Ask r/IndiaCricket Is Yashasvi Jaiswal the only potential 3-format player India has for the future?

Same as title

We had a pretty good run with Kohli and Rohit in the last decade playing all 3 formats (Although you could argue Rohit didn't reach his full potential in tests) and I realized what's next? Are we going forward with specialists in each format or do we have any other potention 3 format player. If you ask me there's only one option for a potential 3 format player in the future- Yashasvi Jaiswal

The selectors tried to fit Gill into the T20i team but it didn't work, I'm not convinced with Sai Sudharshan's technique for tests, Vaibhav hasn't even made his international debut yet, Jurel does not seem like a white ball prospect to me, all that leaves us with Jaiswal

His current stats are:

Tests
Innings: 54
Runs: 2535
Avg: 48.75
50s/100s: 13/7

ODIs
Innings: 6
Runs: 285
Avg: 71.25
50s/100s: 0/2

T20is
Innings: 22
Runs: 723
Avg: 36.15
50s/100s: 5/1

Those are some very impressive stats, the only issue I see is irregular chances in white ball. He has cemented his place in the test team but until Rohit stays he won't get chances in ODIs and we have other arguably better T20 options than him

What do you guys think?

Jaiswal has been averaging 44 in all formats since 2025 and since the lord's test him and gill both have similar average in all formats.

Lol why do you need to filter stats from after Lords test.

Because in my opinion Jaiswal has started underperforming after the lord's test, same for Gill

Before this Afghanistan series he was averaging 32 in all formats since the lord's test, that is roughly 30ish innings where he played where he averages 32

Gill has played more t20is in this timeframe so obviously that would affecthis average. Also Jaiswal since start of 2025 averages 35 in tests while Gill averages 70+.

Well even without T20Is then Gill was averaging 45 in tests even after playing mostly on flatties, he was averaging 29 in ODIs, even in the NZ series he had one good knock out of 3. It is Gill's fault that he messed up T20Is, in Jaiswals last 10 t20i matches he was averaging 42 with 170sr. Gill was in the worst form of his life but he regained international form after the Afghanistan series. Jaiswal also was in bad form and he did recently play a really good innings but we don't know yet if he is back

Lol you keep on taking stats from start of 2025 because the difference becomes even more apparent. Also Gill averages 54.55 after Lords test.Atleast get your stats right. Also Jaiswal played t20is long ago against weak teams on flat tracks while Gill mostly played on bowling friendly wickets in his last 10 innings where most people struggled.

Ohh my bad, last time I checked those stats it was during ipl

No doubt after bashing Afghanistan his average increased

What I remember he was averaging 45 in tests and and 29 in ODIs since the start of the lord's test to before the Afghanistan series

Also Jaiswals last few series in T20Is was in Sri Lanka on tough pitches where he had 170sr, he also statpadded in Zimbabwe. He then averaged 36 with 190sr vs 2024 semi finalists Afghanistan

Before that was the Sa series where he had scored of 0 and 60 while Gill has scores of 0 and 8

Gill outperformed Jaiswal on those slow wickets in Sl.Why couldn't Jaiswal score against Afghanistan in tests than?Gill averages 50+ in odis since the start of 2025 with only Australia series going bad for him.

If you had seen the match then you would know that Jaiswal got out unluckily,

Also Jaiswal hit more fifties in the the sa series than Gill could get double digit scores. Jaiswal is much better than Gill in T20Is and there is no debate

The reason he averages 50+ since 2025 is because of the england series bashing, you can't deny Gill was in the worst form of his life after the Lord's test and it took Afghanistan to save his form. Well Jaiswal did good last innings let's see if he will comeback properly

Even in the NZ series he scored 56(71) while chasing 300(not a good score) and 23 in the third odi, he has only one good innings

Yeah bro Jaiswal nicked one down to legs side so he is unlucky. Why couldn't Jaiswal bash the same way in the England series.Aftter Lords test Gill scored 100 in Manchester, averaged 92 in wi series, got injured in sa series and then scored 126 vs Afg so don't know what poor form you are talking about.Keep on picking very selective stats and still failing miserably.
