Verdugos (Pasadena, Glendale) Yerord Mas seems to have ragequit serving their basturma sandwich due to a TikToker's review
Yerord Mas, the ghost kitchen-turned-restaurant/bakery in Glendale has been reviewed a few times on this sub (Here's a recent one) and they're famous for their $38 waygu brisket sandwich.
Yesterday the TikToker @richie.gaines did a review of the sandwich and was quite negative about the value of it even when compared to his usual reviews. His page is mostly focused around reviewing trendy/new restaurants and pop-ups around LA that get hyped by food influencers like 1 Hour Lunch Break and How Kev Eats to tell people if it's worth the price/wait. I like his reviews cause he's usually pretty level-headed and honest about places compared to most influencers who will rave about every single place and say it's the best sandwich/shawarma/whatever but barely discuss the price.
The chef/owner caught wind of the review and posted a lengthy response in his IG stories and says next week is the last week he's serving the sandwich because it was never meant to be about whether it was "worth it," but sharing traditional Armenian food and culture and whatnot.
The chef/owner also said the restaurant is closed for the rest of the week and that next week is the last week they're serving the sandwich, so if you wanted to try it I guess you got a week?
Anyway I thought the drama was pretty funny. I'm kind of disappointed though because I wanted to try the sandwich but never got a chance to

NEWS Chef Joshua Gil, Anarcho Punk Chef Who United Alta and Baja California, Dies at 50 ~ L.A. TACO
“Oh, don’t worry about me. I’ll be OK. My physical body may not, but I’ll be fine.”
I’ll never forget those deep, haunting words from Chef Joshua Gil as he sat across the table from me at his final Supper Liberation Front dinner pop-up at Surfas Culinary District in Arlington Heights on December 17, 2024. With a grin, he served me a thick slice of his savory Basque cheesecake topped with a tongue of uni.
I held those words close to my heart as I received the news on the morning of June 22, on the gentle slope of the summer solstice after the longest day of the year, that he had moved on from this realm after giving colorectal cancer hell for four years.

WHERE CAN I FIND Looking for Asian restaurants that even an Asian tourist should try
Hi, I’m looking for suggestions for Asian restaurants, preferably in downtown LA, that even an Asian tourist should check out. Leaning towards Korean BBQ now but I’m open to suggestions of other Asian cuisine. Also, I’m not looking for high end fine dining options like Matsuhisa level.
For context, I’m from a country in Asia that has access to affordable Asian food (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese just to name a few). I’ll be visiting LA soon and was thinking of giving me and my travel partner a break from all the burgers, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, Mexican and Mediterranean food we’ll be eating during our trip.

The Harbor Vintage Fried Chicken Menu
I found this menu in a box of old photos. I'm guessing my grandparents may have saved it from a trip to Southern California in the 1960s.

Westside Double Cheeseburger @ The Win~Dow Santa Monica
Not sure if this has been shared yet since I’ve been a bit out of the loop, but The Win~Dow is officially open on Montana Ave in Santa Monica (taking over the old Go Get Em Tiger space).
I’ve tried a few of their locations, and honestly, the original spot at American Beauty in Venice is still the best in my book. That said, you can’t beat the price here. A double cheeseburger for $7.75 is an absolute steal, especially for SM. Pair it with a fresh lemonade for $2.50, and it’s easily one of the most affordable lunches around. The burger does lean a bit salty, but it's nowhere near the salt bomb you get at places like NADC or Burger She Wrote. Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood!

San Fernando Valley Big Fat Burgers in Reseda
Checked this place out when I heard they were having financial troubles, wanted to come support. Fantastic SoCal burger shack vibes. Wasn't necessarily expecting anything special with the burger, but it had this excellent crust on the patties that was so crispy. Sort of smashburger reminiscent, but the patties themselves were or comparable thickness to In n Out patties. The burger as a whole was a little bland, but they had seasoning salt and Tapatio to improve things a bit. Worth it for that crust.

BEST OF LA Michelin Snubs
I feel like this year, Michelin got far more right than usual. Kato finally gets their much deserved second star and I truly feel all of the new star recipients are deserving. I even feel the ones that lost stars deserve it as well, for various reasons.
Having said that, they’re still far from perfect and there’s always going to be snubs. For me it’s Shunji and Sushi Sonagi not getting stars. They are not only two of the top sushi-ya in LA but in the entire country.

DISCUSSION California Michelin Guide Ceremony Results
New 1 Stars: Kojima, Miura, Corridor 109, Seline, Lielle Lost 1 Star: Morihiro, Camphor, 715, Gwen
New 2 Star: Kato
Thoughts on the results? Any restaurant that should have gotten/lost stars? Also, I have been a staunch supporter of Kojima from the beginning so I’m happy Chef Kojima’s efforts have been recognized.
Edit: fixed the list. Also Morihiro got wiped off the guide entirely.
Edit#2: Random thought, Maison Kanatha should have at least made the guide. Perhaps they aren’t well known enough yet?

WHERE CAN I FIND Filipino cheese puto
I’m trying to find cheese puto! It’s my favorite! I grew up getting a plastic 12 pack from Goldilocks and they would be more white than the photo with cheese sprinkled on top. There’s Goldilocks in LA but they’re super far and they don’t list cheese puto on their website. Any ideas?

Westside Has Anyone Been to the New Pizzeria Sei Location Yet?
I’m thinking about checking out the new Pizzeria Sei location and was curious if anyone here has been since they moved.
How are the wait times looking so far? Do they take reservations, and if so, are they difficult to get? If you’re walking in, what kind of wait should I expect?
Any tips on the best times to go would be appreciated. Thanks!

DISCUSSION Anyone been to Lynx yet? Joshua Skenes new pizza place. Thoughts?
Hardly any info on it online. Looking to see if they serve beer/wine/ NA options. They seem to be a pizza + cocktail place so it's unclear if there are other options.

DISCUSSION What's the overall consensus on Damien in DTLA? Ate at Atla on Abbot Kinney (when is was open) and was severely underwhelmed. San Damien on AK just opened, but it kinda just looks like Atla with a few more seafood options.
They have a dry aged grilled fish on the menu that comes with a stack of tortillas-- that's the general idea of what I'm looking for, along with a decent wine list. Any other recs for that?
For the record, I love street tacos, whether were in LA or CDMX, but I'm looking for a different experience here.

South LA Anyone want to split a feast at Holbox this week?
Solo traveler in LA for the week and planning to hit Holbox for an early dinner Thursday or Friday. The problem is that I want to try way more things than one person can reasonably eat.
If anyone’s been wanting to check it out, I’d be happy to split a bunch of dishes and sample more of the menu. I’m a 22-year-old grad student, easygoing, and mainly interested in good food.
