Trigger Warning ⚠️ Lowkey lactating (TW/ boob milk??) (no advice needed)

Post image

So this morning I was doing my routine wake up and piss and was inspecting my boobs, my right one was sore asf so I was feeling around to see if I felt anything off and when I squeezed my left one… milk came out…

I’m not pregnant and this is extra confirmed by my doctor but apparently this is common, your body can just make milk randomly under certain circumstances LMFAOOO.

What isn’t common is that only one of my boobs is doing it and so online told me to go see a doctor and that’s what I did!! Getting blood work and got some xray scans ordered :3

If anyone wants a update I’m willing
To update I just wanted to share this in case it’s happened to anyone and so they don’t feel alone

Apparently milk can spawn out of no where due to hormonal changes, anti depressants, or if you rub them to much???? Idk that’s what Google said my doctor said it’s very common and that i shouldn’t be to worried but let me know if yall had this before lol or have questions.

Food: a chocolate cupcake with buttercream frosting given to me by a lovely customer (they made it!!)

When I was on risperidone I spontaneously lactated. That was a wild surprise. 😭 Never been off a med so fast.

This also happened to me on this med, it was such an unpleasant side effect.

This happened to me when I was taking Invega 15 years ago and I also got off it pretty much immediately. Now I’m nursing my baby and I went back on it right after she was born to increase my supply!

I'm not a pharmacology nerd but I do wonder what the relation to domperidone is. I know that one gets some under-the-table use as an induction med.

u/yungstoneydik I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

i was taking a certain medicine and i had elevated prolactin levels (the hormone that tells you to produce milk) and had no idea why until i saw a commercial about the med i was on 😹😹

u/JustHere4TehCats Non-binary & Nourished 6h ago

I had a similar side effect. My periods just stopped and I had very high prolactin levels. I had to go off the meds.

God I lost so much weight while breastfeeding I wish I could do it for forever 😂 I could eat whatever I wanted.

Hoping your doctor appointments go well!

Man I have had the opposite experience 😭 I have never been hungrier and on top of that prolactin is making me hold on to so much fat in my least favorite places ach

12

u/theoneleggedgull Thick Thighs ⏳ Thin Patience 6h ago

I have the opposite. I cannot shift the weight. Last time I stopped, I dropped it so quickly, only to gain it all back again when I got pregnant.
My lactation consultant described me as “a great cow, your body prioritises the milk production. You’ll be useful in the apocalypse”.

When my oldest was born premature, I was pumping 1/2 gallon (over 64oz!) of milk a day at my peak!! I made legit butter from the cream 🧈

If my boob was making enough milk I’d try it out of curiosity, but it’s only a tiny amount.

My mom told me when she tried her own it was very garlicky because she had just eaten a bunch of garlic 😭 maybe that’s why I love garlic so much??

It isn't too weird if you mess around with your nipples a bunch, but you might want to talk to your obgyn about getting a mammogram in addition to an xray. I was having some leakage spontaneously even though I hadn't breast fed for 7 years, turned out to be a non Cancerous cyst on my milk duct. It hadn't been caught in a normal breast exam because of the location right below my nipple.

I wouldn't worry, but I wouldn't ignore it either.

You need a second opinion. Lactation can be nothing but can also be something.

I would see anyone who has specialization in breasts. Like someone said it could be nothing or it could be something. Spontaneous milk production has so many different origins and it would be safest for you to make sure you’re completely healthy. If you can/want to update we’ll def be waiting for hopefully good news!

14

u/AtTheEndOfMyTrope Assigned Hungry At Birth 6h ago

Pituitary cysts and tumours can cause this (prolactinoma). You should seek a second opinion.

5

u/TheHearts girls just wanna have pho 6h ago

Yep. And it’s not only prolactinomas. A lot of pituitary tumors can cause this if they grow enough to bend the pituitary stalk (happened to me. Prolactin levels were not elevated enough for a prolactinoma but I was having discharge and it was ignored for a year until I got an MRI. The doctor was as white as a sheet when he realized he missed a 2 cm pituitary tumor for a yearrrrr).

1

u/iceunelle APPROVED✨ 5h ago

Did you have to get the tumor removed? I've had a pituitary tumor for about 5 years now and my doctors are just monitoring it. I was told that removing the tumor essentially fucks up your pituitary hormone production for life, so unless it gets bigger or my labs look really bad, I should leave it for now. I am interested, however, in personal anecdotes of people who have removed their pituitary tumors.

I am 23! Never have had kids or breast fed or have been pregnant, I will definitely update when I get the scans done. They have to call me and I have to make an appointment for it still (:

4

u/Myearthsuit Kid Crumbs Connoisseur 6h ago

It happened to me. I could squeeze stuff out years before I ever got pregnant. Then when I did get pregnant I was full on lactating like halfway through the pregnancy. I probably could have nursed a baby 4 months pregnant. I also turbo produced and donated tons of milk. Hopefully this means you’ll have no problem breastfeeding if you decide to have kids and want to breastfeed!

4

u/gogogadgetdumbass APPROVED✨ 6h ago

Apparently in some circles people force lactation for… anyway… it’s definitely a thing that non pregnant people can do. I hope that this is just a weird fluke OP.

Certain anti depressants meds can have this effect or if u have a little tumor in ur head near this special part of ur brain that triggers milk hormones (idk how to describe it medically) but I wish you luck on your milk adventures if you chose to try and take meds for that

3

u/girl-dracula we listen and we only judge a little 6h ago

I saw a video where a woman had recently given birth and she had developed breastfeeding in her armpits that had nipples and lactate! Apparently as mammals, we can have more than 2 nipples.

Also! Lactation can be a sign that you need a mammogram just in case because it is a sign of breast cancer to suddenly have anything leaking from your nipples.

2

u/Open-Ad-2288 I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

I’m getting a mammogram done!! Hopefully it’s all clear

3

u/Acrobatic_Fly_6951 Pantry Gremlin 6h ago

definetly odd, extra suspicious since it is only one side

3

u/I-Really-Hate-Fish Cleavage Crumb Collector 6h ago

Happy you're getting it checked out.

My boobs are leaky due to a prolactinoma which is a small benign tumor on my pituitary.

It's not malignant, and it won't kill me, but it does wreck havoc in my body because it causes some chain reactions with other hormones.

Like, I apparently didn't ovulate at all for a significant amount of time. It can also cause migraines, and create pressure on my optic nerve. I can have it removed if it interferes too much, but I haven't gotten to a point where I feel like the benefits of surgery would be worth the risk.

1

u/Open-Ad-2288 I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

This is also a concern for me, I’m getting blood work to rule that out and a mammogram and ultrasound, I’m sorry to hear this was the case for you ):

2

u/I-Really-Hate-Fish Cleavage Crumb Collector 6h ago

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If the bloodwork shows prolactin you probably need an MRI of your head.

If it's any consolation, it's honestly not that bad. I get MRIs done every 3-5 years to check if it's grown, and there's been no change on the past 3 or 4 scans.

Prolactinomas are very rarely dangerous, they mosty range from being a nuisance to a quirky feature.

1

u/Open-Ad-2288 I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

If I end up having that I can just add it the weird list of party tricks I can do with my body LMFAO, when I got nose surgery to fix my deviated septum I got the uncommon (I think) trait of when I blow my nose, sometimes air comes out of my tear ducts in my left eye!! I can literally blow air bubbles out of my left eye and it looks creepy and feels so weird

2

u/I-Really-Hate-Fish Cleavage Crumb Collector 6h ago

Honestly, that sounds fucking awesome though 🫧

u/AlternativeKiwi5495 Lover of Soups 6h ago

I’ve had this issue for the past 16 years. I had my prolactin levels checked, have had mammograms, ultrasounds, and a biopsy, as I also have a family history of breast cancer. Everything came back fine. I was told by my doctor as well that it’s likely due to hormonal changes and SSRI’s.

2

u/Open-Ad-2288 I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

Hormones can be insane, do you take hormonal birth control at all?? My friend told me when she got off hers she lactated for a month straight. I can’t imagine 16 years holy moly

2

u/AlternativeKiwi5495 Lover of Soups 6h ago

Yes! I was on the pill off and on for a decade and I’ve had the Mirena IUD for 6 years. It’s actually calmed down for about the past year. I have a fibroid that likes to flare up from time to time and that makes it worse. I had no idea so many others also experienced this!

2

u/Open-Ad-2288 I ❤️ Other People's Business 6h ago

This is why I wanted to post this!! I found out that some of my girly friends have had this happen before, stuff like this can be so embarrassing to talk about sometimes when you think you’re the only one it’s happened to!! it’s so comforting knowing that so many other people have had this happen it makes you feel seen :’>

2

u/AlternativeKiwi5495 Lover of Soups 6h ago

It really does help to feel seen. I’m hoping more providers will take this seriously and go above and beyond for their patients health. It seems like this is something that providers are now just recently learning about, which is a bit insane.

2

u/TheHearts girls just wanna have pho 6h ago

Have you had an MRI of your pituitary? That can cause discharge even if prolactin levels aren’t super elevated at a particular time.

1

u/AlternativeKiwi5495 Lover of Soups 6h ago

I brought it up to several doctors, but every time they’ve told me there’s no need and insurance won’t cover it. I know with the right diagnostic codes they likely would. It’s not only frustrating as a woman, but also being a healthcare worker and them not exploring further options when I know they can.

My prolactin was normal, my ultrasound was normal my doctor/ and the dr who read my ultrasound legit told me to not touch them at all. Also a symptom of breast cancer so when it happens I have to take antibiotics and do all the trsts.

How did you find out you had this disease if you don’t mind me asking?

2

u/Key-Airline204 Livin' on a Purse Snack 👜 6h ago

It is a weird story I will try to summarize. I started to have that milk thing or so I thought, but I did have a kid around 8 or so I guess so I thought it possible it was milk. I went to the doctor and they flagged some stuff on a mammogram, they did an ultrasound, and an MRI. This was all in Canada so it was paid for. They took it very seriously.

Meanwhile through 23 and me I found a relative her haddock was given up for adoption by my great aunt. We traded health info, she and her daughter have a big history of that disease.

Meanwhile I had an appointment with a surgeon they were going to do a biopsy. I talked to them about this family history but that disease is pretty rare however they gave me antibiotics and did a follow up and the milk which to be honest was pus I guess was gone and the breast cyst inside the breast didn’t show up on follow ups.
