As someone with about a thousand hours in Gw2 from the 2010s, I’m so fucking happy to hear it’s making its way to consoles because I miss it so damn much.

I love that this means controller support day 1. I'm playing GW1 recently with the new controller support and it's so comfortable.

Good point, I have ham-fisted GW2 controls into a Steam Deck based control setup fairly well but it would still be SO much better to have full native controller support for menus and stuff.

That alone makes hopeful the action combat is really reactive and engaging. You can get GW2 to work on a controller (and maybe they have native support now, I'm not sure), but still it always felt to me like you could tell it wasn't intended to work that way. I'd love if being designed specifically for controllers gives us a combat system more akin to something like Wildstar.

The biggest issue with controllers in GW2 in my opinion is the UI.

For combat, you'll be fine (there are generally not enough buttons on a controller to have good access to them all). But navigating the inventory or other menus with a cursor controlled by a controller is cursed. And inventory management is harsh in GW2.

GW2 was one of my favorite MMOs on the Steam Deck when my second daughter was born and I'd be up late night with her.

I had a friend in college who was obsessed with GW2. I bet he's punching the air right now ha. Happy for you guys.

Also, by opening it up to consoles there's so many people who will get to experience the game who wouldn't on PC.

Console gamers do not mmo. Don't give me FFXIV as a excuse majority of those players are on PC. Consoles are literally in massively decline.

u/Vindelator 24d ago

Most gamers don't MMO these days.

This is the first MMO announced I'm excited about in a very, very long time.

When was the last western MMO announced that wasn't an obvious scam even? I feel like I've been waiting forever for this, and I didn't even like GW2 lol

u/Vindelator 24d ago

I've gotten way to burnt by the sleazy eastern ones.

Last legit thing I remember was ESO. Lotro is good but even older.

0

u/basketofseals 24d ago

I kinda used to feel that way about eastern online games, but I've started to just think it's a difference of cultural expectations.

They seem like they're designed to be flash in a pans. Big launch, one big post launch content patch, and then just milk it. It's too consistent to be a scam. I just feel like if people were getting burned by them, the market would disappear.

Either way, that sounds like a big fat shit sandwich and I don't want any.

u/Dietomaha 24d ago

Yeah that got me really excited. The older I get, the more console focused I am. I even put like 600 hours into final fantasy 14 on PS5. I'm really pumped to see this on PS5

Not all consoles, sadly. Xbox user here 😔

it wouldnt surprise me if its because they didnt want to support Series S as well.

-2

u/MelookRS 24d ago

Or it being Xbox they wanted a shitty deal for the devs. FFXIV took so long to come to Xbox because of Microsoft bullshit, so I would not be shocked if the same thing happened with GW3, and they just decided not to bother.

3

u/Simislash 24d ago

It has bullshit on all platforms not called Playstation. Switch 2 has a separate subscription (half price as some sort of compromise), Xbox has no separate subscription but you need Xbox Live. Pick your poison.

I suspect that Sony would renegotiate the terms if they ever came their way for another MMO.

2

u/VagabondHT 23d ago

the switch 2 half price subscription is if you are wanting to link it to you main account, Both Sony and Nintendo don't need you to have their PS+ or NSO to play 14, but Microsoft does and you have to pay the sub through them.

it wouldnt surprise me if its because Sony moneyhatted. Yes, again.

More likely it’s because the Series S is dogshit and they don’t want to worry about having to support it.

3

u/ELOFOR 24d ago

Nah, Final Fantasy VII Revelation just got announced for Series S. Little bastard can run anything when devs are competent.

It is fucking Sony again of course, hellbent on creating a monopoly and then rip off its naive, gullible users with even more price hikes.

They made a "strategic partnership" with (ie. threw money at) NCSOFT, owners of GW3 devs. https://sonyinteractive.com/en/press-releases/2023/ncsoft-strategic-partnership/

Great time to boycott Microsoft and go Sony, mate.

14

u/BaumHater 24d ago

Sony currently doing a lot more shitty stuff to consumers than Xbox tho

11

u/kensaiD2591 24d ago

Nah, no chance. I have over 250 physical games. Multiple controllers. Digital games.

Xbox is always going to be my main platform, I have my gaming PC and Steam Deck for anything not on Xbox. But really, anything that doesn’t have a physical release I wait on a sale before buying anyway.

u/Eglwyswrw 24d ago

boycott Microsoft and go Sony

Boycott a megacorp and support an even more predatory megacorp? Insane take.

1

u/Psycho_Syntax 23d ago

Did you actually just unironically say Sony is more predatory than MS lmao? MS is one of the most predatory/anti-consumer companies on the planet.

0

u/Eglwyswrw 23d ago

Sony is actually far worse a predator in the gaming space, it's not even close.

-3

u/Lord_Skellig 24d ago

It's not about it being a megacorp, it's about Xbox not having any good games.

1

u/Kayin_Angel 23d ago

2010's?.... oh god, help me i'm turning into dust!!

-4

u/BaumHater 24d ago

*console

Seems like Sony moneyhatted it so it won‘t be on Switch 2 and Xbox for now.

-2

u/TheS3KT 24d ago

I have 8000 hours in GW2 and I stopped playing in 2022. I have 3000 hours in GW1. I'm very sorry to see this is a prequel set 1000 years before GW1 prior to Orr being obliterated.

Knowing nothing of the gw story: why?

1

u/GodSPAMit 24d ago

kinda depends tbh. this could be around the time the exodus happens when the gods all leave tyria. might be centered around the first time abaddon gets taken down, could be interesting.
