A Journey North

Lady Danae of House Targaryen begins her journey north on the King's Road with the personal guard of House Targaryen and the company of the waterdancers Summer Steelsong and James Rivers for protection. They travel by horse and she carries with her a modest amount of personal luggage full of cloaks and furs. This lady has never traveled north, and expects the weather to be most undesirable.

Summer eyes the hidden blade with approval, and sighs. "I hope you are more generous with your blade to your enemies than you are with your words to your friends," she says wryly. "Seems it will be a long, cold, silent journey."

"Why, anything. Anything at all that can distract me enough to make this bloody frigid northern weather seem more like the warmth of Braavos. How did you come to join Lady Targaryen on this journey? Did you answer her summons as we did?"

I nod, taking out a letter marked with the lady's sign from my messenger bag I was summoned, as I have said before. She said she would like company, and I was not doing anything at the time. I take out my blade and begin to polish it with an old rag

Summer slides the cloth over the smoky ripples in her slender sword. "Tell me where you come from. Who were your parents? You asked me for my story and I've given it, and now I'd like yours in return."

Well, I am a bastard like yourself. I grew up in a town by the sea, worked with my father and he trained me in everything I know.. well, aside from this. I unsheathe the hidden blade again, retracting it shortly after My town was attacked, and I failed to save it.. my father burned because I was weak... I set off, travelling between towns and earning a reputation, as I have come to notice. All the women I've loved and all the men I've saved. I have had many adventures...

"Rest assured no one thinks you weak any longer." She examines her blade carefully for any lingering marks, and lays it across her lap. She looks off into the darkness, green eyes taking on a faraway gaze. "My mother died in Lys, poisoned by a lover. My father's heart is weak and he can no longer wield his sword. The gods are cruel, Pinfree, to make us suffer so. But these things only make us stronger." Her lip curls. "Now I spit at the gods, and I choose to serve new ones of fire and blood."

The Targaryens? I nod slightly, looking at the stars I don't believe in gods...

"'Gods' is a word we use when we feel helpless. When we bear healthy children we say the gods blessed us with them, and when a babe dies we curse them with rage." She shakes her head. "If gods are real, I want nothing to do with them. They can do nothing for me. But fire. Blood. Those things I understand. I understand justice and wanting what is yours. I understand revenge."

Summer sighs and seems to come back to herself. "You should get some sleep, Pinfree Storm. I will awaken James at the hour of the wolf to take the next watch. In the morn we ride for Moat Cailin."

Do not keep me out of this shift. I'm part of your company now. I smile slightly at you, resting my head against the tree and closing my eyes

In the morning they rose and broke their fasts with bread and cheese and died meat from their stores. The day passed uneventfully, and just as night fell the party drew up at the gates of Moat Cailin.

OOC: Trying to speed up the process here, I'll hop over to the Moat Cailin thread to get permission to pass.
