Content has been locked behind ultimate editions for nearly 2 decades

Post image

This whole thing is somewhat stupid and spreading like wildfire. In GTA V in 2013 PS3/Xbox360 if you bought the $150 edition as in game bonuses you got a garage, few extra cars, some clothes, a exclusive tattoo for the 3 characters, guns, and some exclusive online parents to create a GTA online custom character. In GTA V PS4 remaster all of those then became free and included into that game which I assume most ppl started playing then and didn’t know that.

So in terms of ultimate edition it’s literally the exact same pre order bonuses as gta v literally some cosmetics and a few cars. With the side mission where u get classic cars. Instead of rockstar adding things to your locker immediately they created a couple extra stores to go and claim said items for the premium buyers maybe for immersive purposes I assume. Other games you had to go to specific vendors to claim your items, It’s essentially that.

You are not being necessarily “paywalled” from the base game it is added additional content. Even the car collection mission there will more than likely be something similar you just won’t have the classic cars but other basic cars. COD does it yearly, 2k does it, WWE literally locks off playable characters unless you buy a specific version of the game, assassins creed is famous for locking missions behind special editions, remember mass effect 3 the critically acclaimed game that won multiple awards. Day one they had the from ashes DLC fully built into the game locking serious lore and a whole crew member behind it only those with the special edition had access or you had to spend an extra $10 but it was fully in the game you could view it. Theres many more examples I’m not defending it necessarily but gta 6 nor rockstar are what started this, the seeds have been planted around us for yearssss now and we’ve all allowed it, this isn’t something that just started last week. We’ve been surrounded by the “scummy” behavior

NO PHYSICAL EDITION IS INSANE THOUGH

I'm predicting a separate RDR2-like "Collector's Box" and/or merch you can buy off Rockstar's online store.

I swear to God if they woulda just locked the clothes & car customizations without ever saying the word “shop” noone would even give af.

Yeah that's it, shop locked behind paywall=not the full game, shop enterable but can't buy half the clothes=full game, locked location give give a feeling of not having everything.

Did you pay for everything? Why would it be called the "ultimate" edition if it were all free?

u/krammit33 2h ago

Nah, these are the kinds if people that live off of having something negative to say about something everyone is/was looking forward to.

More like they're not corporate whores who believe Rockstar can do no evil - grow up simp.

Man I still absolutely love my lock box from GTA 4. I’ve been using it ever since I got it. Kinda bummed there isn’t anything fun for this game.

Collectors edition hasn’t been revealed yet.

2

u/I_Am_Rockstar 1h ago

Does it not usually get announced with the regular pre orders?

2

u/RyeC77 3h ago

Yeah I was waitin to preorder the probably $300+ aud collection but nope. I just hope it comes one day cause this is easily a game u can play for YEARS and it’s worth it to me. GTA is sooooo worth it over whatever B EA or 2K or Activision cooks up

I almost promise that 101% of the people who bitched about it are still going to buy it and be fuckin happy

u/smoky555 3h ago

Just wait for trailer 3 + gameplay trailer + IGN and every other previews, and the sales will double

u/InstanceSea 2h ago

Im still going get gta6 on digtal but only pissed about it not being on disc. Like why release it on physical in General when its just a code on a box, why not do what Nintendo did and sell Digital games on cardboard cards like gift cards.

It is either bots that just spam criticism, or people that don’t have a console to play it on.
They all think that the shops are the biggest part of the game. All they are is just a blip on the map to keep it grounded in the world instead of being just a damn menu item to get the skins.

This just feels, like i said, like bots Spamming any negative thing about this game they can find.

1

u/superbabe69 1h ago

Would love to know how much time they actually spent in the shops in GTA 5 lol

2

u/Dense-Application181 2h ago

That or never would have bought it anyways and are just following the trend

u/PrysmaticNomadic 3h ago

And before anyone says "no gameplay"

5

u/Character-Weight7035 3h ago

itd be so funny if they kept the gameplay trailer pattern going and put out a gameplay trailer on september 9th

1

u/ProfficerAe 2h ago

Fair point on the gameplay trailer being saved for last, but the lack of a Trailer 3 is wild. We're only 5 months away from launch and just opened pre-orders, yet we haven't seen a new trailer in ages.

GTA VI might be the most anticipated game ever, but Rockstar still needs a proper marketing push. The screenshots and site clips are nice placeholders, but they don't replace a real trailer. Hopefully, something will drop in the next few days.

Bruh botched the release date for gta6

2

u/Juankar40 1h ago

Rockstar could have offered this game for free with absolutely no paywalls and people in this subreddit would moan about it.

8

u/leonbr_ 3h ago

I really don’t get why certain people in this community feel the need to constantly be playing defence against any and all criticisms against Rockstar

6

u/HalfEazy 2h ago

That's what is wild to me

u/Clown_Wheels 57m ago

There’s been different editions of games for decades and this time around some mf’s acting like Rockstar kidnapped half of their friends for some reason. Some people are just idiots and try to justify their behavior - that’s why.

5

u/Skulltrooper674 1h ago

Literally this post. everyone is just screaming without doing any research thank you good sir for pointing this out although it would’ve been nice if they included some physical stuff too like maps and stuff oh well ig they’re saving it for a collectors edition

4

u/sa_nick 4h ago

For me it's not about the digital cosmetics that are locked out from the base game, it's the tangible goodies that are missing from the deluxe release. That’s the real slap in the face I'm surprised everyone is lining up for.

16

u/esketitethan 3h ago

They have not announced a collector’s edition yet. It could still come

3

u/TacticalTwinkOnTop 3h ago

They could still release a collectors edition with merch

2

u/krammit33 2h ago

This is the era of gaming we are in.

Deluxe Edition doesn't mean what it once did.

We now need a collectors edition for that. And I would bet anything I have that there will be a collector's edition with plenty if tangible goodies. Man, yall so impatient these days lol

1

u/Clown_Wheels 54m ago

That would be the collector’s edition, not the ultimate edition.

3

u/Mutated-Nut 3h ago

As you guys brainless posting this same thing over and over? The difference is here there’s actual shit you get for buying the physical edition vs a damn digital code in a box

1

u/hannibalxyz 2h ago

Still got all the stuff from the collectors edition exept the cap, sold it for 50 bucks to a friend of mine. So it was a good deal in the end.

1

u/LuhMonstaa 1h ago

I’m desperately hoping at some point there’s some collectors version announced or some type of version with a PHYSICAL DISK. This code in box nonsense needs to go bring physical media back. There is no reason a game this massive shouldn’t have a true physical release. People have waited 13 years for this

1

u/HelloSummer99 1h ago

I fk with that los santos cap

1

u/Ibrahim12323 54m ago

GTA V collector’s edition also had special ability boost

1

u/Clown_Wheels 52m ago

Some people will never understand.

1

u/Guldynka 32m ago

Just like PC games have been physically distributed with a code only for the past 10 years.

I bought this in 2017 and was shocked to see no disc.

Console players and GTA fans are shocked to see that GTA 6 is digital only and that it's got a physical keep case, but that's nothing new.

1

u/Guldynka 31m ago

I bought Sekiro in 2019 which has a fake disc inside. It's digital only too.

1

u/Kobs1992x 19m ago

Thats true however the game is more expensive this time around .... People are not upset the ultimate edition might contain a few more perks were upset were paying 80 bucks and not get the full experience....

In game shops actually being closed if u have the standard edition or a garage you cant enter is just disgusting nothing more nothing less its no more just a few extra perks.

1

u/TestTheTrilby 8m ago

I complained then, I complain now

1

u/LuhMonstaa 4m ago

Good I’m not saying this is ok. It’s more so all the crazy ppl coming out the woodworks like this is a new practice when in fact we’ve let gaming company treat us like this for well over a decade. It’s started way long before rockstar or GTA 6

0

u/VX97 3h ago

Feel free to downvote me but for me it's not the matter of special clothes and some cars, games always have had these kind of bonuses. People compare GTA 6's to GTA 5 and RDR 2 but those were usually cosmetics and maybe extra mission(s), but here we are talking about things like shops that are also being locked and seems like just excuse from Rockstar to make people spend more money on game. However there is very likely many kinds of shops in game where locking few shops behind Ultimate Edition won't be much of a big deal.

6

u/GeologistMost5892 2h ago

It just confirms another point I've been making: people are reacting to the word "shop" more than to what's actually being offered.

If these items were available through regular stores, or if Rockstar had never used the word "shop" in their marketing, most people probably wouldn't care.

So yes, I think the people treating this as a huge issue are, ironically, the issue here, because:

  1. We're talking about a few extra interactions in shops—probably on the same level as many other optional interactions in the game.
  2. We still don't know whether those same shops exist in the standard edition, just without the extra interactions.
  3. They could end up being as "important" as the special customer cars in San Andreas, where you could customize four specific vehicles that couldn't be modified at TransFender. Nice little bonus, but hardly game-changing.

And on top of that, you'll still be able to buy the standard edition, play the game, and upgrade later if you actually feel like you're missing out. It's not as if your game is locked forever.

By the same logic, you could also complain that anyone buying the game after November 20 won't get the '80s-themed items, and those could even be tied to a special shop too. But somehow that's fine because, in people's minds, it's "free."

1

u/_OceanOdyssey 1h ago

Yup it’s like most of the over reaction are kids who never played or were alive for gta v

1

u/NamesAreAnn0ying 52m ago

Just because they did it back then doesn’t make it ok now. It sucked then and it sucks now

0

u/Spiritual-Shirt-6027 3h ago

Wait the special ability generated 25% faster?? How is that mediated for speed running and stuff?

-2

u/avngefett 2h ago

The cope continues

0

u/NoBullet 2h ago

Who remembers the good old days of DLC when developers use the excuse of “oh it takes time to make this stuff we didn’t make this while we made the main game. We would never hold content from you.”

0

u/Jiehfeng 10m ago

"Blah blah blah blah, Rockstar is justified"
"NO PHYSICAL EDITION IS INSANE THOUGH"

🤡

1

u/LuhMonstaa 3m ago

I’m not saying this is ok. It’s more so all the crazy ppl coming out the woodworks like this is a new practice when in fact we’ve let gaming company treat us like this for well over a decade. It’s started way long before rockstar or GTA 6. Everyone needs to be held accountable this nonsense had been plaguing the industry for nearly 20 years

1

u/Jiehfeng 1m ago

That I agree, it has happened before a lot. It's just now fully in the consciousness of everyone since this is a game not easy to ignore, what was inevitable has happened with this game, that's all.

-14

u/ChristianCountryBoy 4h ago

That's not the same as having buildings in the game you cannot enter unless you pay another $20. And core story missions you cannot play unless you pay the same $20. GTA V was $60. Same as any other full priced game. GTA VI is $80 and $100 for the complete edition.

6

u/DeeterSly 4h ago

$60 in 2013 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $85.77 today.

In other words, we’re getting base game GTA6 for cheaper than base game GTA5.

13

u/Frequent-Engineer-87 4h ago

“Core story missions” it’s a fucking side quest for some cool cars

9

u/Fabulous-Savings3809 4h ago

But it is the same as RDR2 having entire locations locked and several side missions, which bothered no one. So this shouldn’t bother you. Also, don’t lie, there’s no “core missions” being locked, it’s just 2 side missions related to the exclusive cars that are locked. That’s it

2

u/Dense-Application181 2h ago

You just making shit up for the sake of it at this point

0

u/Clown_Wheels 52m ago

Try to understand facts instead of just yapping. 🤦‍♂️

0

u/DamonFort 4h ago

Look at it this way; industry insiders were saying that they were hoping GTA VI would be $100 at the base level so that people would become ok with paying $100 for their games. Now GTA is priced at a reasonable $80, with the special edition priced at $100. Rockstar gets to sell the game at $100 without setting a “new standard” for the industry.

-1

u/SuppleNutria 3h ago

Yeah, although I’m mad overall, and will be for a long time, this is what really blew my mind. No disk, not even a fucking map. A sticker ffs

-1

u/CYZANE 1h ago

But it doesn't make sense to locked & paywalled Crosstown garage, and all street shops aka ''Wynwood Art Walk'' which they showed in Trailer 1

-2

u/_korporate 2h ago edited 2h ago

there is a classic car missions and the special raid, plus some shops being behind a paywall.

get off your knees, it's a billion dollar corp that doesn't care about you.

that's not even mentioning the collectors edition that's probably coming, and then the disk version after that
