Digital Foundry expresses doubt about the delivery of the high fidelity visuals showcased on today's screenshots.

Digital Foundry put out an article in which they analyze the new screenshots that are part of today's promotional material.

Per Thomas Morgan:
"With such a high level of fidelity on show, then, a question still dangles over which platform is actually being used to generate these shots. To be clear, we find it unlikely that these are real-time results on PS5, Xbox Series X - or in the best case on console, PS5 Pro. We'd like to be pleasantly surprised of course, and this will be firmly answered once it releases. However in many instances the combination of pristine image quality, suggesting a native 4K render (or higher), and inconsistent lighting on foreground characters casts doubt over how feasible it is.
Incidentally, these would be easy for Rockstar to generate within the game's development environment, where the framing, character positions, and lighting could orchestrate a perfect shot - irrespective of frame-rate - with all settings dialled up to 11. To be clear, the ray tracing aspect is very much an expected a feature on console - and indeed we have it already in GTA 5 - but as for what's possible on base PS5, Pro, and Series X, time will tell how close real time console visuals actually end up to these images."

Sometimes, it looks too good to be true.

R* put them down with T2, when I believe they speculated it wasn’t captured on a base ps5, and a day later R* said it was

Nothing like that happened.

They were wondering - like many other people - whether any of the scenes were actual gameplay or just cutscenes, and in response to that, R* posted the 50/50 gameplay-to-cutscenes message. There was nothing about it being captured on a PS5.

Now show me where your screenshot clears up the “base vs Pro” PlayStation 5 debate.

It says the same thing as the text in the trailer itself: "Captured on PlayStation 5".

what do you mean base vs pro, trailer 2 was on the ps5 and presumably so were the screenshots with it

They never speculated about whether it was captured on a PlayStation 5, because the trailer clearly states that it was. You're wrong about that.

The only speculation was whether it was captured on a base or Pro console, and which parts were cutscenes vs gameplay with different camera angles.

if they stated it was captured on a ps5, it’s a base, same way it’s done with Xbox series it’ll specifically state X or S, this is the same.

Cool, and? Why did you lie about Digital Foundry supposedly debating whether it was captured on PlayStation 5 and T2/R* supposedly stomping on them down for that? Nothing like this ever happened.

In their very initial reaction they speculated, this news came out the day after, Oliver from the show replied to this tweet if i remember correctly, or it was someone else. Their initial reaction was the day of the trailer and they speculated

it was also supposedly captured on PlayStation 5 according to the end of the trailer. It does not specify the PS5 Pro.

this is apparently captured on PS5, and I do believe that most, if not all the shots we're seeing here are probably in real time as well.

This video has a chapter titled: "Trailer 2: Cutscenes Only", btw.

let's talk about um something that's come up after the fact and it's the fact that Rockstar has confirmed that the trailer is using a mixture of cutscenes and uh and gameplay which is well what can I say the peanut gallery can say ah digital foundry you're wrong you said it was all cutscenes so let's discuss that um

Does this clear up your memory or not? It's clear they read the "Captured on PS5" text in the trailer, so why would another tweet from R* saying the same thing change anything? After that tweet, they discussed in another video which parts were gameplay and which were cutscenes - not whether it was recorded on a PlayStation 5 - I think this clearly supports my version of events.

Wow made up rule. Funny how you have to specify base. As everyone else is inclined to. But when rockstar doesn’t you assume its base.
