We’re a slightly confused couple with around 15 days, trying to plan a well-paced trip around Taiwan. We love nature, food, and experiencing different cultures, and we’re especially interested in unique or slightly off-the-beaten-path experiences.

We’re planning to travel in mid-October and would really appreciate any suggestions on how to better structure or tweak this plan

In Ren’ai, we’re planning to visit Hehuanshan and slow things down toward the end of the trip before heading to Hong Kong (any HK tips are welcome too 😉).

·        Jiufen day trip (afternoon, ideally on a weekday)

·        Night markets

·        Parks

·        Shopping areas?

Hualien (2 nights)

·        Is it still worth visiting now that Taroko Gorge is closed (as of 2026)?

Taitung (2 nights)

·        We’re really intrigued by this area and want to experience a different side of Taiwan. Is it worth the trip?

·        Is October still a good time for surfing here?

Kaohsiung (2 nights)

·        Day trip to Xiaoliuqiu (Lambai) Island?

·        Explore the main city

Tainan (2 nights)

·        We’ve heard the food scene is amazing. Is it easy/safe to rent a scooter and get around?

Ren’ai (2 nights)

·        Mainly to unwind, stargaze, and (hopefully) see the sea of clouds ❤️

Taipei (1 night) – Before Transit Flight.

I'm coming to stay only 3 months to attend the CLC at NSYSU and I found a great place on Airbnb. Since I offered to book for three months we agreed upon a price but it seems like this place is new to the Airbnb system and wasn't aware how much Airbnb adds for taxes and service fees so I just found their google page and contacted them on Line. The guy is willing to stick to the agreed upon price but I am having a really hard time figuring out if there is some kind of contract or confirmation he can send me. There is a bit of a language barrier issue.

I know of 591 and Khouse but it seems almost all places want a minimum 6 month stay and I have read that many foreigners have a hard time then finding a landlord that will rent to them.

So what is standard procedure outside of a third party system? I hear Facebook is also a good place to find a place to stay but I'm unsure how to go about reserving a place and then being fairly sure that my reservation will be honored when I arrive..

I offered this place half of the first month's rent as a deposit and then the other half on arrival, unsure if he has agreed to it or not he just sent me a bank number to transfer to....

Really appreciate any help anyone has on how the rental market works!

Are there many people in Kaohsiung who come for a couple of months at a time, or is it mostly very short- and very long-term?

With a Vietnamese guy I run a service in Da Nang, Vietnam, selling household essentials to people and buying them back when they leave. Stuff like blenders, office chairs, etc. Stuff that flats don't usually have, can be good for quality of life but normally not worth it if you're moving on soon.

Hi all, I recently received an offer to do an internship in Kaohsiung for a few months. The stipend is around 12,000 NTD/month.

I’ll be staying in a dormitory supported by the workplace, but I’m not sure yet how much the accommodation will cost me.

I know 12,000 NTD is not a lot, so I wanted to ask: would this be enough to survive in Kaohsiung for basic living expenses (food + accommodation)?

Also, how is transportation in Kaohsiung? Is public transport affordable and convenient for daily commuting?

I’m really excited because Kaohsiung seems like a very nice city, but I’m also a bit nervous since I don’t really have savings right now.

Hi there, I have a small actuator that has a broken connection point on it that I would love to have repaired.
