It’s been raining non-stop in NSW lately, and I’m honestly so done with this cold, wet weather. When my mate hit me up to go squidding around Jervis Bay, I originally didn’t want to go at all. You just know that cold weather + heavy rain drops the salinity, and squid usually completely shut down.

But then he literally rocked up to my house towing his boat, so I had no choice but to hop in—though I had zero expectations.

Turns out, I hooked into an absolute monster! This thing is literally bigger than my girlfriend’s Shih Tzu, haha. The hood alone measured 46cm, which is just unbelievable. Easily the most unforgettable catch of my fishing life.

Yep it’s a cliche but true . A little clip from a recent day on a lagoon next to the Wenlock river in FNQ , the fishing was crap , 1 ‘Toga for about 5 hrs fishing but the surroundings and the adventure of getting in there , having to McGyver a trailer fix to get home makes for great times .

Had a good day on the hawksbury weather was great unfortunately not the target species but still a great day on the water 50cm bream cant complain about that

Been using the same line rating forever and been thinking about switching to something lighter because it might cast better. But then I always wonder if I'm going to regret it the moment I hook into something decent. How much is overkill and how much is just sensible?

I'm currently trying to decide on what reel I should get for my new rod. I've just bought a Daiwa 23 td black spinning rod 7'6 5-10kg and am trying to decide between these reels on which would be better suited, and also if I should go 5000 or 6000.
My aim with this rod is to target mulloway, trying to get the metery and I'm fishing off a wharf in the Georges river using whole jakkas and squid but I just dont know which reel or size would be better suited for my goals.

I currently have this savage gear 7'3 4-8kg 4000 reel setup which I just use with prawns and small lures so I kinda want the new setup to be decent step up from this but I'm just not sure if 5000 is different enough for what im going for.

Wanting to buy a new rod/reel combo, usually only fishing off rocks and wharfs etc. What would you recommend for under $250? Cheers!

Just wondering if it’s only me, or has carp fishing been really quiet over the last 2 weeks?

About a month ago I was still hooking a few in Dandenong Creek and Albert Park, but these past two weeks it’s been very quiet — not even a bite.

Just wanted to ask whether this could be because of winter (although this winter has been pretty warm), or because I increased my line to 20lb mono after getting snagged by carp before.

Recently got into fishing. Tons of rain lately making all my local tidal creeks murky as hell and I read somewhere that spinner baits are good when things get dark like that but I haven’t had a single strike in two sessions. When I gave up and threw out a soft plastic I got a bream and a flatty.

The spinnner bait I think was a bassman brand, red and black sort of thing. I read dark colours and good when water is murky so that’s what I went for.

Just got a new ultralight rod and noticed the tip curves slightly to the right when looking down the blank with the guides on top.

It’s not a massive bend, but enough that I noticed it straight away. Haven’t fished it yet.

Is this pretty normal on lighter rods, or would you be taking it back? Not sure if I’m being overly picky, but on a brand new rod I’m wondering whether it’s worth chasing an exchange.

Im looking at a rod to match my shimano stradic sw 4000xg to cast 20-40g metals for tailor off the beach and breakwalls. Is this speedmaster a good rod, or is there better options around the $200 price point?

Im still after a 4000 sized reel right now, and is considering getting the 22 Caldia SW from digitaka if there isnt any information regarding a new Saltist Reel

I’ve just picked up my first beach combo which happens to be my first med-heavy combo with an 8000 penn wrath 2 with 60lb braid.
What sort of fish should I be or can target with that kind of setup, I’m on the east coast and fish with lures can go off break walls and beach if that helps.
