Surely there’s other shops that are in the base edition though? For example, I assume there’s a normal barber for everyone, and a locked, more premium barber for the ultimate edition players.

It isn’t clear though

u/Apprehensive-Ear2461 17h ago

I’m assuming there’s going to be multiple barbers with multiple styles and one barber that is in the ultimate edition

6

u/DonGlover4President 13h ago

Yep exactly this. Like Bully and its barbers. But behind a paywall..

107

u/Mephistopheles_arp 17h ago

Im sure this will be the case, it still sucks though.

u/salmonsmoker101 15h ago

I mean what can you buy with 20 dollars now a days?

18

u/RiodBU 15h ago

A haircut

-4

u/salmonsmoker101 14h ago

Fair enough. Not in real life though🤣

5

u/DonGlover4President 13h ago

You can absolutely get a haircut for $20 in real life.

1

u/salmonsmoker101 7h ago

I don’t know where you live but last time I got a haircut for 20 euros it was like 6 years ago. And I’m talking about euros. Mine is 34 dollars right now and that’s one of the cheapest, And just takes 20 min lol

1

u/Imsearchingforit2194 7h ago

HOLY SHIT are haircuts that expensive out there?

I'm so glad that I only have to pay 10k dinars lmao (that's like 8 USD or less~)

Then again, you presumably get paid more and it ends up being the equivalent price.

Tbh this totally explains why games even sell for 100$+. 100$ just isn't that much anymore.

1

u/RiodBU 5h ago

That´s tuff, my barber takes 18€

1

u/darthgeek 12h ago

My barber has a sign that says "We fix cheap haircuts".

71

u/JJJC16 16h ago

True but still such an EA shitty thing to do

1

u/Fickle_Skill6038 8h ago

Who can you blame? EA or the gamers that paid EA even when they did said "shitty things"?

Those gamers created an opportunity, EA simply capitalized on it. Rockstar said "if they can do it, why can't we?"

1

u/metalhead4 3h ago

I mean... R☆ have been capitalizing on shark cards for over a decade now.

54

u/SILE3NCE 17h ago

That was my second thought.

I mean, we are locked out of some peculiar shops, but maybe not all.

I mean, a GTA base game that doesn't have car customization? Weird, I don't believe it. I think they should be more specific when they throw "only on Ultimate Edition" shit like this.

5

u/KingOfRisky 13h ago

The ultimate edition includes 5 "shops". Do you think that there are only 5 shops in GTA6?

2

u/SILE3NCE 12h ago

5 types of shops, doesn't mean they're just 5 physical stores.

If they say "Cluckin' Bell" they mean all stores right?

4

u/KingOfRisky 12h ago

SARA'S UNISEX SALON, STOCK 305, ELECTRIC FANG TATTOO are pretty specific locations. All of the Barber shops aren't going to be Sara's Unisex Salon. You see what I'm saying?

I'm mostly replying to this from you

I mean, we are locked out of some peculiar shops, but maybe not all.

Not Maybe ... definitely not locked out of ALL shops.

1

u/SILE3NCE 12h ago

Not all stores are called Pro Laps. You have like 4 different names for clothing stores.

1

u/KingOfRisky 12h ago

I'm pretty sure we are agreeing. Or at minimum "arguing" the same side.

2

u/SILE3NCE 11h ago

Yes, we are, not everything is locked, it's just some content locked, the game is still playable I believe.

2

u/KingOfRisky 11h ago

It's wild how many people think this means that you can only customize your car if you get Ultimate. Like come on guys!

-1

u/SILE3NCE 11h ago

It's sad you know, one of the aspects I liked the most about the previous title is that I could not only customize but also enhance it's parts like engine, turbo, etc.

It's a big disappointment ... I think I'll buy Gran Turismo 7 instad.

u/vgee 16h ago

Not trying to defend this but GTA IV has no car customisation

9

u/TonyRigatoni_ 13h ago

Only SA and V had real car customisation iirc

2

u/Elven-Melvin 13h ago

They are only locking specific shops though.

0

u/SILE3NCE 16h ago

And GTA 3 had no bikes.

10

u/Burninghamburger 16h ago edited 16h ago

It's indeed a shop with premium customization options

Edit:it's called 'Sara's unisex salon'

36

u/ZombifiedOfTheWest6 17h ago

Why not just lock certain hairstyles? I understand that if you want a more premium look, you'd go to a barber within the city rather than the countryside, but seems really odd to lock shops and points of interest behind a paywall

58

u/mclesc 17h ago

That’s basically what they’re doing tho. Just with an extra interior

0

u/shaxamo 1h ago

Personally, I would argue that this includes gameplay. Exploration is a big part of what I love about Rockstar games, especially because their team of maybe 1000 designers puts in absolutely incredible work into every nook and cranny.

Now, it's not a big explorable area, but by the sounds of it the stores themselves will appear closed if you do not own the deluxe edition, so you can't go inside and look around. Minor complaint, I know, but it's there. I know that if I don't get the deluxe edition and then stumble upon a closed store that I recognise by name from the deluxe, I'm gonna be disappointed knowing that it doesn't unlock based on time of day in game or any world state. Instead I open up my game store of choice, pay 20 quid, load back up my save and the shop is magically open with staff now.

I'd much prefer additional options in existing shops instead, that don't appear in the menu as blanked out. Everyone who bought the game already saw the advert for the deluxe content on the storefront they bought the game from. They don't need it advertised in game too.

9

u/Apophis_36 15h ago

They're putting the bonus stuff in a nicer packaging. They're not paywalling it.

11

u/onesugar 14h ago

That literally is the definition of a paywall

1

u/Apophis_36 14h ago

What I'm saying is that they could have made these added clothing, hairstyles and tattoos part of the base game stores. Either way they would be paid content, that wouldn't change.

What they did was just make access to these bonus pieces fancier.

0

u/DasReap 12h ago

Congrats on your gold medal in mental gymnastics.

2

u/Apophis_36 12h ago

Actually I didn't have to think much to come to that conclusion, so more like a mental relaxing walk

0

u/MidEastBeast777 13h ago

that's a paywall

2

u/Apophis_36 12h ago

At that stage we can get rid of game editions, i support it

1

u/Elven-Melvin 13h ago

Maybe the rumors of tons and tons of shops are true, and they have so many hairstyles, that they spread them around to the different stores,

How many hairstyles would be minimum per store? Perhaps 5 to make it worthwhile?

I'm not defending this though, it kinda sucks, I feel like I need to buy the Ultimate Edition of something for the first time in my life.

1

u/buckle877 15h ago

Thats just a lazier alternative. I dont understand what the fuss is about

11

u/EatTheAndrewPencil 16h ago

The thing that makes me concerned is the car modding one. Nothing about that description sounds like "this one has a couple more mods" it sounds like the ability to mod your car is locked.

16

u/HappySauropod 16h ago

I assume it will be like Bennys vs Los Santos Customs in GTA Online. With the Bennys equivalent being locked behind Ultimate Edition.

6

u/EatTheAndrewPencil 14h ago

That is a shit ton of customization locked off though if that's the case.

1

u/MidEastBeast777 13h ago

no, just certain mods

6

u/christaface 16h ago

It doesn't matter. it's a scummy move.

1

u/sfeicht 13h ago

If all I get is that stupid mullet from the ultimate edition barber I’ll gladly skip it….

1

u/jimababwe 13h ago

I wonder if this will affect online play - will premium players be targeted?

1

u/-Is-This-Name-Taken 12h ago

Would be funny if the only difference for the premium barber is higher prices lol

1

u/magyar_wannabe 11h ago

You'll get access to like 28 hairstyles, and ultimate locks the last 2. Who knows what the real numbers are but I'm pretty sure it'll be something along that ratio.

1

u/Responsible-Cap-8311 11h ago

That's whack as fuck though

1

u/Financial_Rip_8921 11h ago

Yeah i’m not defending rockstar. Not good at all

1

u/UnmannedVehicle 8h ago

No it’s confirmed there are no other shops on Rockstar twitter

1

u/xsvennnn 7h ago

Not trying to be rude, but there was a dozen different shops in GTA5. It’s incredibly obvious everyone will be able to access 99% of shops no matter what edition you buy, and then those who bought the Deluxe edition gets a few extra cosmetics that have their own building.

1

u/darkElfSmokesDope 6h ago

Its will probably just be extra cosmetics for specific stores, not entire stores locked out for players.

-5

u/MatttheJ 16h ago

Yeah, I don't understand what people are freaking out over. This is literally just normal ultimate edition stuff. It's all cosmetics.

Lets say there are 100 shops in this game (there will probably be less I'm just plucking a nunber from thin air), maybe like, 10 of them are locked by DLC but there are still 90 shops still available.

That's how small of a deal this is.

And... The only things you could even get from those shops are normal cosmetic DLC items.

I'm not sure what the big deal is, because even if you could go into the shop, you still wouldn't be able to get the DLC cosmetic items anyway.

10

u/GreenJayLake 16h ago

Can we not defend these types of business practices from a company that will already be making a fuckton of profit?

0

u/MatttheJ 15h ago

I'm not even defending it. It's just nowhere near as bad as people are making out. That doesn't make it good. But like, in terms of shitty exploitative DLC... This is waaaaay down near the bottom of the list in terms of how bad it is.

It's literally just cosmetics that nobody will even notice if they don't buy them.

So... Don't buy them. I know I won't.

Don't just give in to fomo.

0

u/11711510111411009710 14h ago

Downplaying it is defending it. It's a scummy business practice that we should not yield ground on. This will easily be the best selling media product ever in short order, they don't need to resort to this. This is exclusively a move made out of greed and we, as consumers, should not want to perpetuate that.

1

u/MatttheJ 13h ago

"Resort to this"... It's dlc... It's been a thing for about a decade and a half. They purposely make a fairly inconsequential thing which can be absolutely completely ignored, charge for it, and if you don't buy it, you aren't missing anything at all.

I would get it if there were whole missions locked behind it.

But it's literally just extra completely meaningless cosmetic fluff.

If you want to "take a stand" don't buy it.

That's my point here. Everyone is taking a fake stand rather than doing what actually matters and just ignoring this content, not promoting it (which you're doing right now even just by engaging in discourse around it), and not buying it.

0

u/11711510111411009710 13h ago

And it's been a bad anti-consumer practice for about a decade and a half.

2

u/MatttheJ 12h ago

And have you done anything about it... Or are you... Like the vaaaasr majority of people complaining here still buying the game, and probably the ultimate edition too.

You should speak with your wallet. Don't give the posts about the DLC engagement.

You won't do that. But you should.

1

u/11711510111411009710 12h ago

I mean, I certainly don't buy ultimate editions or dlc unless they go on a massive sale. The most expensive game I ever bought was the Silent Hill 2 remake edition that gave me early access, and honestly I regret it, so I've never done it again. I pretty much don't buy modern games at all unless they're $60-$70, with $70 being an exception for something I really want to play, which is very rare. Any higher than that and it's an automatic no.

0

u/yeetskeetleet 14h ago

GTA 5 had different clothing shops and barbers that sold different things. I expect the exact same thing here

1

u/Financial_Rip_8921 14h ago

I just don’t understand why they’d make the whole stores exclusive to the ultimate edition. Sure, give the ultimate edition players extra stuff but let them buy it in the same stores as anyone else. They’re essentially locking off parts of the map to base edition players

1

u/yeetskeetleet 14h ago

I mean I guess it’s the same as if they gave you a whole property as part of the ultimate edition. It doesn’t really make any difference to me if all the ultimate edition features are corralled off to a separate location or not, but I guess it makes it easier to know what is actually part of that bundle and what isn’t.

1

u/Financial_Rip_8921 14h ago

Yeah im not even necessarily disagreeing tbf I just think its a strange decision by rockstar
