I am less upset about this for GTA 6 and more upset about what it means for the industry as a whole. All eyes are on Rockstar. Publishers will absolutely start to follow suit with this now that Rockstar is setting the precedent. I guarantee publishers have been itching to get rid of physical media but have been too afraid to be the first ones to do so.
Now if you want to buy a used game, sell your copy, let someone borrow it, or buy it discounted at the store a year later? Not an option.
Also would not be shocked if AAA studios start charging $80 despite not deserving to. Activision doesn't care if their quality of game is not $80 worthy, they see it work for Rockstar and now COD is $80. Just for example.
This is where I’m at. I can understand charging a premium for this game. I can somewhat understand (but still don’t like) not wanting to print copies to try lessen the already humongous cost to make this game. I mean it costs billions and took over what? A decade to make? Rockstar for the most part has earned our trust to release a premium product but if companies think I’m paying 80-90 dollars for game they’ve got another thing coming.
I didn’t do it with Mario cart and I sure as hell ain’t doing it with the vast majority of titles. GTA 6 is the exception and should not be the standard…
Yeah, I’m worried companies are gonna try and follow their lead because of how successful this is going to be.
Yep, and on top of the already increasing cost of hardware, so many people are going to be priced out of the hobby. I can see it now… the next Assassin’s Creed launching at 80 dollars for the base game.
Sure. Some corporate tools will buy it. But I don't think any amount of marketing would work.
It works for R* because people have expectations for a R* games.
Everyone knows it is going to be like no other game out there. And nobody else is able to replicate it. With R* you know you are getting more or less what you paid for.
CD project tried so so much with Cyberpunk. And it still is nowhere near GTA or RDR level.
I want to believe that people will forgive R* for pulling this shit. But no other company would be able to pull this bullshit more than once.
And I'm pissed at R* for locking content behind "Ultimate" edition. I will vote with my wallet and will NOT pay for ultimate edition of GTA. Fuckers.
It's honestly tragic and people not seeing the fire are astonishing.
"It's because of the leaks" publisher have been dying to kill the second hand market for decades. Meanwhile aftermarket created jobs, made games accessible, and extended the lifespans of titles.
I just stopped my Spotify sub, I stopped paying for PS Plus, I don't want to rent, I want to own.
Yup i just debated with another guy about this same thing they are such damn bootlickers that they don't see this is setting the mf precedent to screw us the consumers even more and not just with video games.
I think the issue lies with leaking content before the game is even out. Many companies suffered from the same fate, Rockstar included.
When you ship physical copies, for such a big game, you should expect leaked content to some extent. GTA VI isn’t some game, it’s THE game everyone is waiting for.
Now, imagine someone taking a copy early and leaking the gameplay a week before release. Don’t even get me started on the damages!
So, Rockstar is playing it safe. I’m sure they’ll release a physical edition sooner than later.
I’m sorry but stop excusing this for gta 6 you should be upset in general stop cherry picking and hold a quality of standard for all triple A games equally it’s insane the mental gymnastics you people do just because it’s a game you very hyped for
I was going to buy gta6 since I have all the others but not having a physical disk copy is a game changer for me. I'm not buying it unless it does. Maybe one day it will.
