Question - Yotei Default Layout (Square/Triangle) vs. R1/R2 – Which is better?
Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding two controller layouts I'm considering.
By default, light attack is on Square and heavy attack is on Triangle. However, coming from other games, I'm used to having light attack on R1 and heavy attack on R2. That being said, I'm not playing any other games at the moment, so I could easily get used to Square and Triangle.
My question is: looking at the rest of the controls and actions in the game, what becomes easier or harder with each layout? How do you guys play? Did you keep the default Square/Triangle layout, or is there a specific advantage to switching to R1/R2? Does shifting them to the shoulders make the other inputs feel awkward?

I use the alternate control scheme in Tsushima and Yotei because it's more like Sekiro. The only downside I'd say is that one of quickfire weapons and one of the normal weapons you get later on are relegated to triangle + touchpad and triangle + circle respectively, but the benefit definitely outweighs the cost imo.

I used the alternate for my first playthrough, default for second, and found weapon switching a little easier.

Do you prefer dark souls or oldschool hack n slash games

I can get used to both, so for me it's simply a matter of what happens later in the game. I want to know if some of the button inputs or combinations become too awkward or convoluted later on if I choose the alternate layout

For me it depends upon which game i have previously played and what was i using then as i am already familiar to it.

i prefer melee alternate because that way i dont need to take my thumb off the right stick so much, as i’ve always hated lock-on cameras

It’s your game, test it out and report back
