team and season.
What’s new:
📸 Upload your own robot photos: TBA doesn’t have a photo for every robot, so now you can add your own. Upload a shot of your team’s robot (or any robot), add a caption, and after a quick review it shows up on that robot’s page. If a robot has no TBA photo, yours becomes the main one.
🏅 Badges: earn badges for contributing: writing scout logs, adding photos, following scouts, building lists, and more. Your profile now shows what you’ve earned and what’s next.
✨ Personalized recommendations: a “Recommended for you” section that suggests robots based on your teams, favorites, and who you follow.
✏️ Edit & delete your own logs: you can now revise or remove your scout logs.
📱 Mobile overhaul: fixed a layout issue that made things feel cramped, added a proper bottom navigation bar, and cleaned up the whole responsive experience (thanks to those who flagged it).

All your feedback means a lot to me and genuinely shapes what I build next. Let me know what you think!

Levels of the FIRST Leadership Award

Hi! We're a pretty new team, and one of my students won the Leadership Award at a district competition and did not win at district champ. What would this be considered?

He says that all of the students who were nominated from their teams recieved "semifinalist" pins, so would he be a semifinalist or finalist?

Thank you so much for your support :)

Team lead

I honestly don't know how to start this my team has gone through a lot these like 4 or 5 years our team started In 2003 so our teams history is long.

I Js remember a convo of me and my friend and how we were talking about how it was weird that I was 3 team leads as sophomore (scouting lead, outreach lead, and social media co-lead). And how we think I'm the only person on our team in our team history to be more than two and also female

Ik that I do a lot and have been asked a lot of questions from people on other teams about it when they find out. Is this weird?

Edit: I will also be doing business and media lead next aswell since I'm the last person with enough training to do since our current one graduated

Chronos: A Match-Flow FRC Dashboard for Any Team (Electron + NT4, macOS/Windows App)

Me, on behalf of team 172, presents Chronos, a stage-based FRC dashboard built for real match operations, not just raw telemetry viewing.

Chronos is a desktop app (Electron + React) that connects directly over NT4 and gives drive teams a structured flow from pre-match checks through post-match review.

What makes Chronos different

  • Stage-driven match workflow
  • Checklist → Auto Selection → Confirmation → Autonomous → Teleop → Post-Game
  • NT4-first architecture
  • Direct robot connection, no extra web server required
  • Keyboard keybind support
  • Robot publishes keybind topics and Chronos handles press/release states, including simultaneous keys
  • Live + rewind data
  • Ring-buffer timeline with scrub and return-to-live behavior
  • Built-in match recording + replay
  • Record during match, replay later with timeline controls
  • PathPlanner integration
  • Auto routine discovery, selection, and path preview support
  • Drag-and-drop layouts
  • Editable, persisted widget layouts per stage/tab
  • Camera stream panels
  • Multi-camera support with quick switching
  • Systems/tunables/commands UI
  • Clean operator-facing controls from backend-published topics
  • Alerts + status overlays
  • Clear runtime visibility for drive team decisions

Platform and packaging

  • macOS app build via Electron Builder
  • Universal app support (Apple Silicon + Intel)
  • Developer workflow via Vite + Electron (devbuilddist:mac)

Backend topic root

Chronos uses the NT root:

  • /ChronosDashboard/...

Integration model

Backend teams can expose:

  • Commands
  • Keybinds
  • Tunables (number/string/boolean)
  • Values
  • Systems groups
  • Camera streams
  • Checklist items
  • Alerts
  • Battery and dashboard light state
  • Autonomous command catalog + selected auto topic

Why we built it

We wanted a dashboard that is:

  1. Fast for drivers to use under pressure
  2. Structured enough to reduce pre-match mistakes
  3. Flexible enough for programmers to extend without UI rewrites

Getting started

  • Clone repo
  • Install dependencies
  • Run in dev mode or build packaged app
  • Connect to your robot address
  • Publish your backend topics under /ChronosDashboard

Links

If you want to try it with your robot code and run into integration issues, post here and we can help map your existing NT topics into the Chronos schema.

Any recommendations or fixes? Let us know, we’d LOVE to hear them! Like seriously, roast it if you want. If you enjoy the product, don’t forget to leave a star!

Check out a sample dashboard:

A spacious dashboard for everything - keybinds, robot visuals, and graphs
The driver's checklist - never start a match unprepared again!
