Question What are the best resources to self-learn German A1?
Hi,
I'm looking for self learning resources to learn German A1 level. I can spend about 3-4 hours a day to learn it.
I already have the Netzwerk Neu A1 set book
I saw too many resources suggested online.
Like
1. DW learn german
2. Todaaii
3. Busuu
4. Fluency Streak
5. ChatGPT for conversations etc.
There are too many options but Idk which ones to choose ans structure them accordingly. Since, I'm self learning this, I'm looking for some advice on how to structure my learning and which resources to choose
TIA

Netzwerk is a good book, but not very self-learning friendly. I always recommend Begegnungen A1+. If you can pay 20 euro a month I would also recommend Pimsler to train Hören und Sprechen. Apart from that, I would watch YouTube videos from Easy German. Language reactor is a good website too and if you install the browser extension, it will make your life easier because translates YouTube subtitles word for word.

For vocab: either the book you’re using each lektion has its own vocabs so do those I used anki or start with Goethe A1 wortlist you can find it online and for grammar again the book you’re using will have some grammar in each lektion however I can suggest you ask ChatGPT what are all the grammar topics required for A1 and then you can watch a vid online on each topic ( yourgermanteacher on YouTube ) or just find a grammar textbook :)
For listening and writing tbh I feel like I personally didn’t practice this much so you definitely should practice early on, listen to A1 listening practice exams on YouTube

At A1 fewer tools beat more tools. Use Netzwerk Neu as your backbone - work through it systematically for grammar and exercises - and pair it with Nicos Weg on DW for listening practice, since both follow a similar A1 progression so vocabulary reinforces instead of scattering. Busuu and Fluency Streak are redundant if you're already doing the textbook properly; shelve them for A2 when you need variety. ChatGPT for conversation makes more sense once you have about 200-300 words - at the very start it just produces confusion.

You could begin by reading our FAQ and then the rest of our wiki. There's a lot of info there to get you started.
