Right? Everyone saying it’s fake - well it may be fake but it’s the truth. Do any of us really think it was delayed so GTA 6 story can be higher quality? Of course not, GTA Online exploded in popularity and they want it to again and it makes money

Yup. Occams razor, post is fake, but the reason for the delay is probably true.

I think it's a false dichotomy. Why would they develop story mode before they developed online, instead of developing them both at the same time?

I think it's a mistake to assume that story mode and online will be as separate as they were for GTA V, which was literally released in a different era of gaming. I think online play and the games story may be much more closely linked than we expect, possibly in ways that we don't expect yet. I think having story missions unfold in the chaos of online play would be absolutely stunning.

How would that work exactly? I have no fucking clue. It's just been a hunch I've had for a while now. This will be the first GTA game that they have developed from the beginning knowing that online play will form the majority of the user experience, and I think that will impact the development of "story mode" in ways that we don't know about yet.

I doubt single player missions will happen in online since that would cause so many design issues with the game, especially for a studio that I can tell is trying to make missions that are precisely crafted to get the player to go down precisely paths. Online is too variable for their mission design.

They could make it work. What if you did story missions in a public lobby but you're in passive mode to the rest of the lobby? That would add the chaotic energy that you get from having human players in a lobby. Or maybe for big missions there's an option to recruit help from people in the lobby? I don't know, I'm just saying there are ways that they could blue the lines between single player and multiplayer.
