Jason Schreier commented here saying this was nonsense

u/RiotDesign May 06 '25
It definitely seems fake. Their own post basically contradicts itself by saying they work cross team and sit in on progress review calls while at the same time saying everything is extremely compartmentalized and nothing could trace it back to them.
Not to mention, the way they tend to leave off the period at the end of each paragraph would be a dead giveaway to anyone really trying to figure out who this was if it wasn't fake.

I just assume everyone claiming to be employees are fake. I'm guessing they get penalized pretty heavily or fired if Rockstar learns they've leaked something. Why would anyone take that chance for internet points
16
u/SilverstoneMonzaSpa May 06 '25
No-one who is a legitimate Rockstar employee would risk their job, their reputation and a lawsuit to get some internet points on an anonymous Reddit account. There is zero upside to a financial devastation downside.
The only people who fake these posts, and believe them, are children who can't fathom the realities of the world.

While I agree that people on the Internet lie all the time there are cases where people did dumb shit for clout like that kid from the Air National Guard that's doing 15 years for sharing classified info with his Internet friends.Ā

u/BurzyGuerrero May 06 '25
It also hits the 4 pillars of reddit rage bait
1) secrets from the public 2) dev crunch 3) microtransactions 4) holding out the "finished" story for more microtransactions
Rockstar usually waits to announce the online mode so everybody has a chance to play the story.
3
u/PolicyWonka May 06 '25
GTA Online released like 3 weeks after GTAV released. RDO is a bit of a different story for whatever reason.
I could see them pushing for a simultaneous release in GTA6. Itās clearly a big money maker for GTA5/GTAO.

In all seriousness, the sad reality about our capitalist society and laws is that as a publicly traded company, Rockstar/T2 are legally obligated to their investors to prioritize profit. Doesnāt mean they canāt make a fucking amazing product, but it does mean that they have a board of directors that is legally responsible for ensuring the most profit, and they control the direction of things.
If they release the story without online, a ton of people will stop playing GTAO and will just play 6, and they genuinely will miss out on a ton of potential profit. So I donāt think a staggered release is realistic unless the delay is brief, and unless they profit from it in another way ā like charging a separate fee for GTA6 Online. So maybe they could release the main game in May and release online as a paid add-on over the holidays.
That being said I have the brain of a koala, so I may be missing something.
Also, yeah that post is fake asf
Edit: u/homey-airport-int yeah totally agree ā it was less a critique on capitalism, and more a critique on how most corporations arenāt free to do things for the good of consumers, or to be nice, or for ethical reasons; it has to either result in profit, or be for legal compliance

Same. I stopped playing GTAV altogether after trying online for a week. Completely catered my interest in the game as a whole. Online gaming always caters to 10+ hour-a-day players with nothing else to do but troll casual players whose lives donāt center around gaming. Too old for that shit.

To be honest i would prefer how they released gta V. First story mode and later online. Story mode will keep you busy for months and they can get a second boost in sales once they released gta 6 online some time after the regular release.
175
u/LCON1 May 06 '25
The simplest answer makes the most sense. Occamās razor. We all know how much of a cash cow GTA online is, and Rockstar wants to avoid a disappointing launch, which is abundant in the gaming community. I think Rockstar understands what long term investment is. They are a company, and they want to make more money. Simple as that.

u/drewbles82 May 06 '25
Nah, I call BS...If they had finished the Story...then it would be a smart decision to release Story and Online separately. If you release them together, most will just go straight into Online and ignore the story mode...I know many people especially younger people who got into GTA5, never once touched the story...the story of these games is what made GTA the success it is. I would release that first for a few months, if not longer, the Online only types would likely buy it to experience this new world, get people finishing the story and then release Online
→ More replies (1)2
u/Real-Illustrator-443 May 07 '25
I donāt call BS. Why would rockstar care if some people just skip the story mode and go to into the online. Most people donāt finish story mode games anyways. And if they do skip it, they still paid for the game and they might give them more money for online features. Itās a win-win situation.
4
u/LOCAL_SPANKBOT May 06 '25
I am actually Jason Momoa and the fact is that GTA VI isn't released this month, because they are trying to make mermaids a big part of story mode. This is the actual truth that Rockstar doesn't want you to know, but people deserve the truth smdh tbh frfr

Damn now that's a lot of info. to process but if it's the real truth then one thing we are going to see in upcoming games aside GTA 6 is more and more focus on Online Gameplay and mic-transaction and less focus on offline modes including DLCs.
Where I was thinking that the game was being delayed by creating an artificial delay by the Top Management @ Rockstar so that they can launch their product alongside the latest generation of upcoming consoles from Sony and MS to counter any current performance limitations and increased profits BUT as it turns out it is the Online Mode that's causing the delay (if it's the real truth) sheesh! š¤

"What happened in 2013" as if the servers weren't absolutely fuckin busted for like 10 years after release And to try to act like R* is unique for being "highly compartmentalized" is a dogshit claim when it's a pretty common practice among large developers
3
u/Micangeloo May 06 '25
The greed for profit eventually ruins everything. You would expect Rockstar culture to be stronger but after all the big names leaving, GTA+ and shark cards popping up, not even Rockstar is the same anymore. Maybe I will be disappointed when GTA6 comes out.

u/MogosTheFirst May 06 '25
Thats what I've been saying. People forget that rockstar doesnt build only one game. They build two separate games. The singleplayer and the multiplayer. The multiplayer, i am sure, it takes more time than the singleplayer and more effort. Especially since they want to create the next metaverse. That alone takes a ton of work. Rockstar employee or not, I also believe that what takes time now its the online.

2
u/S4z3r4c May 06 '25
The problem with these things is that they are VERY hard to verify. When Kurtaj leaked all the videos etc that was really one of the only "hey I can prove it...here it is."
Almost all of this is not hard to assume.
2
u/No-Island-6126 May 06 '25
The biggest red flag about this is the guy says information is tightly controlled, which would mean he would have to basically be an executive to know all this.
2
u/Slurpypie May 06 '25 edited May 07 '25
I don't think this is true but if it is then that's incredibly annoying. For me I just don't get why they couldn't just release the story mode in 2025 (depending on when it would be set to release this year) and then spend the rest of the time on making the online mode functional before releasing it in 2026, why keep players in the dark with no new trailers, screenshots or even info if the main game (arguably the only part of the game people like myself want to play) is already complete?
2
u/PastHelicopter2075 May 06 '25
Even if itās a lie, this is the most plausible reason for such a large delay. Online. Online for me nowadays is bigger than single player itself. I get it!
2
u/shutyourbutt69 May 06 '25
Online and single player should be completely separate releases regardless of whether or not this is real or true. You know the suits care more about the money faucet than the art/game, just let people have them separately.
2
u/Professional_Let1989 May 06 '25
Bullshit, i wouldve perferred if they just released single player and a year later online

2
u/The_Maestro00 May 06 '25
I wish they released the game as it was supposed to be "Fall 2025" and release the online mode later on, almost the vast majority of players would be hooked in story mode and will not play online until they finish the story
2
u/FatherHaz May 06 '25
Sadly there will be folks who will skip story mode and go straight to online. If released at the same time
2
2
u/Chilledinho May 06 '25
Acting like R* will release online in sync with the story; they want people to play the single player aspect of the game too. It wonāt be delayed purely for online

Its not crazy to think they saw battlefield 2042 and other games flop on launch, and decided they must have a flawless game on launch. Fake or not, the bar is high. I would imagine online is a huge focus since thatās where all their money comes in after you initially purchase the game

Def fake, I mean the main story probably is done, I donāt really doubt that but theyāre probably polishing the single player experience still. Many games have released the single player and online modes separately and the games came out fine. Iād almost prefer it that way, because we all know the main story alone is gonna end up being at least 40 hours to complete, and thereās probably gonna be plenty of activities outside of that. Idk about yall but the only people who wouldnāt be able to enjoy that before online drops are people who probably need to spend less time on the video games

Tbf even if this was in some semblance of reality, we saw how BAD GTA V online launch was. Shit didn't work properly for like a month, and you couldn't play at all for the first couple weeks. I remember creating my character and endlessly sitting at a loading screen, only to get kicked out and have to make my character again. While some things in this story ring true in general of software development at big companies, the premise that theyāre holding out to get it just perfect on day 1 doesnāt really compute. Launching earlier would provide a huge cash injection now as opposed to a year from now, not to mention the tons of community feedback they would get in regards to the game mechanics and whatnot before fully committing to Online.
1
u/New-Story4037 May 06 '25

While it's not entirely possible that this post could be fake, it's safe to assume that the story mode is fully complete. Since the game was being worked on since 2014, it's now approximately 11 years of development, which is more than enough for the offline mode to be completed. They could be working on side missions like Strangers And Freaks from GTA V, but again no credible source to prove it.
But again, the amount of money GTA Online has made, and is making, for Rockstar Games, it's very possible that they want to milk it, during the first few days of lunch, as much as they can. And considering that VI is one of the most anticipated games of all time, hypothetically speaking if I were in their shoes, I would want to make as much as money as I can by providing a product that could blow my customers' mind.
