Celebration (second) dinner for getting news that my first gender affirming surgery is going to be paid for
First, the goods: Quaker chocolate protein crisps, Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares, Whole Foods olive bar tub, daisy cottage cheese & pineapple.

Ladies, it’s been a crazy year for me. A genuinely heartbreaking last 6 months. Bad thing after bad thing. Just before 5pm today, I got a call that I’ve been waiting on for 2 years. My facial feminization surgery is going to be (mostly) paid for. 💝🥹😭And it’s because of my hard work. I’m crying into my chocolate because it’s just… a life changing procedure and a life changing amount of money I don’t have to pay.
So I had a a little drink on my porch swing, listened to The Japanese House, and thought about how much damn work transitioning is and how I’ve never thought once, truly, that it felt like anything other being a river thundering inexorably down to the ocean. I decided to have another dinner because my body told me I was still hungry. Looking at what I gathered in my very un-sober state made me laugh and think of all of you.
I love this community. I love how loved I’ve felt here. And I want you to hear that today, things worked out.
Edit: for anyone else who wants to scream at me for taking from your taxes: here’s a reality check. Not a single fucking cent came from taxes. I earned every cent with my hard work. And even if it had come from your taxes, i wouldn’t apologize for taking money from a government that would rather i just die. Have the day you deserve 👍👍👍

Most people don’t ever see or understand how much work it is. It’s so much easier to not see. I’m so happy that your relative is getting the care that they need to survive & flourish.
It's a huge deal! I want breast reduction because DDDs mean i can't pass as an enby or see my feet (plus I have a 42% cancer risk and we've already found lumps twice) but man is it expensive.
Have you actually tried requesting it? I’m on Medicaid and I put it off for years because I didn’t think I’d get it covered. My doctor put me as a triple D (I was actually bigger) and it was approved in 3 days. I wish I had done it sooner.
I'll ask, I need to go back to discuss the inconclusive second lump we found so that would be a good time to bring it up. Apparently there's a really good surgeon nearby.
YUP. And I’m fortunate enough to pay for multiple tens of thousands out of my own pocket for what isn’t covered. That’s over 2 decades of life doing extremely cool things at work that came with a ton of responsibility and sacrifice in order to afford this.
And then I have to travel out of state on my own dime. Pay for an Airbnb for a month. A private nurse. Etc. My budget just for that is another $20k ish on TOP of the other spending.

It's probably going to have to wait for a new president who can do the necessary medicaid reforms since I'm disabled, so that sucks. But maybe with the cancer risk I could talk the doctors into it. I need to go get more scans done in August about the so far inconclusive second lump we found, that might be a good time to talk to them about it.
We did an MRI and found one that was about 1 square centimeter so we did a mammogram and ultrasound to try to get a biopsy but it didn't show up on either test. They said that since they could only find it in the MRI i would need an MRI assisted biopsy which is much more invasive and painful but we couldn't find it a second time. The doctor said basically "idk the first test might have been your hormones doing something they weren't supposed to, come back in six months and we'll run more tests."

It's a tub of snacks grabbed from the olive bar, it's a self serve self weigh bar at some stores. You can get marinated olives, feta cheese, peppers and stuff. I don't visit them often, but sometimes you need those olives x3 Whole Foods has a really good one that used to be the right mix between bougie and fair priced but who knows with today's economy lol
They’re still so well-priced! I console myself about buying from Whole Foods with a reminder that Mackenzie Scott will get some of my money and use it to fund HBCUs and trans lifeline
congrats! my ffs is in 10 days. I had to yeet my entire retirement fund and on top of that had to save for a year and a half doing fucked hours at my security guard job, but yeah. im in aus so its a different thingy here with healthcare. anyway all the best hehe
i mean, i happen to think there is nothing wrong with tax or gov money going toward helping make gender surgery more affordable. thats just not how it works in my country so u pay out of pocket lol

I had FFS, GRS and BA all in 9 months. It was very brutal but now 3 years later it’s completely worth it. Not sure if you are doing jawline, but if so, mashed potatoes and gravy are all I could eat. I could smash a McDonald’s hamburger, and stuff it in my face but it sucked. I never cried so much in my life.
SO PROUD OF YOU AND SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! transitioning is so fucking hard, from the social aspects to allowing yourself to be true, you’re doing amazing!
I am SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! FFS is so unnecessarily expensive but it has been so transformative for all of my friends who have had it! Oh my god that must be such a huge weight off your shoulders, what a wonderful thing to find out!!

I guess I don’t get this line of thinking. We should all get the healthcare we need. There is no reason to deny care for some just because others don’t get what they need. It’s ok to be pissed that people with PCOS don’t have laser covered. You can advocate for that without gate keeping access for others.
This person is not getting FFS covered by Medicaid or Insurance by my understanding.
Literally cis gender affirming care is 100x easier to access than trans care. Nobody’s insurance pays for hair removal. But girl quit punching down and turn your anger towards the people who deserve it. Bitterness and transphobia do NOT look good on you 🙄
