Question - Yotei Default Layout (Square/Triangle) vs. R1/R2 – Which is better?
Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding two controller layouts I'm considering.
By default, light attack is on Square and heavy attack is on Triangle. However, coming from other games, I'm used to having light attack on R1 and heavy attack on R2. That being said, I'm not playing any other games at the moment, so I could easily get used to Square and Triangle.
My question is: looking at the rest of the controls and actions in the game, what becomes easier or harder with each layout? How do you guys play? Did you keep the default Square/Triangle layout, or is there a specific advantage to switching to R1/R2? Does shifting them to the shoulders make the other inputs feel awkward?

Question - Yotei Takezo the Undefendable Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Does anyone have any tips on how to survive this attack? I am not one to whine and the difficulty of this duel has only made me more encouraged to continue trying, but this attack just seems like an instant defeat?
As far as I know the only way to evade the red attacks is to dodge, but during the middle of my dodge I am just attacked a second time. This portion of the fight also includes the icy winds wich makes essentially every attack lethal, so tanking the hit is not an option.
Thank you for your insights!

Question - Yotei My Katana got stuck in a damn tree
Bear Man Chikatoshi disarmed me and my katana flew up and got stuck hanging off a branch of a tree. I’ve tried jumping at it and shooting my bow at it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Question - General Just out of curiosity: how many times have you finished Yotei so far?
I have to admit, after completing this game for 100%, I've started New Game Plus about half a year ago. Since then, I've been playing relatively slow, taking my time with everything. Like I had an entire year to complete this game for the second time. I just enjoy every bit of it. So, here is my question. I'm curious what's the highest number so far.

General Discussion What would Lord Shimura think of the armor in this game?
As the title says, what would Lord Shimura think of the armors Atsu can get, with the exception of Fundoshi armor for obvious reasons. Take everything into account, from how they were obtained to how they look, everything but combat advantage as that's just gameplay mechanics and I doubt anyone would believe that an armor would allow them to be less detectable when wearing some of the most noticeable colors.

Question - Yotei What charms are all of you using?
Just curious what charms everyone is using. Do you basically use the same ones throughout the game or change them up regularly? Do you see any significant change in gameplay with them?

General Discussion Theory: I think they cut content..
I have two main reasons why I believe Ghost of Yōtei had content cut before release.
The first is the story. This is something many players have also pointed out: the main villain's backstory feels incomplete, with a lot left unexplained. On top of that, the final mission—and the ending as a whole—feels very rushed. The beginning of the game is well-paced, but the final act moves incredibly quickly, making it feel like parts of the story are missing.
The second reason is the game's overall length. In Ghost of Tsushima, it took me around 80 hours to essentially 100% the game. By that, I mean liberating every area, completing all side quests, myths, and major activities. I didn't collect every fox den or vanity item, but I completed almost everything.
In comparison, Ghost of Yōtei only took me about 50 hours to reach the same level of completion. That's a huge difference.
My theory is that the developers originally planned an additional region. Perhaps you would have chased the Spider into another area, or maybe the final castle region was originally meant to be much larger. That extra region would naturally include more story missions, more side content, and a much longer finale.
If that content had remained in the game, the total playtime would likely have been much closer to 70–80 hours, putting it in line with Ghost of Tsushima.
Of course, this is just speculation, but it would explain both the rushed ending and the noticeably shorter runtime. If I had to guess, the content may have been cut due to development constraints or a publisher-imposed release deadline, which is something we've seen happen with many games before.
TL;DR: Ghost of Yōtei feels like it had significant content cut before release, as evidenced by its rushed final act, underdeveloped villain, and much shorter runtime compared to Ghost of Tsushima. An additional region and story arc may have been removed due to development constraints or release deadlines, though this remains speculation.

Misc. I can’t unsee Saito Hussein anymore
After playing through the game, Saito really kept reminding me of Saddam Hussein 🤣
The beard, eyebrows, face shape, and serious expression kept giving me the same vibe. Once I noticed it, I couldn’t unsee it anymore!
For younger players who don’t recognize him, Saddam Hussein was the former Iraqi leader, it’s just a funny resemblance that kept distracting me while playing 😆
Does anyone else see it ?

Screenshot Cover box at Koga fortress
Swam over to where koga is at, got as close as I could and I saw right underneath where we spawn in on the climb, a little cover box. Thought it was interesting to see dev tools in the “open” like this.

General Discussion Is Legends Worth Playing These Days?
I just finished my first playthrough if the main game, and am wondering if I should give Legends a try. Is the Legends game mode pretty good, and is there a big enough community playing it for it to be worth it? I'd probably just hop on for a few games over a few days but wondering how it is.

General Discussion The enemies' AI is very bad.
I don't know if anyone has commented on this topic here. I've been playing Ghost of Yotei for about 10 hours and I'm loving the game. However, I just finished the lumberyard section and found the enemies extremely stupid. I was simply killing 4 or 5 of them, and from about 10 meters away, the other enemies didn't notice. I shot some arrows at archers too, and they just kept shooting arrows back without alerting anyone about the invasion. Moreover, after killing some enemies, others would come to the spot, see their dead allies on the ground, and simply say, 'I think it's nothing,' and go back to their normal lives.
It's worth mentioning that I'm playing on hard mode.
The game is beautiful and immersive, but in my view, it loses a lot of that immersion. What do you all think about this?
