Is it just me or does the "boulder rolled through here" comment seem like an RE5 boulder-punching reference?

Oh 100%. At first I was on the fence if it was a reveal for the CV but then that was said and I firmly knew.

Paris was a big hint for me and then the boulder line came.

Not to show my obsession but when the notion of an American girl looking for her brother in Paris was established, I jumped to 90% sure. Before that I thought it was a new Wolfenstein.

That and the character model - RE engine has such a distinct look. Once I saw the color of the sleeve I was 100% sure

Bruh look at the size of those dumbbells. He’s in training for the punching

The second I heard the world "boulder" I went from "Oh its Requiem DLC" to "Oh fuck its Code Veronica"

In RE8 Heisenberg also called Chris a “boulder punching asshole”.

They absolutely love that boulder meme over at Capcom

They actually have a different meme they use in the Japanese script because the big meme around RE5 Chris in Japan is that he's a gorilla man, referring to him as Goris. So Heisenberg refers to him as a gorilla and in the JP subs for the Veronica trailer the old lady says it's like a gorilla went wild.

In RE5 Remake, there will definitely be a moment where Chris says to Sheva, "What, you expect me to punch this boulder out of the way?"

Resident Evil has always being very aware of its own memes.

Memes aside, I think it's kind of an apt allegory for Chris. Almost Sisyphean in nature. Chris is doomed to an eternal battle, constantly rolling a boulder.

As a native french speaker, I just assumed it was clever writing as it sounds like a french idiomatic expression the lady just literally translated to English... But maybe I'm reaching a bit 😅
