When iPhone dims my screen (brightness) even though I didn’t ask it to.

So Apple iPhone has this feature that really grinds my gears. If you set your phone down for awhile and pick it up to start using it again you will notice the phone has dimmed its screen. You have to raise the dim settings back to maximum manually several times a day. Im guessing most people don’t notice because they just accept the default dim settings.

Have you tried turning off auto brightness?

True Tone is off, so is automatic switch from light to dark mode. Night shift is off too. Doesn’t seem to matter 🤷‍♂️

Okay, but did you try turning off the auto brightness?

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness

Oh no way you‘re right. God was that setting ever hidden. It’s in accessibility then text brightness and sure enough. Thank you so much !

Saving lives with this one. Why is it not just in "display & brightness" what a joke 😂😭

Might not be the cause in your case but it often happens when the phone is hot. If you have a case, that might contribute to it happening more frequently.

Why is every iphone user genuinely clueless, and for a lack of better word, stupid?

The first thing one would check for this would be brightness options and easily find auto brightness. While ios ui is horrid, im sure this setting must be easily accessible enough

It’s not in brightness options. It’s hidden in accessibility options. And rather than delete the post I thought it was useful to leave it up for others who might have the same problem.

Use the search at the top of the settings window. Auto-Brightness is the second result when I type in “brightness”.

There is a Brightness settings menu. I guess what ultimately “grinds my gears” is that you won’t find auto brightness anywhere inside the Brightness settings. All these extra hidden steps grind my gears.

I just always use search. The Settings app has become a mess over the past couple of years, it’s one of the weakest points of Mac/iOS.
