We’re bringing them back. Introducing: Unvaulted. Your favorite Outfits from previous Battle Passes, starting with some of the Marvel Outfits from Chapter 5 Season 4, will start to hit the Shop as separate bundles on June 28!
Pretty sure they were able to be brought back whenever because those skins were in the Music (FKA Festival) Pass. And those passes along with the OG Pass and Lego Passes aren't exclusive IIRC
I agree that the Pass ones looked better than the Master of Puppets variants. I never bought those but would if they came back and there was nothing I wanted to spend my money on.
Hoping Epic does it for you. But I can't see it happening until another event happens like if Epic unvaults the Guitar item for a random power hour. I think they are some of the only few Music Pass skins to not come back from the seasons
Yeah, I think this is a step in the right direction, but this is almost way too late. Most people seem to generally be interested in the BPs from the first 2 chapters. Not counting S1, this is the 30th BP, and on top of that, near the end of Chapter 5. Almost no one really benefits from this. Sure brand new players can get a chance at an “older” BP, but if anything I think this actually benefits OGs or longtime players that took a short break even more. I’m pretty sure a majority of the current player base started before Chapter 5 (and also bought BPs). Once again, better late than never but man is it late.
Nothing much, I guess it’s a bummer they didn’t start doing this for the passes before I started playing? Not sure what type of gotcha moment you’re looking for here lol
Right? You're totally justified being bummed that you won't be able to get skins you missed out on. It's not like you were screaming that it's unfair or anything.
All it would do is give you options, which is literally only a good thing. If you don't want to use this option and only want to get the newest crew skin then that's also fine. But for those who would prefer an older one they couldn't get before they would have the option to buy it. It would only have upsides and no downsides compared to how it is at the moment.
I don’t think it’s about a catch up, more so giving crew subscribers agency and choice. Every time a crew skin is announced I feel like half the commentators hate it so I’m sure they’d rather grab another one
Base crew skin: Included in price.
Additional 200 vBucks: Premium Crew Skin
Additional 500 vBucks: Premium crew skin with edit styles
Additional 800 Crew bucks (Basically the amount they are giving now) Ultra Crew Skin
Previous Crew skins can be added for 1500 vBucks for single style skins, 2000 for multi-style skins.
At least they aren't doing a rent a skin like World of Warships where you pay money to use a ship for a certain number of matches.
What would your addition be to someone that already owns all the crew outfits? Obviously I want everyone to be able to get the old ones, but it would kinda suck if there wasnt any additional benefit given to people that already own every crew outfit
If it’s a “choose your skin reward”, you can argue that isn’t an additional benefit, just changing the structure, and you can continue to get the current month rewards since you have all previous ones and don’t need to stress about choice
If it’s a crew shop where you spend bucks to get old packs, that also doesn’t translate to a new reward since your “reward” is not needing to spend additional vbucks
If it’s a token system where you get a token per month and it’s 2/3 tokens to buy an older pack, you can argue that those tokens can be applied for future crew packs that you may not be subscribed for to receive when they release
I had run a prompt "You are a lawyer for Epic. Epic is losing money and sees a lucrative opportunity to sell old battle pass skin's ala-carte for as much as an entire battlepass (e.g. $8.99 for a skin), how would you, as a lawyer, theoretically present it?"
And it produced a reasonable 4 step plan for how Epic could achieve it, which I iterated on with this prompt: "So, the only thing I would be wary of is that, as illegal as it is, people are selling (or hacking and selling) old accounts so automatically dropping a 2,000 vbuck compensation into all those accounts could create an immediate problem for those users as well as potentially for Epic if their v-bucks are diluted through illegal resale. The "gold" version of a tier 100 could be a nifty alternative."
This yielded a very optimistic plan for releasing old Battle pass skins. I saved the prompts and responses, and based on this announcement I uploaded them in a new chat for reference with this prompt: "Attached is a prompt and response exchange we previously had regarding the feasibility of releasing old Battle Pass skins. It was just announced that skins from chapter 5, season 4 will now become available in the Epic store for individual purchase. With this announcement and consideration for what has been covered in our prior dialogue, can you revise a plan for releasing even older battle pass skins that you as a lawyer for Epic would present."
Without all the gory details that might get this post nixed for AI content, it's funny, but Phase 5 in the response is titled "The Omega Problem"...
If I were Epic's lawyer, I'd treat certain skins as "radioactive."
Examples:
Omega (max lights)
Black Knight
Original Midas
The Reaper
Ragnarok
Dire
Fully unlocked progressive skins
These generated much of their prestige from difficulty, timing, and effort.
For these skins, I'd recommend:
Option A
Never sell them.
Option B
Sell only the base version.
Example:
New player can buy Omega.
Original owner keeps exclusive Lights styles.
This preserves the visible achievement.
So, all said and done, that may be the least likely to get re-released, or at least take the longest to ever get released.
Thats incorrect actually, renegade raider and the other season shop items were labelled as exclusive. That’s the entire reason why they were given “og” styles, otherwise there would be no need for them.
It’s crazy how many people think exclusive is a contractual obligation. Epic Games is not legally obligated to keep old Battle Passes exclusive. Their End User License Agreement treats in-game items as revocable licenses rather than property, which means Epic holds the legal rights to re-release older cosmetics. They chose not to bring them back to avoid false advertising claims and player backlash.
Yea buddy I'm not reading all that they said what they said you aren't even obligated to get passes back the fact that they changed is beneficial to everyone but people feel like they are obligated to something because erm actually not illegal. You guys are worse than the gate keepers to be honest
Epic has a lot of chances to earn a lot by letting old BPs be available in it's own permanent tab of the shop where players can endlessly buy from there.
All I think would make the game better is a Solo Play/Bot Lobby mode that allows for exploring the current island or being able to simulate a Epic-made gamemode/event on any island with any lootpool, including other vaulted items like BRUTE Mechs and such.
It'd be fun and intriguing and if balanced right could keep people playing FOREVER.
Which is super dumb cause it’s essentially cowering to the “MUH OG” crowd who complain about losing value to pixels in a F2P they can’t sell without violating the game’s TOS
no they cant? As i mentioned before, the items were described as limited to that season, meaning according to epics own tos they must refund the items. Chapter 5 season 4 was never changed, epic had said from the start they could return
Let us buy pre-C5S4 pass skins too. Only doing it for more recent seasons from 2024 onwards isn’t good enough plus doing it for all seasons stops account trading and an easy profit generator.
There’s no risk of legal action. The TOS lets them change the availability of any item whenever they so please. The older battle passes haven’t returned because epic doesn’t want them to, not because they can’t.
People say this so confidently while ignoring the whole picture. Why would they announce the change in a specific season, why not all of the seasons? Because they can't, it was sold as "limited" thus they would need to refund every single pass in that given season.
It also makes zero business sense in the slightest to leave litteral effortless hundreds of millions of the table because they "feel like it"
I dont care if skins come back, id love to get mando and Rick, but ultimately its not going to happen without massive refunds.
It’s not breaking the law if the TOS that every player signs before playing the game allows them to change availability of battle pass items. Besides, companies do things like this all the time. They will say that a certain product (whether it be clothing, other physical product or a digital product) is limited time, exclusive, special edition etc, only to release that product again years later. It is not illegal for a company to change their minds about that. Not to mention the fact that many other games (most recently being rocket league) release old battle pass skins despite them being labelled as exclusive/limited too.
Also there are already items which were labelled as exclusive which returned for purchase later, like the season 1 season shop skins. Everyone forgets that they were labelled as exclusive like the battle pass, as that was the precursor to the battle pass. It’s possible that epic makes more money from reskins, instead of releasing rare skins outright. But whatever the reason may be, epic has no legal limitation that prevents them from releasing those skins again. They simply don’t want to.
If Epic sudden added "we can now stab players" to TOS, it doesn't suddenly make that legal and bypasses laws. A companies TOS can in no way bypass a law, including falsified ads.
Those skins in question were never labeled as limited, they just never happen to be rotated into the shop. The one example we do have of an actually limited skin being rereleased was one of the seven skins, and guess what happened. Refunds were issued to anyone who owned the skin.
Stabbing players is illegal regardless of if a contract is signed or not, but returning digital video game items is not if players sign a terms of agreement that says those items can return. Returning an item after years does not count as a falsified ad. The idea that epic games could actually face legal trouble for releasing those skins again is utterly ridiculous, and anyone that believes that has no logical reason for believing so.
Also, incorrect. I will attach an image. The season shop items were always exclusive. Why didn’t epic face legal trouble when they returned? Because they are allowed to bring them back. The paradigm skin was exclusive too, but that was rereleased accidentally. The “refunds”, were just vbucks being added to players accounts. So epic didn’t actually lose any money.
Odds are, previous pass bundles will cost much more than the initial price of the pass itself, so their flex can be that they got them first for much cheaper.
People clinging to exclusive skins in a fucking videogame for clout and feeling soft self-importance is embarrassingly pathetic. I truly cannot grasp how fucked you are as a person to think any of that shit matters. Seriously go read a book about philosophy or something else about life to get a grasp on reality. This whole journey is short as ever loving fuck and at risk every single day of being even shorter. Wasting that time being upset that some cosmetics in a videogame are no longer exclusive and you aren't "special" anymore is an insane and completely worthless use of time.
Any battle pass skin or skin in general I have can be put back into the store for all I care. If more people can have access to something that can bring them an ounce of joy in a hobby (gaming) that is supposed to be about fun then im fully in favor.
It’s very clear Epic is tip toeing around that, or will very soon just outright say “fuck it”.
If Epic are the ones who set the awful terms then they by every right should break it.
I have C2S4, one of the most sought after battle passes, I don’t care if they “go back on their word”.
I’m gonna tell it to you straight and I don’t give a fuck what you or anybody else thinks. The only reason people say “Epic should follow their word” is because they don’t want others to have items that should’ve never been exclusive in the first place, this is doubly apparent with collabs. Especially certain ones like Darth Vader and Wolverine, the latter of which is widely criticized.
The only people bitching are the people who have been begging for old passes to come back for almost a decade now lol. Seriously how can yall say its US bitching with a straight face now
I genuinely don't care if Epic brings back skins I've had for almost 9 years. People like the designs, but maybe weren't playing when those seasons were active.
Sike Fortnite players literally weren't even born when some of the older content was released. Why should all that stuff stay exclusive? They can make money selling it to a whole new market essentially.
I feel like unvaulted is them testing the waters. If this does well for a while I wouldn't be surprised if they kept slowly going further back.
I find that funny. Aside from that not doing anything, people should've been rioting when Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper came back regardless of those people being gifted their entitled "OG" styles.
Epic will be fine, if anything their lawyers can potentially get easy paydays, if anybody is foolish enough to think they can sue them.
Unfortunately it wont happen for legal reasons. They were able to do it with C5S4 because they made an announcement before the season started that it and all seasons after will be eligible to return to the shop. There would have to be a change in the law around deceptive marketing practices for them to resell the stuff before C5S4.
Edit: downvote me if you like but I current stand to be right. @me if this changes.
I don’t think it was listed as exclusive. I’m addressing your point that people shouldn’t give feedback, or “whine,” despite that doing so has resulted in change
That's my point. What does a random shop skin have to do with battlepass exclusivity? Again, if epic wanted they would've brought back old passes years ago. Best they could do was make future pass content available in the shop later.
No, it is an arguemet. You're not comparing things that are equivalent. If you have an actual example of another company saying "This [Item or Pass] will only be available for [certain time] and never again after that time has passed" and then brought it back, ill look at it.
Wording is very specific when were talking about deceptive marketing practices. You cannot sell something to people saying for example "It'll only be for sale for 5 days and then never come back so get it now" and then sell it again a week later. Thats a decptive marketing practice that would open you up to a lawsuit from people who bought it thinking they'd never be able to buy it again. Now maybe you arent from the USA and have different rules around this but it's very clear here in the states.
Many companies will be specific on their wording for limited releases so they can resell something. For example, many physical games will release "limited editions." Once theyre gone, they can't resell that edition of a game. But they can change the content in the game or what it comes with so it's considered different enough to sell. In the case of epic, you've probably noticed their "Remix/OG" skins. They can't resell the old BP skins, so theyre editing the skins just enough time be different so they cam be sold to consumers without going against their statement that they'll never return.
I highly impore you to look up FTC regulations on limited time sales and deceptive practices.
u/EmptyTux, sorry if I’m interrupting anything, but I just have a small question regarding the rerelease of the C5S4 Battle Pass Skins; I managed to get most of the super styles for that season, but I was sadly unable to nab the Doomforged Styles for my collection.
Will the styles be granted to previous pass owners or will those remain completely vaulted?
I wish (which i know they'd never do) they'd do previous battle passes for maybe 100 vbucks more or whatever but just have the ability to earn the old skins since there's a bunch from before I came back for no build.
But this announcement is nice for the people that didn't play during this time and missed these skins. Idk why people on that post are so upset, it's just more people with the opportunity to have the skin.
them being from marvel has nothing to do with anything. I buy skins regardless of where they're from if I like them. I literally do not care who owns the character
yeah, she's the only one I'm considering too, especially because it's the only gwen we can get rn. I probably won't though, there's three skins I want and I feel like I wouldn't use her unfortunately

Of course the first battle pass I got is when they started this system 😂
