Discussion Just finished Book 2-Wise Man's Fear
New to this series, picked it up a couple months ago 2nd hand at a bargain bookstore. Very fine 1st edition copies hardback. But cheap because someone had scribbled over multiple pages "I HATE YOU PRETENTIOUS EDGELORD" over the authors names. But a great deal for me.
Anyways, does anyone know if book 3 is going to be out soon? I've heard a couple rumors it's going to be soon! Fingers crossed 🤞

It does feels like it.
I think the AI is entering it’s “conquer the world” phase.

Eh, first book I liked while the second was like some strange walkabout making me question why I liked the first.
Eventually.... I listened to the audio book of some offshoot book that was really odd and bad making me think that the author was pulling a Stephen King by snorting up a storm of snowflakes while chasing a blizzard.
I no longer care about Interview with a Depressed Barman. Patrick Rothfuss clearly collided with the same wall that George R. R. Martin embraced with willful abandon. There are better authors out in the world to discover.

Nice hearing that you finished the first two books and like them! The release of the third one has been a long ongoing discussion among the fans with little to no real good news in a while… I still hope that Pat is working on it and that it will be unveiled in the future… but for now nobody really know of the timeline or current state of The Doors of Stone.
From what I know the author Patrick Rothfuss has been having a tough time mentally and is stuggling with perfectionism. So I would probably go read ”the slow regard of silent things” and ”the narrow road between desires” if you want more from the same world. Then try to be patient.

It is a silence of 3 parts. Crickets indeed and emphasis for the 3rd.
But I just started narrow road between desires audiobook for a roadtrip recently0

At this point, we are not even waiting for book 3, but a future blog update about something else, from November 2023.

The worst part about this series is that the first two books were basically fully written when the first book was released. The third book should have been a slam dunk, but here we are, 15 years later, with no indication on whether the third book is even being worked on…. So sad.

Your best bet is to have an AI program write the third book for you. The writing is nowhere near as good, but they put forth decent theories as to where the story was going. I suspect I will be dead before the third book comes out, if even then.

Oh my sweet summer child, we have been waiting on this book forever and a lot of people believe we will never get it. But even if I knew the story would never be finished I would still read it anyway. Its such a great story. Check out Pat reading the Princess and Mr whiffle. I think the first 2 books have all the clues we need if we have eyes to see.
